But as far as I know he was his usual self, I can't fathom why he was banned all of a sudden. It bothers me very much that I had to hear it from a third party. :[

He's still here but under a clone. I don't know the handle off hand, but he's still around. I'm sure he's seen the note about the link problem and will get it fixed.

Chrisjon was what he was using last week but I haven't seen much of him since. I also didn't see any big fusses so maybe the problem was behind the scenes.

I think it was warez related. He was answering somebody's question and posted an image of his desktop including the icon for some software for getting warez. (what it was I don't can't remember, not that it matters) Somebody pointed it out and there was a fuss. Anyway that was the last I have seen of ronknights.

I understand he was banned because his presence "incited other people into breaking the rules of the TOS". In other words, he was banned for the fact he was disliked by many, and so many chose to pick at him to the point of breaking the TOS over and over. That doesn't make sense... Half the admins prolly have an icon for Morpheus/Kazaa/WinMX/whatever... I know most merchants do, if for no other reason than to check if anyone is pirating their stuff. I doubt that would be the reason why. I mean, lookit - I have a house full of rifles, shotguns, and pistols, but the police haven't tossed me in prison for murder yet (and I go shooting with quite a few at the local range even...) Also, I host a lot of Ron's free stuff here (hence the link), and have just looked over his site today (I'd been out for a week), finding no warez or any other illegal data. Ergo, I seriously doubt it was warez-related, at least not from here.

They wouldn't ban somebody for being a target of other people's bad behavior. My guess is that they didn't ban him, but I wouldn't blame him for going someplace else with less trolls. I don't see why people want to make trouble for each other when there's so many resources here to keep them happy and occupied.

Ronknights was banned for his own behaviour (not warezing). After many, many warnings and discussions with almost every admin and mod here he still refused to play well with others. He was banned for being continually disruptive. We have also removed as many of his clones as we could find. That's as much as I can or will say on the subject. Lyrra

They banned him for that?!? At least Warez activities I can understand. But for being disruptive? Yes he can be a little much to take at times, but to ban him for being hard to deal with seems a little much. His personality kinda reminds me of my brother, so maybe I look at it differently.

There are so many troublemakers here that never get banned, so why single out Ron?! Pick on some trolls, for a change, or the idiots who butt into every conversation and flame and get away with it, sheesh!!! Ron is irritating at times, but COME ON! He is harmless!

Thanks for the info, Lyrra. It was exactly what I wanted to hear. There is some justice in the world. I think in order to understand the dislike of ronknights and his ability to "disrupt," one would have to have been here when he first joined. Or go back and read all the controversies...er, threads...he either started or was involved in. But that wouldn't be possible now because he deleted many of his past messages. Knowing Ron since he joined I fully agree with what they did. In fact, I think it should have been done much sooner. Thanks again Lyrra and to all involved in the decision.

I'm with Jackson and Lyrra. Once you got used to Ron he was fine, it was just Ron not a bad guy just not well socialized and you had to walk on eggshells around him. But for a newbie-- and he always pounced on newbies-- it was tough. Thank you, Lyrra. Emily And his tutorials are still the best for the brand new.

I think it's a shame, Ron could be difficult but he contributed more than most to this community. Reading all the arguments could be fun at times too! Baz

TOS and rules work just fine as long as you dealing with a population that shares common characteristics. When you have an outlayer - a data point from an entirely different population - it is usually necessary to discard that data point to maintain the integrity of the rest of the experimental data. This time, I agree with the action.

Lol, I noticed that too. My first real question here was responded to by Ron with "go look it up". But he didn't like that type of answer when he needed help. As a newbie to the forums, it didn't start me out with a good impression.
I think he just had a hard time socializing and an overinflated ego.

Ron seemed at several times jumped on people. He was strong willed and always had the strongest opinion, not willing to see the other point of view. Several times I sent a message to moderators saying that Ron seemed very disrupted. I have not encounted Ron personally, just I tried to avoid him with how some of his messages were.

Those members happened to be staff(still members though...lol) As a staff member of these sites you need to be able to take a bit of abuse from time to time,but Ron just wouldn't let up. I would have to save html copies of all his post immediately for proof of what he said because he would delete or edit them and then turn around and play the victim. To follow up with what Hawkfyr said: How Ron behaves in public is nothing compared to the grief that he can dish out to mods and admins. I have saved some very vile and hurtful emails from this man. The decision to ban him from 3D Commune came after many long discussions. To be honest, Ron banned himself, he was afforded the opportunity to discuss things rationally, and to say publicly that he would follow the 3DC TOS. He refused to do so and then continued the behaviour. It was his choice. Now, to the scolding... He was entertaining yes, but, if he were ignored, would things have gotten this far? I'm not talking about the arguments. They were too easy to come by. I'm talking about this pseudo-idol worship that was set up to goad him on into continuing his work. His tutorials gained popularity out fo the fact that Ed Wood couldn't have done a better job. His tutorials were/are pricless for their unintentional campiness and near childlike enthusiasm. How many people read them for their usefullness and how many read them for the laughs? How many encouraged him to make more and more just so they could laugh behind his back? How many filled him with praise just so they could watch his ego grow and help push things to the inevitable end? I think, in the end, we are all guilty. Some more than others. I'm not saying that we should be sad that he's gone. Not at all. My deepest regards go out to the folks at PoserPros for having to deal with him. I just think we all need to be more careful.

yup he was / is abrasive a lot. but, what people are doing here is also against the tos. never mind the fact that he can't come and defend himself, so your personal comments attacking him are being said behind his back. he isn't here anymore, why not let the subject die a natural death? I'm sure all know where to go to get into a discussion with his prsence included, why not have the courage to take these comments to where he can see them?

Boy, these things are so hard to talk about without seeming like I'm trying to slander someone or hide some great conspiracy! Please keep in mind:

1. We don't ban many people here - and most bans are clone accounts of previously banned members.
2. Being annoying is not against the TOS. It takes a lot more than having a bad day to get a warning.
3. Sometimes there is more to the issue than what is seen on the forums - private IMs, e-mails, etc.

I could give a comprehensive list of issues that led to the banning, but that wouldn't be professional of me, nor would it be fair to Ron Knights. When it is necessary to take action - for warnings or bannings, we privately e-mail or IM the person to explain our reasons. If a member disagrees with the reasoning, they're allowed to explain their position and there have been cases where we've reversed our decision - chalking it up to a misunderstanding by one or both parties. There have been at least 3 private conversations between RK and one or more staff here. I can say in public that because it is a part of our TOS to give multiple chances.

We don't take warnings and bannings lightly. There's always a discussion first between mods and admins to make sure that we're being fair and not misinterpreting things or acting out of personal feelings instead of acting in everyone's best interest.

I think it would be best for Ron Knights if everyone let this thread drop. There are reasons that many people here have expressed relief at his absense - publically and privately.

I wish Ron Knights success at PoserPros - no sarcasm intended.

I agree with jaqui it's really unfair to say bad things about Ron when he can't come here & defend himself. I for one do not agree that he should be banned, in fact I think he should be reinstated immediately. I've seen plenty of others who've behaved far worse than Ron's perceived crimes & they are still active members so Bring Ron Back! Rob
