Subject: Problem with duplicated obj

ziggie ( ) posted Sun, 27 October 2002 at 3:40 PM · edited Thu, 01 August 2024 at 7:48 PM

I have modelled a right hand (foot) sock in Carrara 1 for use in Poser 4. I export it into Poser, position and scale it and re-export into Carrara. I duplicate with symmetry to get the left sock and export into Poser. But no matter what I try I keep getting a right sock. Any help much appreciated.

There's probably a more sophisticated way to do this, but I just export the duplicated object as dupe.obj, then import to Carrara again and now it's a new object with the desired symmetry.

Agreed mateo... there's no problem there... the problem is when I open a duplicated object in Poser, it reverts to it's original (before duplication) form. :(

It should work right in Poser after you re-import it to a new file in Carrara, then re-export it as leftsock.obj.

Thanx again mateo... yes I do the same... but still original obj when imported into Poser. I think the problem is that I am exporting the obj from Carrara with local coordinates switched on. If I save with local coordinates switched off, it works fine, but then I have to go through all the hassle of rescaling and repositioning the object in Poser. I was hoping the obj would import into Poser in its duplicated state, then I would just have to make a single (move it left) adjustment. It would be so much easier if there was a mirror or flip action in Poser, but as far as I am aware there isn't one.

Try going into the modeling room in Carrara with the sock. Make a small edit, then undo it. If you then export, I think it will reset the coordinates to where they were in Carrara. Good luck!

Thanx bluetone.... tried that, but no joy. It gets weirder by the minute..! I just tried this: Kept the original right sock in Carrara. Duplicated with symmetry so I had a right and left sock. Grouped both socks and exported in local coordinates into Poser . I end up with 2 socks... hurraay! 2 right socks that is... boooo! Both socks in the same position, one on top of the other.
