Subject: Conforming Clothing Question

evr ( ) posted Tue, 03 December 2002 at 9:48 PM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 8:42 AM

I am not sure if this has been covered here before, so please forgive me if I'm bringing up an old issue. Here's the question.

I have created a character by modifying the proportions of Vicky (not through morphs, I changed the scale of individual body parts - I'm trying to make her look less human). I have modified some clothing items in the same way. When I pose Vicky and apply the modified clothing, the joints in the clothing item are in the wrong place (the clothing item 'breaks' at the joints). If I pose the clothing separately, and then manually place it on Vicky, it works fine. Any ideas why this would be?

Thanks,
evr

It could be that the conforming clothing is default back to the original default settings. If you rescale an outfit to fit your modified Vicki, use the memorize:figure command from the menu to make the new scale settings the default. You can then save the item to the Library. When you load it again and conform it to Vicki it should fit the same as it did before (that is if it worked after you scaled it to fit, it will work once you memorize those settings for the clothing figure).

Unfortunately, I cannot get it to fit once I scale it. I've been messing around with the joint parameters, but that does not seem to do it (or at least I can't find the right combination). It definitely has something to do with how conforming works.

The conform thing is highly overated in my opinion anyway ;o).....since they addeed the conforn feature creating a cr2 is a long drawn out process of resetting joints coz the thing moves after conforming....where as in poser 3 you just added the figure posed it, hit a pose dot, added the clothes then hit the pose dot again..the clothes fit the figure AND can still be scaled and adjusted...seeems to me adding conform to poser 4 was like using a mel hammer to knock a panel pin in :o)...sorry for rambling i guess i'm saying just use a pose dot its a better way anyway ;o)......Steve

hmmm i have had this problem as well. but it only really shows up when it ry to move the characters pose, then all kinds of things occur. Hmmm conforming foranything other than the std figure YUCH!!

I have this problem too on an alien character I have with disproportionally long legs. As annoying as the extra step is, I'm going to second Steve and say forget conforming, use the Parent-and-Pose trick.

smooh ( ) posted Wed, 04 December 2002 at 6:47 AM

its the legs with you too ahe!! that is where i have the problem, Does work a lot better and will you need to repose when you repostion the figure? sorry Evr for sorta hijacking your topic. hopefully this will help you as well. i think a lot of people have this problem. i asked Daz about it and they didnt suggest the parent pose method! ho hum

steveshanks ( ) posted Wed, 04 December 2002 at 7:19 AM

oops i forgot the parent bit :o) thanks FyreSpiryt ...Steve

smooh ( ) posted Wed, 04 December 2002 at 7:24 AM

a really silly question but do you have to parent every part of say jeans to the base figure, eg right and left thights to the same.. or do you just parent the clothing item to one part????

steveshanks ( ) posted Wed, 04 December 2002 at 7:36 AM

its a figure parent so just go figure/set figure parent and use the hip...Steve

evr ( ) posted Wed, 04 December 2002 at 8:15 AM

Thanks all, I hadn't thought of parenting the clothing to the character. That's should save me a lot of work.

heyas; after you put the clothing through the contortions (limb scaling), MEMORIZE it. then when you conform it, it won't go back to its memorized defaults. cuz you'll put in new memorized defaults. memorizing is the key. this won't work for body scaling, that will always be 100%, so conform it first, then if you need to scale the body, scale it after you conform it. if you put it on, then move your figure, and parts start to not fit so hot, you can adjust the scaling and the posing of the conforming clothing to get it stuck on better. after you do that, memorize it again. (you should also use the symmetry left to right or right to left first, so both sides fit the same.) but it's not an exact science.

The problem is, when I do that, the feet fall out of alignment as I pose. Even after memorizing and making sure IK is off on both figures. Involves a lot of handwaving and magic words either way. Or percussive maintainence and cursing, your choice. ^_~
