Well THAT'S reassuring! ;-) Thanks for letting me know -- at least I don't feel like a complete idiot now...

Sorry about the delay in responding -- was away from my computer for the weekend. The answer to that would be yes -- I didn't realize that could cause problems. I'll look out for that in the future. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip, but I tried that. It doesn't crash, it just stops calculating. The cloth will run up to the frame where it stopped calculating. I think it does have something to do with the complexity of the mesh -- I tried making a simpler mesh and it ran fine. I guess I'll just have to scale back my ambitions!

It could be -- there are a lot of folds in the object. I didn't save the file so it would take me a while to come up with an image, but it does kind of bunch up. Is there a way to prevent this? Nothing in the mesh intersects itself or the figure, by the way; just a lot of folds...

Thanks for the reply -- that's what I found as well. However, no scaling seems to occur when I type a number in the export scale factor box. In A6, I had no trouble with this; type the number, scaling happens. I thought maybe there was something else I had to have turned on or disabled to make the scaling happen -- and also, this is just labeled EXPORT scale factor, which makes me wonder about IMPORT scale factor. I'm finding this program to be very difficult. I could work so easily in A6, but this version seems to fight me at every step! Any further help would be appreciated...

Well, I'm glad to be in such rarified company! While we're at it, maybe I can impose on you for some more advice. I have a hatch on my spaceship with two door panels that slide open. The door panels are named "airlock 1" and "airlock 2." I have rigged the ERC so that airlock 2 slides open when you open airlock 1; what I was wondering was if there was a way to show only "airlock 1" in the body parts list, and maybe make it show up only as "Airlock." And for that matter, if there's a way to make the "Translation X" dial show up as "Open" instead. I'd appreciate any insight you might have. Thanks!

Wow -- thanks for the prompt reply! Thanks for the figure-naming info -- that will help a lot. As for the rotation, I figured out my problem there -- I was referring to the channel as "rotateX xrot" instead of just "xrot." I changed it and it worked like a charm. Again, I really appreciate the help!
Thread: For the animation gurus... | Forum: Carrara
Can you make a spline object and animate that? You at least can use the bezier curves instead of using bones or endless linked segments...

I haven't used it yet, but HDRI is a Carrara 3 feature, and I believe it is a 'scene: background' option...
Thread: Differnce between Carrara1.1 and 2? | Forum: Carrara
Not only is version 2 more stable, it has additional features, like bones and global illumination. Get it, then upgrade to 3; or go straight to three. The beta is terrific -- the real thing should be great!
Thread: Carrara 3 interface improvements. | Forum: Carrara
I have to second Graviton's comments. The whole thing is just... better. And I think they were extremely smart to 'pre-release' it first as a beta. With all the flack other softwares have been getting upon release, it was a very clever move -- the endusers get a reduced price to test it. However, where the other softwares might not have lived up to the hype on final release, Carrara 3 exceeds expectations while still in beta! Thanks Eovia, and if anyone has any doubts about whether the upgrade is worth it, it totally is!
Thread: The Glow Channel | Forum: Carrara
If the glow isn't too bright, it will be washed out in the light areas, but still show in the shadows. For example, if you use a 50% value of the color in the glow channel, the light at 100% should overpower it...
