Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 24 7:34 pm)
Bernie, I'm sorry to hear that. But there is not many help possible, I'm afraid:-( With so much disk space haven't you done (what I always do) to keep a clean copy of Vue4.06 at another place? before installing 4.1. Have you installed the Full update of Vue 4.1? Or the incremental? Maybe try to re-install the upgrade again. Otherwise, hmmm! maybe uninstall and re-install. Vue 4.1 works. It must be another problem on your computer or Vue 4.1 didn't install propperly. I know, tha's not a great help:-( Guitta
Dear Guitta, normally Vue 4.1 works great and I didn't store a 4.06 version well somewhen I will render this scene possibly after 5.0 LOL! Dear Sharen, batch rendering is quitte nice and easy to do. You can render many scenes at the same time - in case your compy is fat enough. You just open the batch render and follow the instructions. For rendering a scene e.g. 7.vue (at first I always give numbers as names) you just write in one line: 7.vue Final with this your scene 7 will be rendered as in Final mode to the pictures directury as 7.bmp Try it you'll like it - I use it for very complex scenes as that I've been taking about above. Bernie,
This same thing happened to me in one scene I was working on. It drove me crazy. I had to remove half my lights for the render to finish.
My problem could have been the OS (Windows Me), because I haven't had the problem since updating to Windows XP.
The scene was running out of memory. I had 512 MB of RAM. I think what was causing the memory to be used so much was transparent materials. If your scene has transparent materials, you may want to remove some of them. Also, if your lights are set to cast shadows, then they use up more memory and processor time. You may get by with some lights not casting shadows.

Dear Charles, you are possibly right because I am running also this ME thingy with 640 MB RAM and have many different reflecting, glowing and transparent mats in the scene. Thank you for the hint. Bernie

Y'know, something similar just happened to me. It was a glowing material that set me back. With it in there, the render would stop saying "Collecting render data 51%" I took the glowing material out and it rendered just fine. Hmm, I did just install the 4.1 update. Wonder if it would have finished the render if I didn't have that.
It looks to me that it isn't a 'Light' problem. I've rendered a scene (with vue 4.06) under Windows ME, with over 120 lights, all casting shadows, and approximatively 20 of them having volumetric settings. It took a REAL long time to render, but I did it ! :-) Maybe a glowing materials problem, because I'm actually working (with Vue 4.1, this time) on one scene that sometime freeze... A thing that worked for me one time was to select all elements of your scene, except camera, and save it as a .VOB file. The creating a brand new file and re-import this object... You could try this... Hope it could help...
Bop - that's a great idea I'll try it. One the other hand side I'm thinking of an OS upgrade or better new install of Windows XP. Somewhere I red that MS will publish a second version at the CeBit 2003 - but that's in March! So I don't know shall I format my C: drive and install XP and after that all the other nice little progys or shall I wait and have next year springtime cleaning up?! 8-) Bernie

I'm maybe wrong, but I suppose this second version of Windows XP will be the XP 64 bits. I think that, effectively, it will be a very good purchase. The only thing that can cause problem with this version, if I understand what a friend told me, is that you will need the drivers of all the components of your computer in 64 bits. It will be easy if you have standard components (ATI, NVidia, CreativeLabs, Asus, etc...) but less sure with 'exotic' ones (Shuffle's motherboards, for example...). And, the last think, is that W XP64 will be worth the money if you plan to acquire a AMD Athlon 64 bits...

Hi folks, I am nearly getting mad - roar! I'm running Vue 4.1 and enhanced my drives with 120 GB as well as the working space from 128 to 640 MB but when I batch render a new scene of mine where I already took away 4 of the former 17 light this sh.. progy always hangs itself when it collects the data at the 68% mark. Rendering to screen doesn't work either and with both I only use "Final" mode. What can I do <-( ? Just forget about the scene? Bernie - the angry at the moment
