Subject: Beheading or Dismembering a Poser model

Is this possible? I can't seem to find a way to "lop" a body part off. For instance, a knight decpitating an Orc. Now if I save it as an Obj file and export it to Bryce, ya, you can do some neat stills, but, you can't export back to Poser if you wish to do this in animation. I like Poser's animation tools way better than Bryce's so this is why I thought it would be a good place to ask here. Also, can you exchange body parts with other models? Lets say for instance you want to take a P4 Male Nude model (and make him heroic in size), lop off his head, discard the head (if possible), save it, then load the DAZ cow. Cut its head off, discard the body. Then load the headless man, Parent the cow head to the neck. Then load a drinking horn model and then parent the horns to the head as a bull. So in essence, I could make a minotaur if you can do all of this. Of course what I just stated could be total bunk. But this is another reason why I ask if you can do this. Little Dragon attached a tail to what appeared to be a Victoria model and the head looks as if LD used the Fox morph on her. Ok I'm done. hehe. Thanks ahead of time for any help. Oh P.S. I made my first texture & bump map for Michael, its a blond vandyke. Kudos for me. Yaaaay. :)P

There are two routes you could take... Probably simplest is to use two overlayed figures, occupying the same space. Set the arm to "not visible" in one model and everything but the arm to "not visible" in the other model. Or... use one model upto the frame where "separation" occurs. In this last "together" frame, export the arm an an obj and re-import it. Make the original arm "not visible" and then the severed limb can drop to the floor. The blood could be difficult, though!! H:)

Oh... Use the "overlaying bodies with some parts invisible" method for putting cows heads on Vicky. I'd like to see your results if you can get them to match up!!! H:)

Look like this topic has been written in the Poser User Guide aready. It even has a picture of a minotaur in p.173

If you look in the Additional Figures folder of your Character Library, you'll find a few fully-functional severed body parts (hands, heads) awaiting your dismemberment pleasure.

The tail on my wolf-woman character is actually my poseable coonskin cap from Free Stuff. I scaled it larger and parented it to Victoria's hip, then turned off visibility on the cap portion, leaving only the tail visible.

Ooops! Perhaps I should have just given the page number for Hammer2002 to look up... but I'm at work. Soz. Hammer... forget what I said and look in the manual! H:)

Like this. Just add blood and transparencies and you are ready to go.

Yes and no! In Poser you can make any body part invisable, easiest way is to click of the little eye for the part in the Hierical(sp) Editor. The downside, of course, is the mesh isn't solid, if you look down the inside of the figure through the cut-off area you see just a hollow shell, no insides! You can put parts from one figure on another too, as the manual sort of says, my mermaids use their own tail mesh and call Vickie (or SMV) for the top part, just an external reference. The downside here is unless the mesh matches perfectly (as I made my tail do) you will see a seam, as Poser can't properly weld the mismatched parts. If one part overlapped the other you might get away with it, though. The caption for the above should be "Bring me the head of...(the casual guy?)"

I think it's that warez guy that keeps asking for the P4 models due to his "damaged" or "missing" files. :>

this will take you about 2 seconds using the grouping tool. just select the head and eyes, then create new props. then make the original head invisible.

Here's one I did last Halloween. Just pose a figure then EXPORT the 'dismembered' part. IMPORT it (them) back to use as the part and HIDE the coresponding part of another figure.

This way you can have many, many dismembered parts without taxing out the old CPU ;p

hint:
a) use a Transparancy on the severed part to control the edges.
b) Add a primitive in the 'empty hole' so camera angles don't show the hollow shell.

(I also used the same method to cut the Dragon's head off in my "The Huntress" pic in the Gallery)
