Incidentally, I had sent in the trouble report but minus the screenshot ('cause of our awesome firewall rules at school :/ ), serial number and all that are included. And no, I didn't use any crack, hack, or associated crap. I had recently re-installed P5 after a HDD format, and did use the email registration thingy sent by CL. The machine is a Dell Inspiron 8100, 512MB RAM, 1GHz Intel P3-m processor, 20GB HDD, and an Nvidia GeForce 2Go built-in video card. /P
Sorry to hear you're having these problems. Every time I see this sort of thread I'm glad I haven't bought P5 yet. I understand your frustration. It's unfortunate that software companies release faulty products in the first place. It would save the customers so much grief if they worked right from the start without having to use patches and updates that come with their own faults as well. I have a friend who did buy it and she's had nothing but problmes. She hasn't been able to do anything with it since she bought it. So far, she hasn't been able to get one render from it. When you put out a lot of money on something, you expect it to work right. If I buy a kitchen stove, I expect the burners to get hot, not lukewarm. Same with software. I expect it to function as advertised. Melanie
Actually, you'll be happy to know that it isn't frustrating at all - I can still use P5 just fine; I just wanted to know who else may have come across this error. Also, I've worked in IT for eons (I currently teach Comp. Sci. now), so this is nothing new to me. Oh, like nicked shield, I used the full patch, and I also have Win2k installed for my Windoze partition. (it's a dual-boot with Linux) /P
Penguinisto, Not sure from your posts but there was some talk last night that some people, seems to be particularly those on Win2K needed to re-install P5 before the updater would work. You might give that a try. I'm one of the lucky ones I guess, P5 ran OK with only minor problems before the patch, the patch went in flawlessly and I haven't spoted any problems yet. mike
I downloaded the 2 patches, installed them and everything was worse :( So I did a go back to before the patch. Everything was rendering slower, and then I had windows popping up all over the place!

I don't think a re-install is the problem. An up dater should work, remeber updating p4 to 4.03 ? Run it and it worked. The system I'm running is an Asus p4B MB @1.6g, 512MB ram (next week going to 1g), Nvidia GeForce2 100 32MB ram all under w98se. Unlike the other gentleman who teaches CS i've been playing with them since 1975-Heathkit H8, if you all remember them, the only pc on the market. Back to subject, I even tried the Python decompress on the crz files to see if it made a difference, maybe the installer wanted to see a cr2 instead. No luck there either. Nickedshield
I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.
Mystic The application portion of the full installer apparently worked, had a figure I created using the face room saved in my library, and from other threads, could not alter again. After the patch I could. Watch when you install if it takes the crz files. For fun, after you're up and running load Judy with hair, coonform the p5 bibkini3 and then go to the face room. I tried and go an error that it was not a P5 figure. It would be interesting to see if I was the only one to encounter this. Nickedshield

Sharen, I just tried what you did: complete re-install then the full updater. Turned off everything- firewall etc. Now the bloody thing went in clean! Twenty years working with software and I've never seen anything as fickle as this but it works now. Nickedshield

Well, since I posted to this message, I opened poser again, and rendered Don guess what the figure was black! even in the material room even though it said his textures were loaded, so I decided to uninstall and reinstall poser5, and the patches, and all is well, except it still seems to render slower. Q how do I re-initiate file compression?
