Can someone tell me what this is about??? You can see the obvious problem, but the texture map is fine - why the blocky, different colored looking sections of hair in the two P5 render settings?

Perhaps it is a problem with the way the material room imports the P4 transparency settings?

When I rendered with P4 hair i had to change the transparency falloff from .6 to 0 in the materials room.

There's a light on top-- is something somewhere throwing a shadow? Emily

The lighting is Blackhearted's Soft Light global illumination - you can see how each renderer handles it a little differently (most notable in the hair in this image).

I tried your suggestion, Kiera & it didn't pan out for me :(
btw - the hair I'm using is the Elleana hair if anyone else has it and wants to see if it turns out that way for them as well.

Do you have backfacing polygons checked?

Pulled up Anton's hair because it's so versatile & did renders of 3 different styles - long, short & up.

In the long, you can see where firefly seems to be reading the texture map wrong - but it's fine in the P4 render.
In the short, both images seem to be similar - no obvious texure problems in the firefly render.
In the updo, it appears to be okay except in the top wisps (firefly) - P4 render is fine.

And yes, backfacing polygons is/was checked

Try unchecking it.
