Had an email from RightHemisphere , they released version 2 build 1088 which does solve the file-save-browser problem. Haven't tried anything else but atleast that part works fine

Thanks hein. I take it it's on their website? I haven't gotten any emails, but my email address has changed since the last time I contacted them.

Yup, just download the demo and enter the serial etc when asked.

MikeJ ( ) posted Thu, 28 March 2002 at 3:56 PM

There is no update package, just another full demo download? Sorry for asking, but I'm in the middle of many things right now and don't have the time to check, plus I have to dig out all my reg. info which is on a CD somewhere, no longer on my HD. The previous 3D Exploration updtae packages only reqired that you d/l the update, and all the reg. info was transferred automatically. No need to reply... I'll check into it when I get a chance. Good to hear that it works though. :)

Feel free to ignore the reply :)) Yes it's the full 12Mb download, even tho the d/l page says 8.7 Mb.

MikeJ ( ) posted Thu, 28 March 2002 at 5:34 PM

OK, reply summarily ignored. ;)

Well, I downloaded it and installed it right over my installation, and didn't have to re-enter any information, so that was good. Yes, the Open and Save features work now. Unfortunately, I can't apply any textures. In the Maps box, even after browsing to and selecting an image file, the "Apply" button refuses to highlight, and it is not possible to apply a texture.

hein ( ) posted Fri, 29 March 2002 at 6:45 AM

Hmm works fine here now, some textures take a while but they all work.

MikeJ ( ) posted Fri, 29 March 2002 at 9:41 AM

Interesting. I found out what it was. The object in question has to have UV mapping on it, or a texture can't be applied. But if an object has UV mapping, it's no problem. Although the texture is applied as I hit the Open button, and the Apply button never even lights up. Strange, but workable, since 99% of 3D objects that aren't .dxf have some sort of UV mapping.

Just a quick question. What is the advantages of Deep Explorer? Just curious. I've been to the web site, and can't quite figure it out. Thanks.

Jcleaver ( ) posted Fri, 29 March 2002 at 10:21 AM

Also, what is the difference with 3D Exploration? They are both from Right Hemisphere. There is a $50.00 price difference from what I can see. Am I right that Deep Exploration is a replacement?

MikeJ ( ) posted Fri, 29 March 2002 at 11:00 AM

3D Exploration was originally created by a Russian guy named I think Vladamir who owned X Dimension Software. As far as I know, 3D Exploration was their only product. Around Summer of last year, X Dimension sold 3D Exploration to Right Hemisphere. RH updated it a few times, and got as far as version 1.81. About a two months or so ago they released Deep Exploration, which is the continuation of the 3D Exploration line, although it is much better in many respects. It is very much faster at redrawing than 3D Exploration ever was. 3D Exploration was originally sold for $50.00, and part of the "Enterprise" (registered) license deal was that people wpuld get lifetime free upgrades. Good deal. :) But when RH bought it, they cancelled that policy, ut told us previously regitered customers that we would get one major upgrade for free. That was what you see now, Deep Exploration. The other thing they did was they quadrupled the price. That's right...even before 3D Exploration became Deep Exploration, the cost of a license had quadrupled with the moment RH took over ownership; One day you were buying it for 50 bucks from X Dimension, and the next day it was 200 from RH! I wasn't aware that RH is still selling 3D Exploration though.

MikeJ ( ) posted Fri, 29 March 2002 at 11:09 AM

Whoah! I just went to their site. Deep Exploration is actually $249.00..... I think that's way too high. Granted, it has some feauturs better than the original 3D Exploration, but even before RH's updates to it, it was a very good program. I still have the older version installed, and it's file translation is every bit as good as the new one. Deep Explortion has better rendering tools, and better control over the lighting, but who's gonna use it to render anyway? Especially when we have programs such as Vue. You can't even load more than one object at a time! IMO, $250.00 is way too of a price high to ask for it.

TimRiley ( ) posted Fri, 29 March 2002 at 1:26 PM

If you originally registered 3D Exploration with X Dimension Software, you can upgrade to Deep Exploration for free. Just email them your registration key, and they'll send you an unlock code. A big difference from v1.81 - it reads Rhino 2 files now (without blowing up).

MikeJ ( ) posted Fri, 29 March 2002 at 1:40 PM

Hi Tim, Yeah, that's what I did, and Hein here, too. I think Hein had 3D Exploration for a long time before X Dimension sold it. Some of us just got lucky and bought the license just in time. Guitta, another regular here, had made a deal with the original owners to let us have 3D Exploration at a discounted price....just for those of us on the Vue d'Esprit email group on Yahoo. So I bought mine after a little while, and it was very shortly after that RH bought it, but I was still in time to get the upgrade offer. :) They didn't want to do it at first, I don't think, but they got alot of pressure from a few of us...
