Subject: Other Programs

Hi everyone! Well, just thought I would post a message to find out what other programs people use in tandem with Vue. I use Vue for my landscapes and Poser for my models but im trying to decide which progam to use for objects. Should I stick with vue? Well, I thought it would be interesting to know what everyone else uses, so post away :).

Myske ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 2:58 AM

I do not own Poser (yet) And the most objects I make in vue and shapemagic. And a bit modelling with MetasquoiaLE. regards Myske

Well, I've got alot of programs that I use with Vue, but if there were 3 that I absolutely could not do without, they would be Rhino, Painter and UV Mapper. I suppose Poser, too, but I could live without it.

YL ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 4:30 AM

spatch, amorphium and sometimes uvmapper , have poser 3 (free) but i prefer to model objects Yves

hein ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 8:41 AM

Vue,Poser,PsP and whatever else comes in handy, don't believe in "Swiss Army Knife" type of programs.

Jilly ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 10:33 AM

I use Poser 4, and Photoshop 6, mainly.

jstro ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 12:05 PM

I use Poser for figures and partial scenes, Wings3D for modeling, UVMapper if I decide to texture map something, PaintShop Pro to paint the map and for postwork. You should really check out Wings3D to model your objects. It works great in tandem with Vue. jon

heyas; you can get a bunch of nice modelling apps for free. anim8or is one a lot of people use. there's blender. amapi had a free version... so did strata, didn't they? i use rhino and lightwave now, but i wouldnt recommend those for a beginner. kinda pricey, there. i used to use ray dream. which is defunct. i guess i'm no help. :) but check out 3dlinks for links to any and all free/shareware/commercial apps.

Poser and Anim8or ! I used to work with "SPatch" but I had too many crashes with it... :-(

Jackson ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 4:01 PM

I use Carrara for modelling; Painter & Photoshop for postwork; UV Mapper; Poser 4; gave up on Zbrush. Strata did have a free version; don't know if they still do.

MikeJ ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 4:39 PM

I guress I have to admit that I couldn't do without Poser, too. :P Still learning 3ds max. Something tells me I'm gonna be saying that for a looonnnnggg time. The learning curve on max is just ridiculous. :/

Jackson ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 9:00 PM

Mike, if you're proficient in Rhino, why bother with Max? I know Rhino is a NURBS modeller, but I thought it could do everything?

MikeJ ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 9:15 PM

Yeah, Rhino is awesome, but max does polygon meshes much better, in addition to having all sorts of wild mesh modifiers, such as the Free Form Deformation boxes..and many plugins made for it far too numerable to mention. And of course, it can do NURBS, as well. Plus, it does animations. Actually, it's animation features seem to be the easiest thing about it, and much simpler than, say, Vue.

MikeJ ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 9:17 PM

Oh another cool thing about Max though over Rhino is the way that meshes are modified through "stacks", which is kind of like a layer thing. It's like having an unlimited number of "undo's".

Hmm! Sounds like decent ammount of diversity here! Ive' got a bit of an idea of what to get next :). Thanks for all the replys.

Well, I use Vue and bought Poser a while ago and really lots of things for it, but today I have to say: many of my pictures where better when I did not use Poser. For modelleing I am really nearly dependend on WINGS 3D which is so very easy! It cannot do NURBS (what ever this might be - I never understood it should be - LOL) and it cannot do Boolean thingys but I don't need that because I love to slove problems in wings-style (btw you can even import text). _________________ Additionally I use this Japanese metasequia, also canvas 6 (now for free at the latest/#68 issue of Computer Art mag), corel photopaint, spatch, irfan-view, amapi, and so on and so on, sorry, but I am real software hunter - but normally only free stuff - not to forget the great PlantStudio. ;-) Bernie

Keep cool and fight for the right of others
to have a different opinion than you have!

Didn't see Truespace in there, so I guess I'll put in my two cents. Poser Truespace Polytrans Photopaint -SMT

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

Kattleprod ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 12:58 PM

Truespace 4.3 for modelling. Photoshop 6 for textures. Poser 4 for figure work. Vue for scene creation/rendering.

Varian ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 3:30 PM

PlantStudio www.kurtz-fernhout.com ShapeMagic www.shapemagic.com Paint Shop Pro, Ray Dream Studio, Organica, a whole slew of other stuff. And I use Vue itself for a lot of modeling. :)

boucra ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 3:44 PM

Another cool program is Turbo CAD v8pro for modelling and difficult thinks, Floorplan v6 for house's very easy (IMSI),
Vue for scene/terrain/vegetation, Poser for figure and paint shop for color.

riversedge ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 1:17 AM

I also use Turbocad for modeling and could not get along without Rhino. Also use Paint Shop Pro 7 and less often use Painter6. Looking into Cinema 4D 'Art' at the moment, but Rhino remains my favorite even if the polys are less than others.

Pol ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 4:07 PM

With Vue D'Esprit I use : Animation Master ( most of the time ) Amapi ( sometimes ) Poser 3 ( sometimes ) Blender ( sometimes ) All those work well for me. Cheers Pol
