I think its a great idea! You're right about photographers and 2D artists being under-rated.... and being swamped down by the fantasy sections here =) Though I do have to admit, some of the fantasy stuff is gobsmacking [im not a traitor I swear] But how to start a site like that dude? Need ideas ppl, cuz Im a little braindead tonight xXxXx
Well I hate to sound apathetic, but I truly doubt that somehow it will change....'rosity started out as a place for 3D people hence the render in Renderosity....it's also how they make their money....notice the marketplace is just about nothing but poser products...I agree with you whole heartedly Rork...maybe a bit more promotion from within would help us 2d and photographic artists here.... as far as starting something new....well I already belong to 3 other sites that either concentrate on photography and or take photography seriously....I don't know how much further I could spread myself....I'm starting to forget which images I've uploaded where....plus those places are so busy I barely get noticed...ehhh...I don't know.... call me a cynic....
I am, therefore I create.......

Boring childish oldfashioned nerdish dragon and fairy stuff Hey, I resemble that remark! ;-) But that's not the point... I hear what you are saying, Rork, but am not sure what the actual goals should be. I'm not sure what real difference it would make if photography and 2d/graphics (incl photoshop, etc) received much, much more attention. Guess it would be nice to have a photographic sponser to contribute nifty prizes, but there may be a dark side to that. Since photo sites are likely my only means to fame (if not fortune), it would be nice if 'osity had a wider photo audience. As it is now, many more people have seen my work (here) than ever before, but I have no real illusions that fifty years from now folks will be still showing the Misha Gallery at this site or any other. However, some folks who contribute here may very well still be viewed generations from now. I think I may go off and search Google for "Photography Gallery," or similar, to see if Renderosity even makes the top 'hundred list. There are some folks here who are really good, and who would like to earn a living from their art. It would be nice if this venue enabled them to be "discovered." As for separation from Poser. Bryce, etc., I personally like the eclectic nature of the 'osity site.
I have to be with Mich on this. Although Renderosity will continue to be predominantly 3D (it started as Poserforum anyways), the 2D and Photography Forums (Fora?) will remain and thrive as long as there are people like us who simply think more of the aforementioned media than everyone else. (Heck, if it weren't for Photography, most of them modelers will be stumped for textures and stuff.) Second class, second fiddle, third world , etc.-- these terms are coined by people who don't know any better, IMO. We may be the minority here, but it doesn't necessarily mean things are the same elsewhere. I agree with you Rork, but it seems to me the only way for us is to stick together, and keep up with all the good work that we've been doing all this time. If we seem insignificant to the 3D majority, we matter most here in this forum. I know you certainly do matter here. I love this forum and I'm not going anywhere. To hell with the rest. LOL (*
No no, I didn't mean to move or start something new, I just meant that with all this stuff that is said to be for all skills (3d, 2d, photography, whatever) always the poser and/or fantasy stuff makes the cut. I just feel that we are left out of a lot of fun stuff, while photography and 2d graphics are pretty popular as an art form in the 'normal world'....so when we got so many great people in this great forum, why don't we deserve as much of a chance with all those fun things as anyone else ? And that convention contest just reminded me of how some peope look (down upon/at) stuff like illustration and photography. And that's a shame for sure. As a reminder, there were a couple of themes (space art, fantasy, etc) and all those who got picked were....well, you know. Same as the front page.....it gives the impression that there is hardly anything going on around here. No hard feelings, just wondering why this is always happening - hope I don't sound too negative towards r'osity's fine site =)
I oh so agree. But I'm pretty sure there are some 3D artists out there who share this sentiment with us (speak up, whoever you are! We come in peace! LOL). These are things beyond our control. Other people's opinions are beyond our control. And it's the majority that gets heard. I guess it's the way things are outside R'osity, too. Only the issues are different. (I'm such a cynic, I know... LOL) (*
Rork I know exactly what you mean about feeling second class, on a site this big photography & 2D does seem to get over looked. As the vast majority of R'osity members are into 3D that's what they are going to vote for & pay attention to. I think the recent 2D contest really showed how small the number of people interested in 2D is. I don't know if we can change anything. Whatever I know that for me out little piece of R'osity is the best place to be, great people & a lot of talent......maybe the best things do come in small packages ; ) btw Renderotic has nothing at all to do with Renderosity!!!!

hi, my 2c worth... :-) (stepping up to the soap box) i like photography and 3d art/modelling (although i have not contributed to any of those forums yet). i think 'osity is i great forum, but as mentioned above, it's geared towards poser/bryce worlds. the main sponsors of this site are also the creators of those apps. i've also seen a few poser/bryce/"other 3d app" users contribute to the photography gallery as well. this sort of "cross pollenation" is certainly a good thing as we can all learn a thing or two from each other. also, i think that their artists certainly outnumber us photography/2d/photoshop/painter users. But the scales need to be balanced!! so what is the solution? i'm not sure. i think that if the competions are open to all of 'osity then maybe it should be divided into 3d app and non 3d app categories. aom should be given to each individual forum and not grouped together (there is more than enough contributors to the forums to allow for this). if they are grouped, then they should be evenly divided between forums. whatever the solution i think that those that run the site should be made aware of the situation so that, hopefully, corrective action can be taken. How about this Renderosity combines the 2D and Photography forums and galleries, half the time Im not sure where to post my images, then again I use a little poser now and then, we should combine the photo 2D and poser forums no this is no good, perhaps we should have a forum for girls and one for boys. If we continue to categorise art than this is the stupid thing that starts to happen. My god my camera club splits photography up into 4 separate categories and thats bad enough. Its the image thats important so please dont get lost in the categories and processes used to create it. As for a Photography only Renderosity. NO THANKS. To improve and be inspired we need to be exposed to all art. And where else can you get a daily fix of fresh art? :O)

While I certainly agree with the point about photogs/2d being underexposed here (no pun intended), I have to say that a photo only 'rosity' would probably be difficult. there are sooo many photo/gallery sites out there, and like Michell A, I am getting spread out pretty far. not that I mind, but it does get difficult keeping track of where I'm at. I really dig the gallery setup here because of it's diversity. (At least) in the photo gallery, there does not seem to be a prevailing theme that sucks attention away from the more 'non traditional' work, that is, each style seems to get a fair shake here. I find at some other photo sites, unless you're shooting ducks, flowers, or pretty barns, a persons work can go largely un-noticed. I think the diversity here leads to more open minded viewing. for example, I have such a smattering of work in my gallery and it all seems to get pretty equal attention (from edgy nudes to landscape to heavy manipulations). I'm willing to accept the current state of things here, it's a small price to pay for the actual feedback and comraderie that one can enjoy here. this is not to say that I would not join another site, just that I am pretty happy with the state of things here. However, I think maybe they could (the 'rosity folks) offer a more photo friendly format to sell our works here. Maybe that would help offest the 'bias' that we all seemto notice. but really I love this place, and I go away inspired every time I leave this site. Can't say that with photo.net always, or some of the other communities. well, I'm tired and rambling so I'll climb back into my mouse hole and shut up. Interesting post though, thank you.
There sure are a lot of good points being made. It seems that this place is, and can become, pretty much whatever we want to make it. If we work to recognise and further our own interests it hardly matters what is happening over on the "main" page. Alpha and Sue, even with their large staff of highly trained assistants, can't do it all themselves. As we grow, I'm finding it difficult to even get through the Gallery thumbnails once a day, much less actually opening the image and writing insightful relevant and helpful comments. Our best learning experiences lately seem to be in the Forum, where someone will start an interesting thread, and the discussion develops from there. Our more focused Contests seem to have fallen off in participation. I guess maybe Alpha and Sue could use some volunteers to help with POTW, encouraging new artist participation, developing tutorials and reviews, contributing to News & Views, editing the FAQ...

Hi girls & guys! I just saw the results of the Convention Poster Contest, and as usual, the winners were all completely poser/fantasy style. While there were more themes aside of fantasy, I was already convinced beforehand that no entries for any of the other categories would ever had a chance. Ofcourse I'm a little disapointed that my entry wasn't picked as one of the runner-ups, but that's not really why I'm writing this ;) Seriously, in my view this forum and the 2d graphics forum are both a very large pool of highly talented, professional and creative people. And while I don't want to be disrespectful against the people who do all the work on this great site, I do really feel that both photography and 2d/graphics (incl photoshop, etc) deserves much, much more attention. While graphic design, illustration and photography have been one of the most popular and most used art forms, it just seems to be 2nd class to anyone else on r'osity. Also the forums themselves, as communities, are just awesome and just buzzing with great work and ideas, day by day. Also the galleries are busier as far as I am able to judge it. So what I'm thinking of is if you all feel this the same way and if there's anyway to give all these fine photographers and 2d artists the exposure & extras (AOM, etc) they deserve imo. Especially now that a site like photo.net has got too much photos being uploaded everyday, I really think a photography-only r'osity would be a really awesome thing. If you don't see what I mean, just look at the front page and look how many things are related to real photography or 2d graphics. MOM, AOM, featured products, poster contests, spotlight, etc.....with a few exceptions it's all about this poser/fantasy stuff. And I hate fantasy!! Boring childish oldfashioned nerdish dragon and fairy stuff ;) Seriously, it's time for a tiny revolution. You guys really deserve it all =) PS Is renderotica.com from the same people as renderosity ? If so, why not a photorosity.com or something ? It would be the first serious site to take care of 2d graphics and photography....
