Lyrra ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 10:21 PM

Should we have a warning on the forum that Dan Farr and Kupa hang out in here? grin Image looks good. The balance of the pose bothers me though, with both feet turned out, she 'feels' a little off balance. I'd straighten up the foot on the left a little. Welcome to the madhouse! Lyrra

pdxjims ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 10:28 PM

Boy! You done good for a first posting! Nice work! Post it be prepared for all the comments. And Kupa doesn't bite, he just growls once in a while (grin - just kidding - Kupa and Dan are both pretty cool). Keep it up!

KBran1 ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 10:36 PM

OK, feeling sheepish here, who is Dan Farr? and thank you Lyrra, posing is still new to me, so the feet straighting might take me a while. also, what mad house? ut oh...All I see are wonderful artists making beautiful art! Thank you all ! Kath

DefaultGuy ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 11:46 PM

Lawndart ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 12:05 AM

Uh... I su-render... oh..oH... OH! That was BAD! Nice first post. Thumbs up Now back into my foxhole... Lawny

hauksdottir ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 12:37 AM

Somebody is going to be rendered helpless, but not that maiden. :innocent whistle: I agree with Lyrra. The foot on the left (her right foot) should be straightened, otherwise her hip and knee would have to turn more, and they are best left where they are. I'd also be tempted to roughen up the floor plane a bit (Dr Geep has just posted a great tutorial on using the wave deformer) so that she'd be rising out of the darkness, but there are times when simplicity is best. From the male reaction, you are succeeding in rev'ing a few engines. ;^) What did you render in? Carolly

KBran1 ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 1:07 AM

I rendered in poser 4. I am having trouble turning the legs without messing up the hips! Is there a tut on how to do this?

Lawndart ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 1:21 AM

Try rotating the little section between the hip and the leg. I can't recall the name of the body part right now but it is there right next to the crotch on each leg. Lawny

hankim ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 4:04 AM

I believe the mysterious body parts LawnDart is searching for are "buttocks" *grin

3-DArena ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 7:18 AM

Kbran nice work there for a newbie! Try turning the IK off as well if you are having trouble with lower body poses. Dan Farr is the president of DAZ :-D

KBran1 ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 10:11 AM

OK, I lookded, now why do they all look so young! Feeling the age here.

ScottA ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 10:41 AM

Well............ Most of them graduated from Bring em' young. :O) I never saw that page before. "Poser conversion Technician"? That must make me a Poser Technologies Specialist. ;-) ScottA

sirkrite ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 10:55 AM

Because they are Kath ;) But some of us are not so young. Turning the IK chains off for the legs helps allot sometime when posing. At the bottom of the display you will see two menus, select the figure your posing and then select the body. Then on the top bar click on Windows and from that menu select Hierarchy Editor. A Pop up window will appear, scroll down it to find the legs and click on the boxes next to right leg and left leg. That will turn off the IK chains for the legs. Then close that pop up. Now you will be able to work the legs the same as the arms, another words when you select the thigh on the figure and move the Bend dial, it will bend the thigh up or down. Unlike before where you had to move the foot to do it. It works better in some cases. You can also do the opposite for the hands if you want to move the hand and have the arm follow.

Hiram ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 11:47 AM

Ouch!! Wouldn't her pubes get caught in those little chains? ; ) Seriously, Kath, that's a great first offering. You may want to render at a larger size to post in the gallery though. It would be nice to get a better look at her. Welcome!

RHaseltine ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 1:06 PM

You can also select the figure and go to the Figure>Use Inverse Kinematics menu and untick the legs.

KBran1 ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 1:19 PM

Oui, this sounds complicated. How did you folks ever learn all this? The manuel in my poser doesnt have these specific instructions. I still have to figure out what the animation section is all about. I do thank you for these suggestions and am going to try them out. Thank you all :)

sirkrite ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 1:32 PM

Asking questions, reading tutorials, trail and error, reading others questions in here that have been answered and by trying to help others out. :) You can find some tutorials in the Tutorials section, there is a link at the top on the page. Also some have Tutorials on other web sites.

KBran1 ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 1:39 PM

thank you SirKrite :)

sirkrite ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 1:45 PM

Hmmm? Been using Poser for over two years and somewhere along the line I forgot about the Use Inverse Kinematics menu there. :

3-DArena ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 2:08 PM

kbran turning on & offing IK is in your manual - page 112 learning about IK starts on 111 IK in animation is on page 207 but there is a large animation section in the glossary of the manual - That should help a bit - me I don't touch animation - no way no how lol

Page 111. I have alot of reading to do. Also, what is the difference between poser 4 and 5? should I have bought poser 5?

3-DArena ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 3:41 PM

I think that purchasing P5 at this point is a personal choice - many love it others (myself included) won't touch it a this point. I'd suggest reading up on seeing if the major issues that would concern you have been dealt with and making your decisions based on those - rather than personal recommendations. I had people recommend it to me only to turn around and reinstall P4 and tell me they were sorry for recommending it. I simply keep an eye on the sr beta forum here to see what issues are still present and if it's worth it to me - currently it isn't. Maybe someday it will be.
