Ok, what's the deal? I bought M2, which I wasn't all that interested in (but wtf, right?) to get Stephanie, mostly cuz I wanted a f figure that wouldn't cross-talk w/ my favorite Vic characters. I posted exactly that question here the other day after searching through endless Steph threads and not finding where that issue had been addressed. I was assured by someone who sounded very authoritative (who shall remain nameless, lol!) that no, the cross-talk thing wouldn't happen between Steph and Vic. Well, horse hockey, is all I can say. Looks like Vic doesn't affect Steph, but Steph cross-talks like crazy w/ Vic. Bummer, dudes. So, any thoughts, oh wise ones? Has anybody else run into this? I'm using a Mac; maybe that's got somethin to do w/ it.

Just a bit frustrated huh? Load And use Spteph first. Add Vicki last since she won't affect Steph..

Is that Vicky 1 or 2. I just tried the "muscular" morph with Steph and Vicky 1 on a PC and had no cross-talk. smerc

orphea ( ) posted Sun, 17 March 2002 at 4:06 PM

Hi Phoenix! Did that; same issue. Steph's body morphs (and other partial morphs in common with V2, breasts, etc) still wreak havoc w/ V2. smerc--V2.

I said they should have made it "_a" instead of " a". I just took it as true from those who told me, that what DAZ did would limit the problem. See URL. I did not test it myself. I do not use full boat figures for anything but a factory, so they are always solo. I have seen that "_#" added to the end of a channel name actually changes the name. (# being an allowed alpha numberic). This stops cross-talk - and mine is with rotation channels, not morphs. But it still might not be totally secure, since poses will work on a renamed figure. Maybe all of the figures have to have altered names. Poser seems to let figures or poses with just the base names control those with SPACE # or _# added to make them unique, but not the reverse. I guess everyone tested Vic on Steph and not v.v. Welcome to the cutting edge. You may have added another brick to the wall.

Jaager ( ) posted Sun, 17 March 2002 at 4:52 PM

Now that I think about it, if SPACE # was working, it should have protected Vic from Steph and not v.v. Maybe this is why Poser 5 is hanging fire? There are some strange rules about interactions going on here.

Dudes, Go to www.rbtwhiz.com and get Millennium Null. Use it and you will not get any crosstalk. I was able to use Victoria 2, Mike 2, and Stephiane in the same scene with no problems when I use Millennium Null.

You could try the tutorial I put together, based on information provided by Jagger and Gaz. Gaz walked me through this online.

I use Robert's Millenium Null all the time and it works nicely. :o)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sun, 17 March 2002 at 10:11 PM

Bloodsong came up with an even easier and simpler solution to the whole problem. Simply load a prop with a Body, that has no part names in common with your characters. She uses the DAZ book. Load this first, than add your characters. This is so simple that it is elegant.

neurocyber ( ) posted Mon, 18 March 2002 at 12:05 AM

Is the millenium null the same as the one on Nerds web site? I've tried to find a "Millenium null" at www.rbtwhiz.com on three separate times with no luck.

gryffnn ( ) posted Mon, 18 March 2002 at 6:55 AM

Hauksdottir, does that work just for that session, or when you reopen the scene after a save? I'll have to try it, if I can find the book (old freebie?) or something like it.

Kiera ( ) posted Mon, 18 March 2002 at 7:00 AM

No, crosstalk reppears after you save. God I wish CL would put out a patch for this pain in the butt problem.

3-DArena ( ) posted Mon, 18 March 2002 at 9:10 AM

DAZ has their tech tip this month on crosstalk. It's very informative and there is even a link to a free null figure to prevent this in the future.

orphea ( ) posted Mon, 18 March 2002 at 11:25 AM

Ok, that's all good--but my whole reason for getting Steph was to avoid this problem, so I wouldn't have to deal with nulls and books and whatever. Thanks, Jaager, for readressing this... I guess I'll try the prop thingy or the null thingy, but it's just more ram-suck per PZ3. Argh.

Jaager ( ) posted Mon, 18 March 2002 at 12:34 PM

This is about tring to find a fire-and-forget solution to this problem. Orphea was hoping to avoid it by getting an immune figure, and he discovered a hole in DAZ's attempt to fix it. One that the rest of us missed. It is not a matter of not knowing about the Null Loader. If the Null Loader is all the solution that you need, then you have your fix. Some of us are going to continue hacking at this thing to see if there are other ways to get there. It is also a way of discovering other possibilities in Poser. I think Bloodsong's discovery may be a version of the Null Loader. The trick is to test it on three or four figures at once and see if two controls three, three controls four, ... If one prop at the beginning blocks it all, then it is something new. If it only protects two from one, then it is the Null, and a null that has weight and is not really null.

ronknights ( ) posted Mon, 18 March 2002 at 12:41 PM

And who wants a bunch of books in the picture, anyway?

Jaager ( ) posted Mon, 18 March 2002 at 1:39 PM

ron: denegrating Bloodsong's contribution is not appropriate. The prop used was just an example and not the point at all. It warrents a full test, but I suspect that she has just found the path that Nerd and Rob Whiz discovered a good while ago.

ronknights ( ) posted Mon, 18 March 2002 at 1:53 PM

Jaager, I didn't denigrate anyone's contribution. It is a very good question. I surely don't want a bunch of books or un-wanted props in my pictures.

Jaager ( ) posted Mon, 18 March 2002 at 2:18 PM

Select the prop, hit CNTRL + I and uncheck visible.

By the way, in case you didn't notice I wrote up a tutorial based on info provided by you and GAZ. That should indicate some positive intent. I still don't want my scene cluttered with unwanted stuff. Your solution is better for me.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Mon, 18 March 2002 at 10:13 PM

Jaager, I believe that Bloodsong was loading multiple figures and not just two after the book. Unfortunately, she also discovered that the problem comes back when you save and reload the pz3. Wasn't there somebody trying to save the information contained in a pz3 as something else? Some of our greatest advancements come from multiple minds butting their heads on the same problem. I'm not sure that she is going down the same road or a related byway, but at least she is moving on it. If you and Nerd and Rbtwhiz can all hit it again with her the problem might fall to the combined assault. (It works on giant robots, why not on PITAs?) Carolly
