I downloaded this utility and unzipped it and all it contained was some text (QuickRotator.py) no instructions. It looks as though it might be a piece of coding for Poser but I've no idea what to do with it! Has anyone else tried this? Have I got the whole file, if so what do I do with it? I've sent an e-mail to pcbos but thought I might get a quicker response here! Baz

It's a Python script which "should" work with PoserProPak. Unfortunately Python in the Mac Poser is a COMPLETE mess, and fails to perform hardly any non-trivial script/task at all, which makes PC Python scripts virtually useless on Mac. This is not the fault of the script creator - so don't blame them, there's nothing they could do about it until CL finally bothers to repair PPP.

I take immense pains to deliver equal quality to both PC and Mac alike, by the way. Pro Pack for Mac is a bit painful, but I put some forceful pathPatcher- clausules in the code. Where have you tested it - any OS 8/9? I can't speak for OS-X but I have been unable to get it working for exactly the same reasons that I discovered earlier. I once wasted 4 weeks trying to get Dan's scripts to run on Mac before I finally gave up. It fails for two reasons: - It won't run anything using Tkinter, and that means it won't run anything with a user interface - Poser itself ignores some of its own commands, like hiding dials In other words - it just sucks, period, dot. I have tried every PPP version that has been officially available, including all SR1-3 patches, each in every combination with every OS8-9 version that I keep - and it just fails, fails, fails. Even if one Tkinter call occasionally works (unlikely enough, but sometimes it attempts to give you some false hope :-) you can be sure that it won't run a second time - even after a "restart Python" marathon subsequent uses will crash PPP. The only workaround is to quit Poser for every single script run. Now that's what they call "Pro" these days, eh!? Since I fell from grace with Poser's company some time ago (and can't try the beta versions any longer), there is (sadly) nothing I can offer, other than this: If you plan to buy the Mac PPP mainly for Python scripts, you might as well set your banknotes on fire.

Hi Martin, me old buddy I KNOW youre not that fond of Pro Pack, but youre wrong, my dear Martin, believe me. There was a time I agreed with you, but not anymore, not since SP3 for the Pro Pack has come out. We had quite a correspondence about this subject, but let me tell you this: if you have Poser 4.03 (latest update) AND latest update for Pro Pack (SP3, I believe), things will work- Mac and PC! I have made some dirty hacks into the system to make it behave, admittedly- but they work: and BETTER even, in certain aspects, than they run under PC. QuickDraw routines seem to be much nicer to Poser than WMManager stuff in Windows. My Creators, for instance, WILL run faultlessly under almost any circumstance- when you run them straight from the Poser menu, and dont use the Mainbutton foolery. This is the one and only weak point of Python implementation for the Mac, which you can nullify by using this route. What my programs do, is that they take Poser by the scruff of its neck, and force it (! I put some mighty powerful code here!) to face the right way again. Of course you can run them from mainbuttons, but be prepared for some nonsense on the screen from time to time; but when this happens, just close the Python buttons, run one of my programs straight from the menu, and voila- Poser is suddenly back to normal again. Tested: 8.6,9.2,10.01 Anyway, my programs totally take over Poser, and work much faster than Poser. There is no need to go back to Poser till you finished, since you can render all the while, so you can clearly see what youre doing- plus you can save what you are doing, and/or save the starting point, so its just sheer luxury- INPOSSIBLE without PPP. No, PPP is about the best thing since sliced bread, especially, or better: SINCE PPP update 3 has come out. I work with standard Poser from time to time, and have grown to dislike it more and more. Its large, not-very-clever bums for bumps, its slow screen redrawals, and lastly it not having Python abilities, make it just not professional enough. PPP is flexible, and worth a second look- you can take my word for it. Personally, I wouldnt like to be without: it works faster. A LOT faster. Ever yours, Paul C. I'm happy to hear that it works for you, but all I can say is that it doesn't work for me. Of course I have installed SR3 as soon as it came out (both the self-cracking and the replacement, by the way - now that was fun :-) and I have installed it both over my existing PPP and then over a fresh copy. What shall I say: - it still refuses to handle some of Poser's own commands - it still refuses to import most .obj morphs that worked fine with P4 - it still refuses to run TKinter based scripts without crashing If it works on your machine - fine - never give it away. It simply. doesn't. on. mine. and. it. doesn't. on. all. of. my. users'. machines. that. contacted. me. in. order. to. make. them run. What shall I say? It's a fact. I would love to say it isn't, but it is. Mark All Read... :-)

PS: Paul, do you remember our little debate over IE a long time ago? IE works perfectly fine on all of my Macs without flaws, but Netscape doesn't - it's a nightmare. Looks like both of our Macs are completely incompatible - my one runs IE and P4, but doesn't NN and PPP - your one is the other way round... :-) :-) :-)

Dear Martin, I tested on MANY different computers. I would never release anything that wouldnt work, just like you and your own wonderful programs. Please dear Martin, try out my programs. If they dont work for you, give them back, they wont cost you a penny. Tryout my QuickRotator for Mac first, its gratis http://www.pcbos.nl/Poser_Website/Poser_Web.html Believe me, PPP works update Poser to 4.0.3, then update to Pro Pack SP3. THEN run my programs- preferably straight from the Poser menu, giving mainbuttons a miss the first time- after having read "Remarks.html", which you can also find in the Mac manual at the above place, and which you also get, including a full manual, with my programs at DAZ. Brother mine, we seldom have disagreed in the past, so this is fun... Give it a serious try, OK? By the way: the Environment Creators will also be released in a German Version- and Poser German is a TRUE nightmare, you wouldnt believe how badly some of the tcls are written there; which simply means I will have to write a few of my own, what? OK, OK,... I admit that I was (partially) wrong in Paul's case - my apologizes, especially to him. Although I do use a P4/4.0.3->PPP/SR3 already, creating a new clean install seemed to solve the problems with QuickRotator. It opened several times and worked fine. Again: Sorry for this, and if you already have PPP then go straight to Paul's site and download/buy his stuff...!!! :-) However, and now there's a big HOWEVER... The reason why it failed the first time must have been caused by a damaged Python in my old install. From my previous experience, Poser's Python seems to be highly "self destructive", meaning that some things initially work, and then suddenly stop doing so. I first tried to explain this with memory problems, but it seems more likely now that the various Python parts are highly unstable and tend to corrupt. Frankly, I'm not used to re-install software every few weeks only to keep it running - I wouldn't accept this with any other program, so why should I accept it for PPP. Then - it is only Paul's QuickRotator script that worked with the latest re-install, everything else (by other people) shows exactly the same failure that I mentioned above. Paul's dialog box is (relatively) simple, and even some of Dan's scripts/boxes do work as well - but only 2-3 of them. The other ones crash like on day 1. All of the other problems are also still there - the .obj import deaster, and if you tell Poser by script to hide a dial it still just ignores this. etc. pp. So, I frankly admit that I was wrong in Paul's case, but I have nothing to correct in my opinion about the quality of PPP itself.
