Slows the site? harrassing people? harrassing? Someone needs a popsicle... Lol I dont mean to sound rude, I just dont see how they're hurting anyone... all the way up there top of the screen, out of the way, I think they serve a great purpose and im not even a merch here. I know i make use out of em! dont see them causin any harm... at least they arent pop ups! now THAT is harrassment... lmao
I'm on dial up and it doesn't slow the pages down all that much. Having to scroll is annoying? Hardly a reasonable complaint, you have to scroll no matter what.
I like seeing the new stuff without having to sift through the marketplace.
And how on earth can a banner be considered "agressive"?

there is one advertisement banner in that shot, at the very top of the screen. The Poser Forum banner is a visual set of links. There's also the Renderosity banner, which conveys the identity of the site in one image, which is a requirement for any established company. If yer gonna complain about advertising, try running a site as large as this without trying to bring a little bit of revenue from advertisements, and without any visual representation of the site itself. Most sites on the net have banner ads on top, and square ads scrolling all the way down the sides of their pages, along with a pop-p or two for good measure, just to piss you off, nevermind the retarded animating logos placed all over the place. If I remember correctly, the banner ads at top can only be something like 15kb large or something, though i could be wrong, so that doesn't exactly take long to download, even on dial up (if yer still on a 28.8 modem, its time for an upgrade). The best solution would be to find a site just like renderosity, without any banners or ads, just etxt. If you find one as filled with useful content as Rosity, let us all know so we can all leave for good.
Slynky, I'm not sure if your comment is directed at me or not. I'm talking "the big picture" here. An entire screen is wasted with stuff that has nothing to do with the business of the page. The banner itself is very small in comparison. Now, let's not get too huffy about advertising. We do have the Marketplace where many of us go to purchase hot Poser items.
Take a look at Renderosity. I mean a REAL long look at ALL it has. The amount and vastness of the forums The SHEER size of the galleries, which are not links to your pics that are on your own webpage, they are hosted here by Renderosity. The freestuff section - have you seen just how much stuff is actually in there? Tutorials, chat rooms, contests, links to hundreds of other 3D websites..... All this...for...free. All you gotta do is ignore a little banner, not even the annoying pop-up kind. There are no other sites that offer as much as all of this for free at this size. I, myself, don't even know of a PAY site that has all this in the size that Renderosity has. ...just a thought. AgentSmith

Guess what it would be a member had never purchased anything, ever? Free. None of their money would have gone to keep this giant site up and runnning. It would have cost them nothing. That, and they wouldn't have any of those products they bought either... BUT...let me get this perfectly clear....you are complaining because when the forums come up...you have to execute a single click of your mouse to get to the "real meat"? That's the complaint, right? Just wanna make sure, is all. AgentSmith

I don't know what you've got going, but I don't get a damned thing if I click once, anywhere near where your arrows indicate. It is a wasted page, plain and simple. I'm not sure why this contrast is so hard to grasp. Read a good book or tutorial on web design. One fundamental: You should always get to the "meat" of your web page within the first "fold," which means basically before you have to scroll up the screen. If you don't believe me, hunt down a few such primers or tutorials.
It is the scroll bar; if you place the cursor right where my cursor is in my pic and (regular)left click, the page will instantly skip down (to the second "fold"). This is a lot faster than using the middle wheel, or grabbing the actual scroll bar and dragging it down, less control, but it is a short way to your meat. IF that is what you are doing, why it doesn't work on your computer, I don't know. I've now read many books on web design. And, yes I have ran across passages that talk about the first fold, and keeping the visitors interest, etc. But, Forums are there to inform and communicate. They don't really need to worry about capturing someone's imagination and entertainment funny bone from fold one. Anyone who frequents the forums knows what they are for, and are not really worried about what is contained in the first part of the page. They usually have a problem, and as Moderators, we are there to try and answer their questions. That "first fold fundamental" speaks along the same rule that action in a screenplay/movie HAS to begin within the first 15 minutes or you have lost your audience. It's B.S. by the way. If you have a good screenplay or a good website, the first click, just doesn't really matter. It's too bad I can't give you a solution to your complaint. The only thing I can think of is using voice-activated software to scroll for you, don't laugh, I have seen people use it. AgentSmith

So we go to the scrollbar, but don't touch it. Instead we click on the area below the scrollbar. Now you see why I had problems with this idea.. Of course it wasn't described in the original message. The "first fold" fundamental is far from BS. I personally practice it myself, and know many others (even some Renderosity members) who share the same attitude. There is also a division between those who fancy themselves wonderful web-psite designers, and those who look at all the bells and whistles as "so much flash without substance." Thank God Renderosity doesn't go that far.
Awww, common Ron. Donchathink you're nitpicking about the scrollbar issue? It was perfectly clear to me from looking at the image that the pointer was in the area below the scrollbar. I may still belong in the Beginner's gallery (despite your nice - and funny - comments to the contrary), but even I can see that.
Choose one. Free content with ads, or pay content with no ads. Renderosity needs to pay their bills somehow... or would you prefer them out of business? Personally, I can handle devoting banner space to advertisers who pay to keep one of my favorite sites around and their content free. Anyone who can't scroll down a page, in my opinion, has laziness issues. For what it's worth, I get cranky when people gripe about stuff like this. So like, Grrr-hey grump grump grumble.
i'm just glad that renderosity hasn't implimented any nasty popup or popbehind windows. i detest those things and avoid sites that use them at all costs. Banners are easy to get rid of. just DONT LET YOUR BROWSER AUTOMATICALY LOAD IMAGES. load the images after you are viewing a page and only load those you want to see.
Hey hey! Look what came to me in an e-mail this morning! Hehehe, gotta love those Dummies Daily e-mail tips. "Internet Explorer users, scrolling up and down a Web page doesn't have to involve a mouse at all. In addition to the Page Down and Page Up keys that catapult you through the page in a somewhat jerky fashion, you can also press the Spacebar to scroll smoothly down the page or Shift+Spacebar to sail smoothly upward." I just had to share ;) ~j~

Yeah, most of it's junk, but I've run across some real gems too. I think that's what keeps me interested. I've learned alot about Photoshop with those tip a day things. At times it's not quite so overwhelming, especially when you've got more than a few software programs you're working at learning.

Hi, I propose a common complaint to Renerosity members & Adms. about suppressing the the banners. I request a special page dedicated to the banners-fans. It slows the site and it's harrassing people. More than this, banners ban now ! Some are obviously aggressive. This is laxism. This is not aceptable. And no, I won't quit because of that. THEY have to be quiet. AthurH
