Dear Mr. Steve Cooper and Curious Labs staff. I completely disappointed that CL online store kick Japanese off again. I guess you say "That is matter of contract with the dealer in Japan" That is PROBLEM. Japanese got Poser4 and PPP almost a half year later than US and the other contries users. We had not been able to open the works of my friends, and had not made anything for Poser4 or PPP for long time. I always complained about this unfairness. But I could not get sincere reply from CL and Japanese dealer neither. In Japan, We can't get any information about P5 at all now!! It'll take months until Japanese dealer ship Poser5. I don't mention about Japanese version. I and many Japanese users use English version.(If not, notable Japanese creators can't present their pruducts for Poser freaks of the World because of double bytes code .) But We can't buy even English version anywhere because of your policy. In behalf of major Japanese Poser users, I ask you. Why does CL keep Japanese users away from new products for months ? Don't you feel anything about this problem? What can you do for shipping P5 to Japanese users soon ? I hope your sincere reply. (pls don't say "wait for a while")

Virus ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 1:52 AM

Yamato: I understand very well your problem, at least CLs thinks in Japanesse poser comunity. There is not way to get a spanish version of poser yet. It seems to me that the Latin American market and the Spain market don't interest at all to Curious Labs. I hope I will be wrong about this, but year after year CLs has been ignored spanish speaking users. I know that this is not a excuse for CLs to delay the release of their products to Japan, but at least you are able to get a Japanesse version after 6 months ago, people who speaks spanish are not able to get a spanish version in years. It is hard to belive that Curious Labs takes the European market as a 2nd an Japan Market as a 3th Cathegory markets, this is a serious mistake from the company's adminstrative board, or maybe show the arrongance of the people who runs the company?. If CLs wants to be at the same level as the big 3D software makes companies they need to change their policy and leave their little niche taking care and showing a risposable attitude with their Japanesse market, as well as be open for other potential markets like the Spanish one. I hope Curious Labs really read your message Yamato. I'm totatlly agree with you and share your frustation. Virus

c1rcle ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 2:47 AM

I'm hope too CL aren't going to ignore the Japanese market it really wouldn't be the same without you guys making your high quality items, maybe they would consider giving someone the job of translating it to Japanese & Spanish, what's the word on this Steve/Anthony/Tori? Rob

MadYuri ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 6:23 AM

I hope they get rid of the different folder names for different language versions in the Runtime folder. It's a pain in the posterior to move everyting I buy/download from the english into the german folder system. :P Now CL is a small company and a good translation takes time, therefore I think they should make the englisch version of Poser 5 woldwide available. It's bad enough that the Mac people have to wait. This whole reseller business is kinda dopey because of the worldwide internet economy where everyone can buy everything from everywhere. So... POSER 5 FOR JAPANESE USERS, THEY DESERVE IT. ;D

MadYuri ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 6:26 AM

Oh, I don't want to slight the other users, so... POSER 5 FOR EVERYONE!!! ;D

audity ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 6:38 AM

I'm really sad about that...

some of the most generous and talented Poser users are from Japan : Kosaburo, Yamato, Studio Maya, Iso... Thousands of poser renders feature the KyokoHair MKII by Kosaburo. So I really think that something should be done for them.

COME ON CURIOUS LABS ! GIVE SOME INFORMATION IN JAPANESE ABOUT POSER 5 ! AND FIND A BETTER JAPANESE DISTRIBUTOR !!!

:) Eric

Come on folks... let's be a little bit more practical with our screaming. Curious Labs is doing the best they can with the resources they have. I can assure you of that, or we wouldnt even have a Poser 5 on the horizon at all. Doug

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

Flaxynn ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 8:31 AM

Okay, so maybe I'm a complete bubble-head, but why can't they be allowed to just order it like we all do? They're not asking for a Japanese "version" of the product, simply availablity of the English version. I'm assuming it has something to do with export/import fees??? If the product were downloadable would that be acceptable for them?? (The Japanese market) Kupa? Anybody?

sturkwurk ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 8:49 AM

quixote ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 9:09 AM

As far as I know, one can order Poser 5 in English by mail order. That might get it to Japan before the distributor gets it. Might be worth a try. Q

Hello to all.
I'm also totatlly agree with Yamato and MadYuri.

We do not wanna see Language issue anymore!!!

I ever asked to CL about that why they don't release SR3 for Japanese version.
I was needed to use C4D plugin.
CL replyed me very quickly.
here's that message from CL:

Hello!

Service release 3 was incorporated into the shipped version of Poser Japan.
Unfortunately, as the Cinema 4D plug-in was released later and seperately
from the service release for the English version, it is not available for
the Japanese version. You will need to purchase both the English version of
Poser and the Poser Pro-Pack if you must have the plug-in.

We will take your recommendations in to consideration.
Thank you for using Poser.

I was considered to buy Poser4E and PPP-E,I have already Poser4J and PPP-J though....

This is nothing blame about CL.
My wish is more conpatibility about our languages on Poser.
Is it too hard ?

Thank you

poserpro ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 11:11 AM

Considering a situation of business in the world. People in "A" (Country_Name) can only buy a software program ( either "A" language version or English ) via their "A" dealer, and one exclusive dealer only. With some developers have two dealers or more as exception. They have agreement that CL ( and other developers) can't break ( assuming this is their position), they can not sell their products directly to the people at A, only via their "A" dealer, A people can neither buy the product via dealers at B or C, OR D ....this is business policy. It is not CL( and other developers) doesn't want to make from money out of it, their agreement makes the rule for CL( and other developers) and their dealers worldwide. CL( and some of other developers) doesn't have foreign branches to do more marketing/service locally, so they need to count on the dealer. And As far as I concerned, CL only has one dealer only for each country--exclusively. Which makes me piss off as when the dealer doesn't do a good job for CL great products, the dealer just wastes the sources. I think this pattern of business is much the same in other developers. I am one of the few luckier, as a software reviewer, I can get support from developer very soon, usually I get NFR program in 4 ~ 10 days depened on the location of their business firm, meaning where they send the package, US, Europe, or else. They most of the time send it via FedEx. And FedEx is the best in efficiency for delivery. Lucky me.:)

Flaxynn ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 11:54 AM

Ah, the "middle-man" now I understand. Would these practices apply to a downloadable version of the product?

sturkwurk ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 12:02 PM

How about all the times there's been when new Video Game consoles have been available in Japan months before the States? Or Games themselves that never make it over the Pacific? Or comics/videos/dvd's/electronic equipment/cars etc. International trade is a trillion dollar industry... and CL is a little fish swimming in a very large ocean, full of sharks.

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

minerva ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 12:12 PM

Japanese users who enjoy Renderosity do NOT want Japanese vesion of Poser5. we only want to obtain English version quickly in Japan. Please, please sell to me. We Japanese users want to purchase a English version of Poser5 from CL directly!

c1rcle ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 12:17 PM

I don't understand why our Japanese friends can't order, is it some wierd law that stops them from ordering now? Rob

quixote ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 12:25 PM

I don't see any prohibition from doing so by mailorder. www.curiouslabs.com/go/mailorder It may take a bit longer, but it's better than going through some middle man.

Well, I've never written to this forum before or any other forum for that matter, but I'd like to add something here. Although I live in U.S., I'm Japanese and I frequently visit these artists' web site, and always amazed by their incredible talent and the craftmanship that goes into their work. Japanese Poser artists have been offering us beautiful clothing, hair, Prop, and those utterly beautiful Japanese female models for free, for all these years! Kozaburo, Iso, Yamato, Minerva, Rubio, Two-sword, to just name a few, are Poser community's important assets just like other contributor in U.S. or Europe. I can't wait to see what these maestros going to do with P5! can you? Is there any way for these Japanese artists to get their copy?

Taruru ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 12:32 PM

I approve of yamato's opinion, too.
I tell an immediate answer on the CL side, and I want to hope, too.

shadowcat ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 1:43 PM

I for one back the opinion of all the non-US users. This is a big issue for them because not only must they wait for the software but they have to pay more for the "priveledge" They are only asking that the software be available to them and not a translated version. To ignore this is to invite increased warez. And in this case I wouldn't blame them. (now wearing flame proof suit) What choice do you leave them? But on the other hand, I know nothing about how the markets of these countries work or what steps need to be taken so I won't be to critical of CL. Lastly I will say that Poser 5 HAS NOT been released yet, this is now only the prelease stage. And most likely the contracts have already been signed so CL may have no legal options on this matter.

iso2400 ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 2:16 PM

I agree with Mr. yamato. I love Poser and love the Poser user in the world. I am sad about these measures against a Japanese Poser user. I ask for a suitable improvement. ISO

f91 ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 2:50 PM

The best solution is Curious Labs should provide us a choice to purchase a box version or a download version Poser5. It only takes us 30 minutes to download. That way we dont have to waste our money on those expense shipping, handling fees and time. Hope Mr. Cooper reply soon with good news to all Poser lovers!

maclean ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 2:52 PM

I'd like to add my voice in support of all the japanese users. Just seeing some of the names in this thread covers about 20% of the free stuff I've downloaded. In fact, if there was a special high-speed delivery for contributions to the poser community, some of our japanese friends would get their copy of poser 5 before anyone else! Just one thing though. Downloadable versions have been mentioned twice in this thread. Who would want to download poser? Poser 4 was 365 megs! And who knows what size poser 5 will be? One thing's sure....it won't be any smaller. CL? Aren't you going to at least answer them? mac

mateo_sancarlos ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 3:18 PM

The Japanese also get my vote. In their case it's both a distribution problem and a translation problem, and if Curious Labs has trouble doing the Japanese version, there are plenty of guys like Yamato who would help there. The same goes for the Spanish version of Poser 5. There are plenty of guys who read/write English and Spanish and would do the translation work, especially if we got on the payroll and could work from our home office.

Stormrage ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 3:18 PM

Calm down guys.. I am sure CL will answer when they have a chance. Remember they now have set themselves a deadline to get poser 5 out and ready. To do that they are now probably working around the clock. And you have to admit there are tons of threads on poser 5 right now that they have to wade through. This thread is only a few hours old. Give them a chance Steve and crew have a lot on their plates.

f91 ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 3:33 PM

Maclean I dont know about you, but it only took me less than 30 minutes to download a 223MB game.

Stormrage: just check the link I'm posting. It is not a surprise for me to be ignored in the Spanish request for poser. I'm agreed with mateo sancarlos there is a lot of spanish speaking users who are able to read and writte english, but I've seen a lot of people that are not able to do this and they have to guess almost everycommand of the program. My hats off for those who just guessing can use a program.

This may not be relevant but the "buy only from your local distributor" thing sounds suspiciously like the "country codes" on DVD players and movies. Corporations (and I'm not necessarily referring to CL here) need to get with the networked world and stop trying to milk consumers by balkanizing the market.

Yamato, We're coordinating with Software Too, our Japanese distributor to enable Poser 5 upgrades for our Japanese customers via their systems. I'm sorry I don't have a timeline yet, but we are pressuring heavily to get this process up quickly. I hope to have information about preordering English product in Japan in the next few days. Some of our most impressive users are in Japan. Kozaburo is one of my heros. Yamato; you, Two-sword, Ryo and the rest of the team at PoserFactory have my greatest respect. When I met Ryo and Two-sword in Machuhari a few years ago, I was given a photo of your team. It still sits in the corner of my Poser "shrine". I hope this year to return to Japan and meet with you and the rest of the Poserfactory team. I would also like to introduce you to SW2. They are looking to help grow the community and may be able to use to your help. If for some reason we cannot solve this issue in a reasonable amount of time, please contact me. I will personally take care of getting upgrades to you. Steve Cooper

I would like to appeal for calm from all Poser users who because of language, geographical location, platform or hardware specification will not be in the first wave of users to upgrade to Poser 5. If there is Poser 4 in any of the above situations then it is very unlikely there will not be a version of Poser 5 in the same. Not many things placed in the forum will speed up any delivery or announcement or announcement of announcement of any product and flaming or trolling cant be serving any purpose. My own upgrading to 5 as it happens will be delayed and otherwise complicated by more that one of the above factors so you can presume how annoyed I could decide to be. Its often hard to tell if some of the entries in some threads are from people who are angry or if theyre actually taking the p*ss. Members in Rural America and the Centauri Republic will also have to adapt to it when its released.
