Good writing, nice navigation - and, don't shoot me for this, lousy page layout. You leave approximately 30% of the screenspace wasted around the microscopic text, just to imitate a printed page (?) . Please take this as constructive criticism - and if you don't hate me already, here's THE link to www usability : www.useit.com Cheers.

Thanks :) Nah - I know what you mean. The issue is making sure it works for small monitors (the 800x600 crowd). For those of us on big resolutions (I run 1600x1200 myself) there is wastd space. We might go to a more liquid layour but I am not a big fan of that... impossible to predict the resulting page format. Thanks anyway and keep chekcing in, it might change ina while.

Gee, I didn't really have an acceptance speech ready, but here goes: ---------------------------- "First, I'm honored to have my product selected as the first-ever hyper-3d.com review. I'd like to thank all the people out there that made this moment possible. I'd like to thank my parents, of course, and the community for making this so special. Thank you, thank you all." ----------------------------- The article mentions some of the issues with the directory structure within the Poser figure files, such as the fact that they commonly contain the : character. However, Poser files can be referenced 3 ways: 1) ":Runtime:Textures:test.jpg" --this is "Runtime-relative", and seems to mirror the Macintosh's file system (using : instead of ). This is Poser's default method of storing the folder names and allows the figure files to moved from PC to PC (or to a Mac). 2) "c:Program FilesCurious LabsPoserRuntimeTexturestest.jpg" --this is "absolute"- the file is "fixed" in that location on the hard drive. This is caused by improper editting of the figure file (for example, from a 'faulty' MAT Pose editting program). 3) "test.jpg" --this is "sort-of-Runtime-relative"- Poser will search through every folder beneath RuntimeTextures and use the first file with that name (whether it matches the figure or not). --John

Yup, it's true :) We have a preference for the ":" format, but the others do work. 2 breaks easy and 3 is just SLOW :)

I often use notepad to do quick edits in Poser files, rather than load a program. I find it helpful to use a copy filename to clipboard utility or copy a path from explorer. That means, I use the absolute references. I use Windows exclusively so Mac compatibility isn't a problem and I usually don't move things around. Maybe it's a quirk, but I never liked the : notation. Just my personal preference. JHoagland, you're too good a programmer to be continually sniping at other people's work. The fact thet the 'faulty' MAT Pose editting program allows absolute references as a valid option (off by default) is a feature, not a fault. One can choose to use it or not. Your work should stand on its own merits, without continually bad mouthing the competition. At least confine it to your product literature by presenting an honest comparison of features. I don't mean this to be negative, it's just that this is at least the 3rd or 4th time you've used the forum to do this.

I sort of agree... but then again I am looking at all this as a consumer, not as a developer (though I am one). While the absolute file notation is fine for someone to use on their own hard drive - it is absolutely flawed when used by a vendor who will be distributing their work. It basically guarentees that the file references will be broken. Now in my mind this is the responsability of the vendor, not whoever writes the utilities those vendors use but I think the documentation of any utility should make it's quirks/limitations clear.

I agree completely thet absolute isn't appropriate for a product. As an option in a utility, I like the choice. If CL ever goes to Linux, they'll have to come up with a way to accomodate / as well as : and .

Actually, I didn't mean to be "sniping" at other people, but at myself. When I first made my MAT Pose Applier (and Object Organizer) program, I used "absolute" path names, thinking that it was "easier" this way. In fact, I never did mention any MAT Pose Editor specifically by name. However, if I came across as "sniping" the competition, then I apologize. --John

John, glad to hear it. Since some of your past posts were in that vein, I assumed this was more of the same. Glad that's over. Congrats on the review, quite an honor.
