Quick render in Poser 4 with default lights, wanted to check out the new foreground tool that I picked up the other day. I am VERY pleased with this product! Even elves get thirsty. Marque

Marque, is this the foreground tool from 3dmodelz?

I had often peered through the keyhole in the large garden gate, hoping to catch a glimpse of the occupants inside....little did I dream it would be an elf! Love this tool. Marque

Yes it is, I just love it! Marque

Where did you all get this tool? Sharen

mon1alpha ( ) posted Wed, 09 October 2002 at 6:23 AM

It's 3dworldz foreground tool and it's on sale for a ridiculously low price in the market place! I, myself, am an expert as I bought it a week ago LOL

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 09 October 2002 at 7:37 AM

Grab it Sharen you'll love it. Haven't tried it in P5, have you mon1alpha? Marque

dialyn ( ) posted Wed, 09 October 2002 at 7:51 AM

I bought it too but haven't used it. I am also interested to hear if it works or doesn't work in Poser 5 (or what would cause it not to work in Poser 5). Thank you for posting the lovely graphics...it may encourage me to get back to the important work of playing this weekend. :)

PabloS ( ) posted Wed, 09 October 2002 at 8:33 AM

I went and looked at it in the MP. Is this a tool or a transmapped square prop placed in front of your scene? As for p5, I noticed there's have a pro-pack version that would probably be the one to get.

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 09 October 2002 at 9:08 AM

I just tried it in Poser 5 and the transparencies either don't work or I don't know how to use them yet. 8^) It is a square prop placed in front of the camera. I didn't know P5 had a pro-pack version? Do you mean P4? Marque

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 09 October 2002 at 9:10 AM

It comes up asking for the transparency map as well as the regular map when I load it into P5. I don't know enough about the texture room to figure out how to use it so I'm just using in in P4 right now to get my projects done. Marque

Jackson ( ) posted Wed, 09 October 2002 at 9:25 AM

file_26722.jpg

To anyone interested, the Foreground Tool works fine in P5 (see pic). If it can't find the textures, that's because P5 is looking in the same folder the prop is in. Simply navigate to the Textures/3dModelz/Foreground Tool and select the proper texture. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll post screen shots. Also, in P5 using the P4 renderer it works immediately. But if you're going to use FF, go to the Matrials room and change Transparency Falloff to zero. And you probably already know this, but the props are set up right in front of the Main camera. Oh, and in P5 you won't see the transparency for the prop like you do in P4, but it's there. If you put something behind the prop you will see the transparency. Whew.

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 09 October 2002 at 10:25 AM

Ok, it was looking in the prop library for the jpg's who knows why?? lol Marque

pokeydots ( ) posted Wed, 09 October 2002 at 10:30 AM

Ok, I just noticed when the tool loaded, it says master filter, in the props, it says Binocs (binoculars?) When you look in the material room it says master filter_ preview then when you click on dropdown it says binocs, and the texture is what ever item you selected for the foreground, colums, plants etc. Is that what its suppose to do? Or is something not loading? Textures are here C:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser4Runtimetextures3dmodelz-tex3dmodelz-foreground-tool

Hold on, i'll go do some screen shots. Marque, I don't know about everything, but I have to go texture hunting quite often in P5. I imagine if you put the textures in with the props you wouldn't have to, cuz that's where P5 is looking. Are you guys rendering through the Main camera? In P5 you can't see it at all until you render. If you're rendering thru a different camera, it might be out of view.

pokeydots ( ) posted Wed, 09 October 2002 at 10:49 AM

Ohh I figured mine out, boy am I a dummy! lol If I move the master filter on the z trans dial it works! I guess I just didn't have it moved close enough to show up! some one slap me for being so dumb!

Nice job, Pokeydots, although I never had to move anything, just made sure I was using the Main camera. Oh well, whatever works. Here's the screen shot just in case there are others having trouble. This of course would apply to anything for which Poser couldn't find the texture. And, of course, you'd have to know where the texture is in order to navigate to it.

pokeydots ( ) posted Wed, 09 October 2002 at 12:51 PM

Thanks Jackson :) Maybe I had to move it because I don't have p5 open to default state? But at least I know how to fix it now ;) Thanks you for the help!

Blimey!

Firstly, thank-you Marque for your rather enthusiatic introduction to this thread, really glad to hear you like it.
Now, with regard to Poser 5.....as most of the people who have posted are aware, we are in England, and Poser 5 didnt start shipping to Europe until the 18th September, and at current exchange rates, it's going to cost us just over $600, which we will be taking up with Curious Labs as to why it's over $250 more expensive in Europe. So, bearing in mind that all 3 of us have day-jobs, families, responsibilities, and that 3dmodelz is only a part time thing, we simply cannot afford to lay our hands on P5 yet. However, we have been working with CastleDev Group (thanks Lynn and Debra), who have given us enough information about Poser 5 for us to start working towards updating both the Foreground Tool and WorldZ, so they work in P5 the same as they work in P4.
About the Foreground Tool in general, Jackson is quite correct, the filters are parented to the Main Camera. We felt this to be the best way of applying them, rather than have the end user have to position them to a camera, which had us scratching our heads for a couple of days. The reason there are two versions is that the cameras are positioned slightly differantly in P4 and Pro Pack. A slight movement along the z-trans, backwards and forewards may sometimes be necessary for layering multiple filters-if opened in their default positions, they all try and occupy the same space. Pokeydots, about the Master-Filter question, thats a small oversight on our part (hangs head in shame). The prop itself is fairly straight-forward, the bits that required hard work were the positioning and of course the textures and trans-maps. As such, we just cloned one prop and set it up differantly according to the respective filter effect. Mon1Alpha, the reason for our ridiculously low prices is due mostly to our backgrounds. We are pleased that people think enough of our products to buy them, and that they appear to like them. But we are always aware that people are parting with their hard earned cash, and we would be devastated if anyone felt they hadn't got their money's worth for any of our products.

As soon as we get a copy of Poser 5, we will be going overtime on checking both The Foreground Tool, and WorldZ, and if an updated version is necessary, or even a Poser 5 specific version, then we will contact everyone who has bought these products, and ensure any updated versions are available to you at no charge.

But, honestly, I made that from scratch, I never even paid attention to your ad pic (sorry). Wierd. You're welcome Lapis and Pokeydots. Sorry about the above pic, I had no idea it'd turn out so big. You stated: "It finds the texture just can't find the trans for it. I loaded arch3 and it asked me for it and I found it and it loaded it. Then it asks for arch-3-tran.jpg and it is not in the same subdirectory as the other jpg's" The regular textures and the transparencies are in the same directory. If it asked you for the trans after you picked the texture, I'd bet you selected the png file that's in the props directory (arch3.png), not the jpg file that's in the Textures directory. Look at the extension when you're loading it and see.

Lapis ( ) posted Wed, 09 October 2002 at 8:35 PM
