Subject: This is a "learning site" right? What are we learning, please?

now, i know that curious labs wanted a more "professional" site, and render, being a money making, grabbing, grubbing, worshipping, entity, bowed quickly to that request. i know that this is now a "learning" site. i was told by an admin in email. i'm just wondering what we're all learning, however. oops...i take that back. in the poser forum folks are learning to deal with the blue screen of death on renders they spent 57 hours setting up. and, they are learning to SMILE while they do it. in the poser gallery they are learning how to get your whole psp list to vote you into the hot 20, time and time again, by giving them links to renderosity artwork that can be tubed and made into common domain shareware stuffies....yeah, i can't think this word in english, sorry. in this forum we are learning about business betrayals, and, how not to softshoe around them. we don't have to learn anger. most of us already can do that trick on our ponies. we don't have to learn mistrust. if any of us were pure and trusting 9-11 did that in. we need to learn that 3d life is not all about poser. any old version of poser will "pose" your figures. there are a number of new programs out there for texturing and rendering. some are sweet, and, a few are sweet and free. and, i have heard that daz's new program...started right about the time when daz/cl began to fall into heavy disagreement, and renderosity, opting for the bigger company's "favors"...a courtesan, of sorts, if you will, abolished the c&d. well, the daz program is supposed to be one sweet application...not vaporware as renderosity would like you to think. back in the old c&d days, i would brag that i did not sell here. i still can. to my mind, from the beginning, renderosity, while fun to participate with, was a whore in tattered finery. nothing has really changed, as i see it. only, more folks can see what i saw from my first week.

I've learned that people can leave forever and never come back............ Several times. My theroy is the web is actually a large Token Ring Network in God's personnel office. People try to leave but eventually end up going in a circle ending up right back here.

/me waves at Popster! Worry m'lady... R'osity now has competition in the forum department - from PP, to Animotions, even from our little Faeriewylde... they will either sink or swim, but it will be up to them if they can adapt and survive, not us. As for their store? I certainly wouldn't treat my own bread and butter as they have, as creatures barely tolerated, easily dismissed and more easily belittled... all under a barrage of being told exactly "what is good for them." However, it is their perogative to make these decisions, and will be their blame, especially when the day comes that folks realize the big "R" suddenly ain't so big anymore. There are bigger things looming m'dear, and God willing, we'll both be there to see it all happen. Now if you would be so kind as to not bogart all the popcorn... :p /P

Penguinisto ( ) posted Tue, 05 November 2002 at 7:26 PM

err, "worry not m'lady"... damnable typoes! You see what happens when I run on a popcorn deficit? :) /P

Spiritbro77 ( ) posted Tue, 05 November 2002 at 7:30 PM

Well Ive learned that Renderositys owners and Admin. Dont care one bit for what the MEMBERS of this site think or feel. Secret bannings, Locked threads, droping the C&D forum, changing the nomination process for AOM because they were pissed about who won, censorship of artwork, unequal enforcement of the rules and TOS, and now breaching contracts with merchants by violating an agreement they entered into. What a great business model. They start fires and then pour gasoline on them. Sheesh.

Poppi ( ) posted Tue, 05 November 2002 at 7:54 PM

There are bigger things looming m'dear, and God willing, we'll both be there to see it all happen. Now if you would be so kind as to not bogart all the popcorn... i'm working on a few pretty sweet, imo, fantasy critters 'n such...and, yes, i do believe bigger things loom out there. as for the popcorn...i HAVE to share with my little pal Poppibird...otherwise, he will scream all night at the unfair treatment. so, i eat for two. I've learned that people can leave forever and never come back............ Several times. scott...yes, but those were the drama queens. they learned early on that if mom bought them toys the other kids wanted to play with, they could just be b**chy and run off the playground with them at any time. folks/kids like this did not have any real friends. they had friends that their parents paid for. however, in my opinion, ways of dealing with others in childhood carryover to adulthood. these drama queens you don't have to worry about, really. more, you need to worry about the ones with a geeky streak. some folks really are proud of their principles. some folks count that over money, even friends. these are the folks who will pull out forever. and, their friends and fans will follow. the mediocre artists here will just go..."doh" and, your market will be even more kmart. does anyone really want that? afterall kmart is in bankruptcy. this site needs more for poser users than the market and the forum to attract. you don't have a draw, at this point, that is any better than the draws at other sites. and, you got rid of c&d....hey man, the chit chat factor is IMPORTANT when waiting for the 57 hour render of your latest masterpiece to get DONE already.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Tue, 05 November 2002 at 8:30 PM

Ah, forgot about the bird... but next time, you get to run the next batch! And yeah - I hear you on having a place to run yer keyboard while waiting for stuff... my film scanner gives me 10 minutes at a time, and one can only preview negatives in a lightbox for so long :) /P

Poppi ( ) posted Tue, 05 November 2002 at 8:53 PM

and, peng...that's what this place is good for. browsing, during that endless whatever we need to do to get it done. this place is "hang time", for many of us that deal, and make money in the real world. there is a middle eschelon of artists, here...that want this place to unwind, at night...and, perhaps, if it isn't too tacky to sell, here. i never wanted to sell, here. i have my own strategies...they work. for me. in my world. i am saddened, but, not surprised, at this latest turn in policies.

They changed it from World Wrestling Federation to World Wrestling Entertainment after they got sued by the World Wildlife Federation. I have learned some good methods and ideas in the Poser Forum and the Carrara Forum, so I value this website. I learned to ignore the grade-school antics of many web-users before I got here. Why dwell on the negative, the lowest common denominator?

Bobasaur ( ) posted Tue, 05 November 2002 at 10:34 PM

Mateo, I didn't know that. I haven't kept up with the WWF - I mean WWE (been spending too much time here I guess). Please don't tell me Hulk Hogan retired - that would be almost as bad as losing Doc. Legume. p.s. I love the learning and idea sharing as well!

JohnRender ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 8:42 AM

I've learned that posts in the "Poser Forum" may or may not be removed if they are not relevant to Poser. I post a message about using Poser for adult images and it gets moved to the OT forum. People post messages (in the Poer Forum) about scripting HTML and when Lord of the Rings will be out on DVD... and those messages never get moved. I've learned that this site is a business and may or may not do things in the best interest of the people. I'm learning that some of the people subscribe to the "act now, explain later" theory, especially when it comes to making rules about merchants (who, the last I checked, made money for the site). Then again, once Render partners with CL's Content Paradise, the extra sales from the top merchants' stuff will be more than enough to cover the loss of the low-selling merchants. As long as the top sellers are kept happy, this place will still make money for the owners.

sorry for going off on you mab... didn't get what you meant before. Thought it was aimed at me :) Still goes for the rest of the suckups though :) I just don't do suckup very well... it just annoys me because suckups bit me so badly in my work before. I know its all so desperately fake. And the ones that will find out that the hard cruel way are the admins and mods that fall into that lull of believing you are more than you are... because that's the lull that suckups do to you in these situations. I feel for them in a way, but not enough to lose any sleep over it. I'll be here for a hearty 'told you so' after its allll over :)

I've learned how to clone myself so I can be a part of all the rest of the clones here, including the administration itself that likes to dabble with cloning to say things they can't say as themselves. I've learned that bribery works, give the members a freebee goodie and they will easily forget their whole purpose of why they had any issues here. I've learned that hiding my head in the sand till bad stuff goes away works; many members are already doing that and suggesting others do it too, and the staff here do it on a regular basis. I've learned that if I have a name that starts with a "T" I have more purpose here than anyone else and folks better listen to me even if it doesn't make much sense. I've learned that the folks that could care less about even their own ethics and morals do win after all, simply because they happen to "own" everything and the rest of us have no say even if we may be have the slightest of a point. I've learned that people will force you to practice what they preach but won't necessarily practice that same preaching themselves, because they are above all that and way mightier than you are, because they have the power over you by way of coding; get that straight. Yes Poppi, this is a learning site after all, see? Problem is, I always thought it was supposed to be about learning 3D art; I have since learned that even that is a fantasy learning experience because that dream went the way of the flying buck and who can catch it from whom the sneakiest way imaginable.

pipp ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 4:34 PM

Don't tempt them slynky, "pay" seems the a magic word here; the manipulator of puppet strings; entire ideas here are based on the word "pay" as the principle foundation of creation; problem is they might just give you a starring role wearing the renderosity "kick me hard" sign. I learn quickly; perhaps because I also carry a sign that says "smack me for being a gullible fool."

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking.  He apologizes for this.  He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

"this site needs more for poser users than the market and the forum to attract" Frankly, while I have nothing against Poser at all, I'm tired as hell by this site being by, for and about Poser users. If it isn't for Poser you can't sell it, and chances are they won't even put it in the store, no matter how hard you worked on it. When did those of us who use other programs become second and third class citizens around here? I have to wade through 100 crappy poser renders to find one genuine piece of art here. Amazingly, once in a while someone does a piece of art in Poser, but it's rare. And if you put up a render you busted your ass on in another program, you're lucky if you get 3 or 4 comments, one of which is liable to be insulting these days.

Talent is God's gift to you. Using it is your gift to God.
