Subject: .DXF Architectural Program For Poser Import

The title about says it all. I am looking for one of those "home design" programs that will allow me to design rooms, houses, etc. and export it to a useable .dxf file for eventual Poser and Bryce imports. I tried Broderbund's 3-D Home Design Suite and it is useless. The .dxf export is in a format that must be "translated" or something by a CAD program. Any help would be appreciated. On second thought, I guess the title didn't say it all. ;)

The only one I know of that does what you're wanting is Floorplan 3D. Its 3D viewing system lets you export standard DXF 3D models. Haven't used it in a while, so I don't know if they even sell it any more.

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

try DesignWorkshop at www.artifice.com. The lite version is only $9.95, the professional is a bit more. As easy a 3-D architectual modeler as they get, and very powerfull too.

I bought Sierra Complete Home version 2.0 for a similar purpose. My notes to myself tell me that it exports DXF with no textures. I'm a little hazy on it's capabilities because I uninstalled it right away because the quality of its AVI generation was awful. I could reinstall and play around with it's DXF export if you'd like more info.

Auto Cad 97 Lt is a good dxf generator also.....it should have gone down in price since 2000 was released. Look around at your local Best Buy or Comp USA or some such in the Home Design section, they'll have tonsof stuff

Floorplan 3D also exports without textures. So far, I haven't found a way to get anything into poser except by exporting each individual element by itself and then reassembling it all once I have it in Poser. There's gotta be a better way. Kate

The .dxf file standard does not support exporting textures. Your better off using another format if you want to keep tex info. Poser is terrible for importing files. Your best bet is to use some type of file translator after designing the house then using Bryce to do the textures. Use another format like 3ds, 3mf or obj to keep the object separate.

Well, I tried the Sierra Architect 3.0. It does export in 3D dxf format. No textures. That would not have been a problem, but, since the model exports as a single, unbreakable group, I cannot ungroup so as to add textures inside Bryce or Poser. There has to be a way. I am no modeling expert obviously, but, there has to be a way. If someone can think of it, I would be most appreciative.

It may be more trouble than it's worth, but you might as well just build your house out of primitives in Bryce. That is what I do for anything that is not too complex like curved walls. I've gotten so good at doing this, I've made detailed castles and medieval cities in Bryce alone. A house shouldn't be too tough.
