Third Times a Charm...Sorry... Hey Everyone... For the past couple of weeks I have seen the rising of the animators!!!...or as Bobasaur put it so nicely...The Posimators... How about we make it official!?! To the following post your number here!!! Now...I would be cautious...I myself would wait for the founding animators to officially take their numbers and I'll sneak in somewhere around 13-14... As soon as the Fellowship as entered in full I will dedicate a page to each and everyone of you on my site with a quick bio with some interests and some motivation to all newbies...if it's okay with you guys... So let it be said...(he grinned looking in the eyes of men and women who spent countless hours in front of their beloved screens...their..."precious"...hint, hint...) Come forward Posimators and finally make it official!!!

no not 13

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Sat, 07 September 2002 at 11:02 PM

Little_Dragon
Posimator #11.3 (working his way up toward a whole number)

Bio:
Born in the moors of southern England in 1182 AD; relocated from France to the Americas in the late 1800s due to profound lack of living space in Europe. Currently residing in a cave in the woods, exact location -- none of your business.

Interests:
Enjoys cats and Holsteins (although not in the same way), sci-fi and fantasy, anime, and long flights on dark, cloudy nights; dabbles in digital video, sketching, and 3D graphics; and is fascinated by small, shiny objects.

Ok..... third times a charm. Wish it worked that way with the softball animations I have been working on :) EdW Posimator #6.something

AliasAngel ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 2:56 AM

I'm a totally newbie, but cool! I want to get into animations. I'll take 13 if nobody else wants it and you'll let me have it.

bikermouse ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 3:01 AM

I'm 13

AliasAngel ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 3:07 AM

Ah, so your objection was because it was taken, not that you hate 13. Okay, I see.

bikermouse ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 3:11 AM

Alias Angel I asked bobasaur for 13 a while back. so technically I'm thirteen of twelve in the Borg nominclature. I was waiting respectfully for the twelve to sign in, but I had to speak up before someone grabs my designation. - TJ

saxon ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 3:36 AM

Hmmm, this is tricky! Can we be more egalitarian?

Jackson ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 7:22 AM

How do you know what your number is? I've been animating in Poser 4 (off and on) since it came out. I just couldn't understand it and was never any good at it, so I rarely took part in any threads about it. So what would my number be? (Please don't say Zero, that's my wife's number for me.) Jackson (still waiting on that tut from Bobasaur)

Norbert ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 9:58 AM

If this also includes Poser animation that's imported into other applications, I suppose you can include me along with the other spline enterpolated contortionally disfunctionalized animation makers. (snicker!)

ockham ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 11:22 AM

Well, I probably should be in this list. Though I never do "stories", most of my serious work in Poser involves animations to illustrate scientific subjects. In my not-so-serious work, the emphasis is always on mechanics and dynamics, never on a pretty render.... my contributions here have been either Python scripts to control movements, or props with moving parts.

I remember bikermouse asking about being 13 back in the thread that I've just listed. The first thread I could find listing Posimaters is linked to in my original posting there. best I could tell, I was 7th of the 12 mentioned. I also think it's only fair to reiterate that there are "The Elder Ones" like Joe Glover. As I counted the list, little_dragon was actually number 6 - it was his mention of my name that reminded Wolf to include me in the list. However, if he wants to be #11.3 it's fine with me. I've done some checking since I posted the "I am 7 of 12" thread and I'm pleased to report that I still look good in form-fitting, tight clothing. That is, if you like the kind of forms I fit.

Bobasaur ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 1:00 PM

Please bear in mind that there may have been something I missed somewhere but this was the best I could find to explain where "the 12" came from (I was out for a few days and when I came back there were references to "the 12 Poser animators"). If I missed something please let me know. Although I kinda like the "7 of 12" designation I would sacrifice it for the truth - or a mutually agreed upon legend that we all agree to fabricate and spread. The only original thing I really did was coin the term "Posimator"

krimpr ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 3:03 PM

I'm steering clear or the 1-12 thing. Bikermouse seems to have snagged 13, so I'm good with 14 unless AlisasAngels uninformed bid to scoop 13 from Bikermouse bumps him to 14 by default, at which point I'm hoping for an official #15 designation.

cat3dgrafx ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 3:09 PM

Okay...let's make this a little harder... In order for you to have a number, you have to have made an animation. Something simple, nothing more than 1.3 MB. I will host all of them on my site and I'll make a poll and have the viewers vote on the best one... It's only fair if you consider yourself #1 or 13# it should really reflect on your work as I think that being # 1 on the list everyone will be asking you for advise... But, that's just me...What do you guys think?

cat3dgrafx ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 3:11 PM

This way from good to okay to really needs help. You'll be able to distinguish yourself. What good is a number if you don't have any work to back it up...

krimpr ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 3:20 PM

Ummm... guess 15 is up for grabs. I'll try to have something up to the "Really Need Help" class in a week or so... but I'll be back!!

Bobasaur ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 3:22 PM

Cat, I'd talk to Wolf about that since he's a founder. Also, timeteo1 and several of the others who've claimed numbers but haven't dropped in on this thread. Links to works were given in the thread I linked to in my "I am 7 of 12" thread. Do you actually have anough space to host that many animations? Also, FWIW, I've tried to give the Renderosity a break after Dragon*Con - I know they've been quite busy between the Magazine Release and the Convention. I plan on hitting one of the Admin Forums (probably the Community Ideas) within the next week and starting a campaign for an Animation Gallery. My thought is that it could be set up so that we can upload a poster frame (still) with a description and a link. The link would lead to the actual animation stored somewhere besides the Renderosity servers. I think this would provide a central place for us to find each others' animations yet not cost Renderosity server space ($$$$$). It's an idea.

Well, when you're all done slugging it out for number 13, I'll try and sneak in at the end. All I have are a couple of stupid bryce animations. But...as long as there are days ahead, I just may do some Poser animations.

Jackson ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 4:43 PM

I never thought there was an actual list of "12 animators." I always figured it was a joke referring to the lack of animation-related subjects here at Rosity. I don't know who started the joke but I think that's what happened. So who knows how many Rosity members animate? I don't. That being the case, I'll take number 99. (Because it's been a favorite of mine for years and '69' would be too obvious.) And if you're going to judge by quality or knowledge of animations, it would be a fair number for me, I think. STILL waiting on the tut from Bobasauer.

saxon ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 5:00 PM

You're right Jackson, it did start as a joke. But, since animation in Poser gets such little attention it's pleasant to be able to show some work...

bikermouse ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 6:34 PM

cat, That thing about hosting sounds good, but bandwidth even at 1.3 megs seems like it would be a problem. But if you're up to it bandwidth wise, I'm game. What was the URL again? bob, that's an exellent idea. I noticed that right now renderosity only handles animated gifs, though. is there a good avi to gif converter that is free or really close to it? at this point in time I don't have a lot of money to spend on it. - TJ

Redfern ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 6:59 PM

I don't know if Mimic assisted animations comply, but here's my entry using Lemurtek's Guenevere (for whom I supplied the phoneme morph targets) and Tonyo1701's bridge station. Note: You'll need the DivX 5 codec to play the clip. If we can arbitrarily choose our numbers, I's like 42 (yes, I'm a Hitchhikers' fan), but I'll take whatever you grant. I hope I qualify.

Tempt the Hand of Fate and it'll give you the "finger"!

I will post an animation tonight that will astound, I think.

TalmidBen ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 7:15 PM

It would be great if we could have a place to sign in, so that our numbers will be undisputable. I'm probably in the 20's or so. ben

Hi Guys.... Well..the response that we've gotten is incredible. I do have to remind you though that the website is mainly to give newbies a place to go and take a look at a great animations. I will not be hosting every single one that you make....It has to be nicely made and obviously isn't going to be super large in size... That way...everyone can get hosted and have a place to have people see their great work. I'll pay more for bandwidth if I have to... The things that your willing to do for you guys...huh... P.S. A new animation will be posted within the next hour or so...I definitely recommend you checking it out... It's not made in Poser, but Animation Master but still worth seeing... CAT

bikermouse ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 8:45 PM

I'll get to work straightaway this midnight and make a brand new posermation. bear in mind I'm using barebones Poser 4. Any particular subject ?

Jackson ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 9:52 PM

How about some gymnastics?

bikermouse ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 10:12 PM

Hmm, tail might get in the way but I'll see what I can come up with. I'll see if I can find that old Bruce Tegner book for a reference.

TalleyJC ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 10:23 PM

I would like to reserve my place as "Animator X " I was animating on day 1 when I got poser and it amazed me that I seemed to be alone. I thought it was the whole point of poser..... anyway, most of my animations have been for my own amusment... But I like CAT's idea of sharing the wealth of knowledge... It would have been a great help to me when I started. So go ahead and pick numbers.... Lets get to the High six figures....... I just want to be X =0)

Has anyone seen the new animation posted at the site called "Snapshots" yet?

krimpr ( ) posted Mon, 09 September 2002 at 8:14 AM

Uh oh... something seems to be wrong with the Snapshots file I downloaded. The file displays a blank screen throughout playback. I opened it with both Windows Mediaplayer, and DivX; same thing. Haven't seen this happen before and thought I should mention it.

Bobasaur ( ) posted Mon, 09 September 2002 at 8:40 PM

I was able to convert itsuccessfully for the Mac using divX Doctor 2 with the exception of the audio, which was broken up and scratchy. That said; WOW! Beautifully done! Outstanding story and animation work!!!!!!!!!!! p.s. Jackson, As of tomorrow, my time should open up pretty significantly. I know I was talking a month or so but I may be able to get to that tutorial sooner than I'd expected.

Snapshots ran perfectly fine on my PC with DivX 5.0.2 Pro and Windows Media Player 6.4. My congratulations to the author! Excellent work. Had me wondering what those flying globs were, until the very end.

Jackson ( ) posted Mon, 09 September 2002 at 10:53 PM

Bob, I didn't recall you mentioning a time frame, my bad. I was expecting it in a day or so. Silly me. What are you going to cover?

cat3dgrafx ( ) posted Tue, 10 September 2002 at 6:35 PM

Sorry about that...I should have mentioned the file type. It should run perfect like Little Dragon said the DivX 5.0.2. The file is in .AVI format. You can visit the creator's website for a quicktime streaming video. CAT

bikermouse ( ) posted Tue, 10 September 2002 at 10:50 PM

cat, I looked at the jets one. An amazing amount of 'footage' and aound for that small a file. I'm amazed at the compression !!! - TJ

bikermouse ( ) posted Tue, 10 September 2002 at 10:51 PM

bikermouse ( ) posted Tue, 10 September 2002 at 10:54 PM

L.D., if I recall correctly, Media Player is up to 6.9 now, as I upgraded yesterday. You might check with MS on that. - TJ

Bobasaur ( ) posted Tue, 10 September 2002 at 10:58 PM

With a good compositing program, or even just working smart by placing a still image on a moving plane behind your animation you can really expand what you do. Moving stills are a wonderful thing and are often a lot easier to aquire than moving footage.

All,

Well I don't know about this html stuff. I got a free website at angelfire but I'm having trouble finding the code which will allow me to display animation on it.
so . . .
If you're really interested here's the URL. It's just the intro to Harry Teaches Kung Fu and my first animation on the web. You will probably end up downloading the zip file as I say I'm not sure I got the
code right to allow you to view it on the web.

It's short about six seconds ... but ...
If it's any good I'll try to update it with some exercises
taught by Harry or somebody else. Harry is Gerald Day's character, so we'll see if he can be replaced by someone mouseier as time goes by.

-TJ

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 9:52 AM

You got the code right, bikermouse. I was able to click and view both versions of the animation (DivX and MPEG) in Media Player. The sound seems to be muffled; I'm not sure if that's intentional. I know about Media Player 9, but haven't downloaded the latest versions because a) they won't work in Win98 First Edition, and b) they're bloatware.

Bobasaur ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 2:27 PM

I had no problem with the MPEG using QuickTime on a Mac.

AliasAngel ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 4:56 PM

Well, RL has decided to keep me from playing with Poser, so I'm going to drop out of the battle over the 13 slot. Maybe I'll deck it out for 113 later, who knows.
