Subject: Converting Poser/3DS

Is there a utility out there for converting the file format that Poser saves as into a file format that 3DS Max can import/open?

Poser can natively export .3ds files for figures or props. They will be non-posable though. The ProPack has plug-ins that will export poser scenes for use in Max. I haven't tried it but I understand that it sets up the figures so they are poseable in Max. If you want to go this route, I'd check the CL website for info on the plug-in just to be sure.

The CrossRoads utility can convert between OBJ and 3DS (and other formats), it's free:

right, but can it convert from .pz3 or .pzz?

I checked out the Max plug-in info at CL. It says the plug-in will host scene files in Max so that covers .pz3 files. You'll want to look at the plug-in area at CL. There's some additional info on how it works that'll help.

yes, unfortunately the 3DS Max plug-in for Poser requires that you have also have 3DS Max installed (which I don't). What I'm looking to do is creat stuff in Poser 4 that I cna then share with ither users, and 3DS Max just seemed the most universal format.

Oh, well the most used format for Poser stuff is the .obj. There are several freeware modeling programs that will export .obj files. One that I've tried and works well for Poser is Anim8or. I've attached the link. The front page is a little screwed up right now but if you go to the download area you'll find the newest release.
