Subject: DELIVERY problems from Australia - Airborne & C.L. shipping Dept.

PointLady ( ) posted Wed, 18 September 2002 at 2:07 AM · edited Mon, 16 December 2024 at 9:53 AM

Hi, well I was expecting my Poser 5 today (Wednesday) in Australia. What a mix up it has been with my address printed out on the package. I preordered my copy on August 2lst, finally received my notification from Curious Labs Monday, Sept. 9th it had been dispatched and gave a tracking No and a web link to contact Airborne Express in Sydney, which I did by phone but alas they had not received notification at that time on their computer, and to ring again in two days time. I received a telephone call from Customs on Friday l3th that they had no package for release. I paid via credit card the customs at the same time and the lady said it would be dispatched after the weekend to the couriers who would deliver it to my door. Now I do not live in the Sydney Metropolitan Area as I live south down the coast of New South Wales, so was told it would in my local Town area on Tuesday and to me on Wednesday (today) If this is confusing you, don't forget we live in a different time zone than the Northern Hemisphere. I was fully expecting it to arrive today, but as I had a little drama with my dog who became sick, I need to take him to the vet, so rang Airborne in Sydney to try and find out just which courier service they were using in orded to find out when it would arrive. Airborne gave me the name of a courier service they said they were using. However, a telephone call to them elicited the information they had no record of a package address to me and in fact they did not deal with Airborne. The lady was very helpful however when I explained why I needed to know, so she took my phone No and rang me back with the name and address and contact name of the Courier service they were probably using. I rang them, it was Skynet Couriers, and they had no record either, but gave me the name and phone No of another courier service they use who would probably be delivering the package. Another telephone call to them, and they said they had no manifest for a package to me. So back to Skynet I went and after telling the lady there this, they said they would make enquires and ring me back. Half an hour later, they phoned me back and said that there was a package but the address must be incorrect as the other carrier had tried to deliver the package the day before. Now get this, the big mix-up was they had my Name, street and house number correct, but the suburb was shown as Ormond via Bentleigh. The post code was also correct for where I live. This suburb is in Victoria and I live in N.S.W. I will now get my package tomorrow morning now this mix-up has been sorted out. I took my poor dog to the vet (he will be OK thank goodness, but it was very stressful) and I decided to ring her back and thank her for the help. She told me that this happens all the time with packages with the oddest mix up in addresses. It would have been sent back to CL in the end if I had not of been able to fix up this up, as undeliverable. She also told me that she has requested telephone numbers be included on address labels many times to Airborne (and other shipping companies - but to no avail to avoid mixups. This mixup must have originated in the shipping department of Curious Labs printing out the labels - so if it has happened to me - it must be happening all over the world to others also. My address was correctly shown on CL's email confirmation of dispatch, it just seems to be a problem in the printing of labels for packages. The moral of this sad tale is that there is probably another customer who ordered a copy of Poser 5 who lives in Ormond via Bentleigh, Victoria 3204 who will have their package being tried to be delivered to my suburb, even though their name and street is correct (maybe). So if you read this, please telephone Airborne at Tullamarine Airport in Victoria and sort it out with your shipping No. Curios Labs, if you read this, please include telephone Nos on the package labels, it would help matters considerably too. I wonder how many people who have been expecting their Poser 5 to arrive on their doorsteps - and it has not, this is part of the problem, no matter where you are? Whilst here, I would like to say a thank you to all the fine people here who help with tips and suggestions, for that is how I have learned Poser 4 and this is my first post sort of (I did say something in a reply to a post yesterday, my first post, but that is probably buried anyhow.) I have also emailed CL with this also, I might add. Cheers from DownUnder, Jan

See what you mean by no correction facility in post. I said customs had no package, I meant my, sorry. I might also add that I was told if there is a mix up in your address on one package, anything you order in the future will also have this problem and it should be corrected at the source computer. Cheers from DownUnder, Jan

What you people dont realise that if Skynet has it then its probably been Terminated by now but have no fear, "it'll be back" :)

Fozzibear, It will be delivered to me Thursday (Australian time) don't you just love these time zones, it confuses the hell out of most in the Northern Hemisphere. The lady I spoke to at Skynet (Patsy) was extremely helpful, she tracked the whole mess down, and they deal with Airborne Express here, so she assured me, it was all fixed up now, I will get it in (my Thursday) morning - it has been arranged. She even asked about my dog's problem at the Vets, and was most concerned for me. I just feel it my dog had not had this problem, and I was concerned about being "out" for a time, the package would have arrived and I would not have been home at the time. It would have probably gone back to the Curious Labs as undeliverable if I had not of rang around to track its whereabouts. This whole process took an hour with several long distance phone calls, and at least they did offer to ring me back. I stressed out about my dog becoming sick, so decided to ring to find out when it may be delivered and would not have found out about this whole mess if he had not, and now will have to wait until Friday to find out if he will be OK or have to go back for further treatment. Cheers from DownUnder, Jan

G'day Jan, I just happen to be a fellow aussie. Do hope your dogs gonna be ok. Believe me, I know what its like, i've an 18 year old healer kelpie cross thats getting very frail in her old age. Its getting to that time and I aint looking forward to it, we humans become very attached to our pets.:) The first comment was just my warped sense of humour, apologises if it offended

Hi Jan, This will probably confuse you even more but don't be surprised if your package is actually delivered by someone else. Skynet do not deliver anywhere but Sydney and Melbourne, I believe. I'm in Canberra and mine was delivered by a local courier company - Universal Express. But then again, the same would have happened if Curious labs used Fedex or UPS, but would have just cost more. Good luck! ~Al

I'm also in Canberra. Still waiting for mine.

I have not contacted airborne or whoever... Last I checked the site for tracking (a couple of days ago) mine was still in Sydney. It arrived there last sunday, 15th... I'd give them two weeks to get it to my door south of Perth. I kinda wish I didn't know it arrived in Sydney... cos then I don't have any expectations and could'a been immensely surprised when I happen upon a box sometime before next year lol Is everyone being proactive and contacting them to ask what's up? I just wanted to wait in the hopes they don't make me pay gst. Has everyone had to pay that? Mada said they do spot checks... so they may not spot everyone. ;) Also someone else said you can counter the amount by only allowing gst on the goods (cs and book), not the software license or upgrade license.... but this would require CL to itemise the goods I think...

April, I just this moment (Friday 20th at 1.l5pm) received my copy of P5 from the courier, and saw you Ebot reply to this message in email. I ordered the full version as I originally bought P4 from a software company in Sydney and this must have been around the time of the change to Curios Labs from MetaCreations for it was a half price package at that time as this Co was not going to stock it anymore and were clearing out old stock. I could not remember whether I attempted to register my copy or not at the time, I think I did at MetaCreations, but was not sure if that was still valid, so I bought the full version. I can tell you also I had to pay Duty and GST on it too. Airborne Express told me that I would when I rang them after I received my confirmation of shipping from Curious Labs. This came to GST: $AUS 64.91 and Electronic Entry Fee of $34.52 - totalling $99.43. Don't know if you will if you purchased the upgrade, I think it depends on the amount you paid for it in Aussie dollars. I can also tell you I would have received this package on Tuesday 24th if there had not been a mistake in the address (my name, street and postcode, but a Victorian suburb) on the shipping label. The commercial invoice from Curious Labs included in the documents with the package showed the correct address, just the label was wrong it seems. And it also seems that they involve Custom Dept. who decide about any duty - don't know if you can avoid GST. That is why I tracked mine here as I paid the duty to Customs on Saturday 21st when they rang me. If I had not of, and had the couriers SkyNet chase it up for me, I may not of gotten it at all. It was delivered by an agent of SkyNet by the way who do my area (Nowra.NSW) Hope you get your copy with no drama in Perth, I suppose having to go right across Australia to there, would make a delay. I suggest you ring Airbourne Express in WA who should be able to tell you from your tracking No.and how it will be delivered - or by who - to you, and when. Good Luck, hope it arrives soon. Jan

AprilYSH ( ) posted Thu, 19 September 2002 at 11:11 PM

I got the upgrade which is just under $400 in aussie dollars but Mada said we pay gst on anything over $250 :( so unless we can prove the goods are under $250 by saying the good should only count the cd and book, then we pay gst on the full price! Ouch! How did you find out you had to pay gst and duty? How did customs contact you? I was surprised about this added charge because I'd ordered stuff after the gst came in and I never had to pay it before. So was hoping I get away with it again grin Thanks Jan :)

April, If I were you I'd phone Airborne about it. The number is 02 9693 1566. Mine has been in Sydney since the 13th. I just called Airborne and they said it's been sitting at customs all that time waiting for me to pay duty etc. Customs didn't have my phone number and were apparently happy to wait forever. Now they have the number, they're supposedly going to phone me this arvo to get the payment and then it will be on it's way again.

Hi Ajax and April, To answer - Piranha Customs and Forwarding at Mascot PH: 02 9693 2344, rang me on Friday l3th (I think I originally said Sat.) saying they had my goods and that there was GST payable. Ajax: they had my telephone No. which was on the shipping papers (the Libra International Air Waybill from Airborne Express) sent by Curious Lab. Just my suburb on it was incorrect showing- Ormond Bentleigh, but my name and street address was correct and the correct postcode for me. This suburb just happens to be in Victoria, I live in NSW near Nowra. So April, ring Airborne Express and track your package it might be in Tasmania lol. or sitting in Customs like Ajax's with all the mixup going on. Find out who will deliver it to you also. Airbourne Express told me incorrectly on that also at first. You too Ajax, and if they tell you Skynet Couriers, it might be more than likely it will be an agent for them, mine was. It depends on where you are situated in Canberra. However, the lady (Patsy) at Skynet was wonderful, she found my package's whereabouts for me, incorrect address and all.) PS. I hear John Howard has been having a lovely time playing with Poser 5 at Parliament House in Canberra lol. Good Luck, Jan

Guys, hope to read here on the forum that you got yours too OK. Just tore of the shrinkwap, the manual smells lovely by the way - that new book smell. The box was only 3kg by the way, nothing like the reported phone box size lol. Didn't see any 'bugs' jump out of the box either lol. maybe they are hiding in the manual. Hope I don't have any problem with the activation code stuff you have to go through, just going to try and install now. Hope I have time, I have to go out in an hour. Better do it before Curious Labs take a weekend break and I have to wait until Tuesday. Now get yours too soon, I hope to be able to learn somehow how to use it from this forum - only just got the hang of P4 from lurking around here and other forums. At least we have had time to learn something whilst waiting. Jan

Thanks Ajax. Eek! I shouldn't have procrastinated... sigh It's Friday, I don't know my shipping number cos that email's at home... by the time I get home to make the call they'll be off for the weekend 8/ If they did get my number from CL, they have to call me to get me to pay customs? I didn't know that... I supplied my home number. They'll never get me at home... I'm chained to my desk at work! :P I hope they leave a message. Enjoy your Poser 5 weekend Jan :D

I gave them my home number too. They didn't leave a message on my answering machine though. I got my invoice. It cost $102. They don't give you very good payment options either. I hope you have a fax machine you can use at work.
