Hi there S

Opps - pressed enter too fast.... Anyway - Hi, Me again.. I'm getting some hang at modeling withint Rhino now, and even managing to learn some tricks to doing bended surfaces... a long way to go I have - however, now I know I need to look at getting UVmapping and bump maps and specmaps. However, I have no cool about these, or how to make them. I looked at 3d Painter, and wow that was painful (on a p233 with 96 megs of ram it was soooooooooooo slow) so I'm using the little program called UVmapper. Now this is where I'm confused... UVMapper makes the BMP that you draw on so small... is this supposed to happen? Also - has anyone got any UVmapped textures they can show me - or some tutorials on how to do UVmapping. I haven't much looked at this aspect yet - and I'm sure that if I did I could get some good stuff out (one hopes) tracy-ann

Save the UV Map as a texture and load it into a photo image program, like Photoshop or Photopaint. It's pretty easy to make a texture. Just be prepared to tweak for a while as the texture map has to stretch around the model and what looked like a straight line in the photo editor might warp when wrapped. I'm getting Rhino soon. Can I count on you to help with that? :-)

I wondered S I normally only work with the uv maps for poser people and stuff so don't know really about the other and iI have only done it personally like once . it might be that you need to do it in a different for ie planar etc .. not sure if that helped at all but welcome back

Thanks ghost :)) Crecent - yeah sure, I have been learning lots on making stuff with Rhino - most of it is still WAY new for me. Rhino was the best thing dad bought me, because all in all without it I couldn't model anything :)) I looked at 3dmax at a friends house, and sorry to say it doesn't work as well in NURBS as Rhino does. For 700 (or less, since I am a student) Rhino is a wonderful product. Bryce of course appears to be one of the best rendering programs also (epseically for price) I have never used it for animation (hell still learning texturing) but since I don't think I ever will do animation - I wouldn't need anything as powerful as 3dmax... Anyway - looking at your reply - yeah I figured that is what I would do but what about the size? Like I mean - I create a 1024x768 UVmap (which should be WAY big enough for a 800x600 rendering) and when I goto do the UVmapper stuff I get a small 600x200 picture (or something like that) Why isn't it in 1024x768?? Tracy.

TracyAnn I have the Rhino1.1 command reference sheet if you want it. It's a 600+ page .pdf file. Email me or something. Late!

TracyAnn ( ) posted Sun, 23 January 2000 at 10:32 PM

A reference sheet which is.... 600+ pages!! I think someone forgot what the name "reference" usually means. Like - we used to call something 300+ pages a manual :) Then Microsoft came along and we had to call anything 30+ pages a manual... now we call 600+ pages reference :)) Hope they didn't have "quick" next to that also :)) Did you get that from the Rhino homepage? I'm sure around there somewhere is the reference PDF... if not - I would be interested, since it would help explain stuff that right now I'm using the Rhino PDF manual to explan... tracy-ann

I got it free from their ftp as a registered user after I emailed them about it. I have to figure out how to send the .pdf to you it's 5+MB and my email only supports 1MB attachments. Any ideas as far as an ftp or site to upload to?

Um - no not yet it hasn't ... but I started a new job today so I haven't had much of a chance to play around... being a working girl again and all :)) I would love to get into Homepage and 3d graphic type job, that would be sooo extra cool :)) But, can't expect wonders. tracy-ann

If you zip it down, what size is it? If necessary, I can clear an area for FTP. I'd be glad to make the file available for a time for others to download it.

Zipped 5 megs , opened 5 megs. It's taken care of thanks Crescent.
