Subject: Figuring out Poser imported into C4D 7.3 ART

Hi....I've searched some old posts and looked up other references to find mostly more confusion. I could use a little help here and it would be much appreciated. I'm new to Poser and still learning C4d. I want to bring posed and textured Daz Vicki and Mike and derivative figures from Poser 4.03 into C4d 7.3 ART. I don't want animation - only want to use my C4D ART to otherwise model and render with high res poser figures in architectural scenes. I do not have Poser Pro Pack and don't want it unless I really need it. (I've read that it does not work with C4D ART anyway...) How is this done and do I need any other import/export - file sorting - utilities to accomplish my still renders? Thank you very much, Archrendr

You could do it basically by exporting your scene from Poser as .obj and importing that into C4D. You'll then have to load all of the textures into the materials. A tedious task, but achievable. With this method, no inbetween utilities necessary.

Hi! Poser and C4D Art is a great team up. It could be something easier but it works quite fine for me... :-) 1. Export your figure from poser as wavefront-obj file. Exclude everything in the hierarchy editor you don't really need. 2. Set the import/export settings in C4D for Wavefront to scale factor 400 (depends on what you want to do, but 400 works great for me) 3. Import the previously saved wavefront file. you will see one or more objects in the object manager, please group them into one new group -> makes life easier when moving the complete figure around. You will also notice a lot of new materials. 4. The materials are all standard grey. No textures are there. Now comes the working part. yawn. :-( copy all the textures you need from the poser texture directory into the actual/project/tex subdirectory for easier management (you don't have to do this, but makes life easier). then you have to assign all textures to each material, for example skinb is the bodyskin, skinh the bodyhead. if you're unsure what to place where, you can check them in poser the texture settings. you can be very fast after doing this for some time... ;-) 5. one important notice - transparency maps from poser have to be placed in the alpha channel from C4D. 6. You don't need any extra software for this and btw the ProPackPlugin DOES work with C4D Art7 - one little trick is required... :-) Still got any questions? Fredy - Excellent! Just what I am after. Lovely render here too! When I get Vicki (from the mail post in a couple of days I'm going to try this out and I may have to e-mail you if thats OK. this info looks very clear and I'm familiar enough with it that I can probably do it. Again, many thanks. archrendr
