Hi, does anyone know where I can find togas or other classical Greek outfits for Victoria or the P4 woman?

KUMO I downloaded some great textures for PhilC's classic wrap, when I tried to dowmload the Classic Wrap, I could not find it. I searched the free section, and PhilC's store, no luck. I sent a E-mail to philC, and never recieved a reply. If any one can tell me where to get it I would appreicate it.

ahem... ROMANS wore togas. Greeks wore tunics, when they wore anything at all.

LOL @ demosthenes! I have a couple of Greek outfits from Traveler's prop club but don't know if any of them are available still. Most other stuff is short, how about a long Greek woman's tunic with pleats and shoulder clasp anyone? As for the men, well yes, they can go naked :)

demosthenes_aborigin ( ) posted Tue, 13 August 2002 at 4:24 PM

didn't the greek men often wear a short skirt/kilt equivalent? seem to remember that off some ostrika

Actually, both Romans and Greeks wore tunica. Togas were worn by adult Roman men over a tunica, and by Roman prostitutes. For men, a long tunica was worn more formally, and a short (above the knees) one worn by soldiers, workers, slaves... i.e. the guys actually doin' stuff. I have a sort of woman's tunica on my website, although it's not very good.

demosthenes_aborigin ( ) posted Tue, 13 August 2002 at 11:40 PM

yeah yeah yeah, and the senators had a purple band on the hem of their togas, denoting rank, I know. pants didn't come into fashion in the roman world until the huns arrived and the Byzantines decided they were great military equipment... Hunnish robes were also adopted and became the byzantine uniform of state. Point is, GREEKS (hellenic period and Hellenistic period) did NOT wear togas.

Um, Dem, that was for anyone who didn't know and was curious. After all, to the average person on the street, a toga is a sheet you wear while getting drunk at a frat party.

curtskinn ( ) posted Wed, 14 August 2002 at 8:47 AM

If I had known that I was going to create such a firefight regarding my asking where I could find a toga, then I would not have brought it up because of the ruckus that it made. I had wanted to find something that I could use for my renderings, and not to create a squabble which is apparently what I did by accident.

demosthenes_aborigin ( ) posted Wed, 14 August 2002 at 9:55 AM

this isn't a fire fight - I just forgot to append an appropriate emoticon.

It looks like MallenLane is coming out with some really gorgeous ones this week. Check out the Showcase Forum for more info.

It's just a question of authenticity. It's like asking, "Hey, anyone know where I can get a kimono or other Chinese clothing?" Just know your history a bit, okay? You should know by now that most Poser folk are real nit-pickers when it comes to details... :)

demosthenes_aborigin ( ) posted Sat, 17 August 2002 at 2:40 PM

eek! I'm not "poser folk" - I've a BA in Classical History from Tulane!

Philywebrider ( ) posted Sat, 17 August 2002 at 4:45 PM

I hate to mention it, but isn't a Kimono Japanese? There is a fair amount of Japanese material around, I thinks Poserword has some great stuff, Daz3d I think has a house, and Renderosity has a few things. demosthenes aborigin: eek! I'm not "poser folk", what do you mean by that? Isn't this a Poser Forum, with poser people, helping Poser people, and talking about Poser? Are you here for another reason a reason unknown to us "Poser Folk"? ;oP

VirtualSite ( ) posted Sat, 17 August 2002 at 6:41 PM

isn't a Kimono Japanese? That was sorta the point, Phil. Togae are no more Greek than kimonos are chinese. :)

"what do you mean by that?" I mean I have been a nitpicker for good reason for a lot longer than Poser has been around.

""what do you mean by that?" I mean I have been a nitpicker for good reason for a lot longer than Poser has been around." I'm sure you have, sorry. I was just kidding demosthenes aborigin, did you see my ( :oP ), No offence intended. :o)

demosthenes_aborigin ( ) posted Mon, 19 August 2002 at 10:37 AM

no offense taken. I tend not to use emoticons, nor couch my posts in superfluous obsequy. I am not "in step" with the current culture, so I do not consider formal correctness insufficiently friendly for discourse between relative strangers. Trust me, you will know if I have been offended. ;)
