Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 02 5:01 am)
Dons his best Ed McMan voice Yes, you are correct, sir (or mam.) DAZ and CL had a very ugly and rather publicized parting of the ways over inclusion of Mike/Vickie into P5. DAZ even announced that it would not sell P5 products until the EULA was amended. It has also announced its future presentation of a potential rival modeller to Poser. However, fortunately (for all involved, esp. us) the companies recently hammered out a deal over the the EULA and are talking now. Cross your fingers and let's all hope for the best. --lb
Ed McMahon was for alomst 30 years the cohost (with Johnny Carson) of the Tonight Show -"Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeres Johnny!" then late did a ton and a half of "you may be a winner" commercials.

The issues between the two companies are related to, but go beyond the EULA, to encompass fees for making Vickie and Mike compatible with the face room, and DAZ's development of 3D software. The principals at both places were supposed to have a telephone call recently to see whether or to what extent some of these issues could be resolved. There has not been, AFAIK, news about how that phone call went, but that does not surprise me and may in fact be a good thing, as diplomacy often requires privacy. I have endeavored to state the above as neutrally as possible, as this is a topic that tends to spawn lengthy and quite opinionated threads. If serene or anyone else wants more in-depth info on this topic, it should suffice to note that if you run a search on the forum for words like "EULA," "PoserPros" or "competing," you will almost certainly come across extensive debate over these issues. I am hoping against all experience that everyone will not feel compelled to repeat the debate yet again. Y'see, I'm on a dial-up connection, and it can take 30 sec. to a minute to page past that type of thread...and I'm always tempted to peek, just in case there's some new info. So please, if you don't have new info, could we skip the incredible exploding thread this time around?
Do a search on this topic and you'll find the answers (that is what the search button is for). CL wanted $30,000 (each) to include Vicky and Mike in Poser 5. DAZ didn't pay, so they split up- no more DAZ content in P5. Yes, Vicky and Mike will work as normal figures, but they can't take advantage of any of P5's "features" (Face Room, Dynamic Hair, Setup Room). Of course, it can be argued that no models take advantage of these these features since so many people have problems with it.

Sorry if this has been question has been posed (sic) before, but searching the forums hasn't really given me an answer- Why is there no new Daz/Zygote content included with Poser 5? Has there been some commercial spat? There are not even any links through the "content" tab... The new Judy and Don models are fine, but not a patch on the quality of Zygote products, lacking much of their realism. I will continue to use Daz/Zygote products, but was a little surprised to find none included with my shiny new copy of P5. Pre-emptive thanks to anyone who replies! Serene
