Subject: Why can't we stay together?

kjenarch ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 11:08 AM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 11:02 PM

I bought Mike, nice guy, and I've been working on some couples poses. I save the poses and when I reuse them in another drawing each character takes the pose but not in relationship to each other (relationships are a challenge) Do I need to reset something before I save or apply the pose so the characters will pose together? Thanks in advance for your attention.

The poses are always per character, the pose file will not save any relationship to other characters in the scene. When you open up a new scene and apply the poses, the characters will stay where they are in 3D space with the pose applied. You will need to move them together in order to get a "couples" pose to look as it did in the previous scene.

One of the cardinal rules when posing couples is never to move the body. Instead use the hip and feet trans to get them to where they need to go...

Actually, that is not true. I've rendered a few sets of couples poses, created by Schlabber (the Master of Poses). All I need to do is load the two characters, leave them exactly where they come into the picture, and then click on their respective poses. Voila, they're correctly posed in the picture.

Yep and Schlabber will come in soon and tell you the same...

I wish I could find the thread I read awhile back on posing figures together---there was something about the importance of the hip when you wanted to get two characters together......? Maybe you parent the hips?? Not sure how or if you would transfer it to a new scene, though----? (I'll be following this thread, too; glad you asked)

OK, what I am saying is that you can add Mike & Vicky to a scene. You don't even move them at all. Then you can click on a pose for each character, and they will automatically end up in the proper place and pose. I've done that with countless Schlabber poses, including Vicky and the DAZ Gorilla.

...which is presumably what Schlabber did, hence your being able to apply the poses to unmoved figures Ron.

I confess that I am at best a fumbler at times. I just love it when Schlabber and others provide such wonderful pose sets, for free. So I will bow out of this conversation, and leave it to those who know much more than me!

What saxon said. :)

Saving the pose to the Library does not save the "Body" information at all. To pose couples make sure your body X, Y, and Z Trans are at "0" and do all your posing from the hip.

I have a small posing tutorial that I made as part of a larger tutorial for PoserPros posted at the link above.

Thanks Lisa, I thought I'd become invisible there for a while...

Thanks for the input everybody, I think I understand about not moving the body and will give it a try using just the hips and feet to alter body pose oreintation.

Dave71 ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 4:02 PM

to get them to kove in the x,y,z motion and then have that information saved in the pose file you have to turn off inverse kinematics and use the HIP to move the characters, then wher you save the pose the hip movement dial values are also included. Hope this helps Dave

Dumb, dumb dumb-- that's me. I've been moving body all this time to position never from the hip-- that's why you get older, to get smarter, right? Thank you for the tips. Emily Lisa! Great tutorial and thank you for the tips about clothing, I always get a great nude figure and then popthrough on the conformed clothes.

Waht to say - I was on a small vacation - that's the reason for my late reply ... You can have a look at the link - it's all described there. Happy posing Schlabber
