Thread: Thoughts on Genesis 9 | Forum: DAZ|Studio

Agreed. I don't think it was the best move.
I think DAZ should have kept male and female G9 as separate characters. I think that G9 is having joint bend problems partially due to G9's unisex design.
I'm in agreement too. Putting aside from the politics of the "gender fluid" movement, the male and female anatomy are vastly different. Plus, it only adds to the confusion for assets meant for a male or female character.

What am I working on?
I just bought DM's Steely Curves so I'm doing some renders utilizing it and/or parts from it. I strictly do this for fun and sharing. Working on it while listening to Arturo Sanduval.

Wow, great minds think alike. I just came over here to start a "What are you working on" thread, and I can see you beat me to it. You've put a smile on my face Lobo.
What is your end product going to be? And, are you creating a prop to sell, or is this strictly a personal project.

I'm going to have to agree with the majority of what you've said. It really rubs me the wrong way when you get a banner at the top of your DAZ screen saying, "We have a gift for you", and you click on it and it's noting more than a BOGO offer, or discount based on an expensive purchase. A gift comes as something FREE with no strings attached. If you have to make a purchase, then it isn't a gift. With my background in software engineering this is one of the first things I noticed about Daz Studio when I began using it around Thanksgiving 2021. I mentioned it in at least one of my YouTube videos as well, and I have pointed out the misspelled/duplicate folders to vendors. No standardization, no standards for content pages or documentation, inconsistencies everywhere, effectively no instructions or communications between developers and end users. Many products don't even work after using Daz's own installers, Daz suddenly takes away the "free gift" content they previously gave you and then try to sell it to you, and the largest content folder in Daz Studio is "Lost & Found" - useless junk, which you paid good money for. Daz Studio is just a hodgepodge of fun "stuff" from a bunch of confusing and overlapping generations that is enticing enough to lure people to the Daz Store, where every manipulative sales tactic in the book is used to drain customers' bank accounts, with endless "sales" that ultimately still costs far more than the content is worth. I enjoy creating renders with Daz, but it is a deliberate failure as creativity platform. The free software was never meant to benefit users. It was created to sell content, and nothing more. If it wasn't for non-Daz sites like Renderosity I would have dumped it a long time ago. Daz should be ashamed that a homeless customer knows more about running a competent professional business, more about software engineering, and more about business ethics, than they do. But Daz just doesn't care.
As to Lost and Found in "Smart Content"...
I find stuff in that category that I have to scratch my head and ask why DAZ doesn't fix it in the product folders and meta data. Many times I find it is poser content installed in folders that overlap with DAZ folders (this is my theory). So, I've just stopped letting DIM install Poser content. I'll install it manually and not worry about it not showing in Smart Content.
Going back to my original comment that started this thread...
I'm more irritated about folder names and locations from non-DAZ sources. I manually install a LOT of content and it is a royal pain if I have to rename or relocated downloaded content so it will show up with other products of the same nature. Add to that Apple users that include .DS_Store or PC users that include ANYTHING that is a .INI file.

Good point. Thank you.Lost and Found is a category, not a folder. It is things that don't have a proper category assigned, some because they are oddities (e.g. site links), some because of packaging errors or because they are very old content from products that do not have proper metadata.
Thread: A way to sort by stores that accept coupons. | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
I realize this is an old forum, but it would be nice to have a check box that allows one to filter out products where coupons are void. The red coupon icon is nice, but if Renderosity would like us to use those coupons (and the end result would be more purchases), a check box along with all the others that is simple...
[ ] Show Coupon Eligible Items Only
Of course, the other alternative would be to simply make coupons available on the total purchase - regardless of the item. :)
Brent
P.S. DAZ is WORSE. I got a $5 off coupon, and EVERYTHING I'd add to my cart from my wish list the coupon was void.

Okay, I've done some digging. Perhaps it is the case, and other vendors are creating those folders to store their assets for the 8.1 characters.Per DAZ, there are no 8.1 folders in people.
Frankly, I'm surprised that DAZ WOULDN'T put them in their own folder as you can get yourself jammed up if you try to use a G8.1 asset on a G8 character. The other direction works (applying 8 to 8.1), but you can't get away with apply an 8.1 asset on an 8 character.
Then, 9 comes along and they do away with any gender identification. Uhg.
Thread: File and Folder Best Practices | Forum: DAZ|Studio
That's interesting, because that's where DAZ Install Manager installed 8.1 figures as well as some other assets. For example DAZ's Brook 8.1, Victoria 8.1 and other DAZ purchased products got installed there by DIM.Per DAZ, there are no 8.1 folders in people.

Thread: Please - When Creating Freestuff Conent... | Forum: Freestuff
Oh, I am in complete, 100% agreement with your comment. I've had content folders misspelled, as well as additional junk folders and files added. It's not just freestuff, it also applies to some purchased products.Another pet peeve of mine is the hierarchy issue in many freebie contents. Runtime and crucial DAZ folders shouldn't be nested within a primary vendor or character/prop-named folder, it simply confuses any program-based installer and frustrates new users when they hunt for installed content. I have spent extra time rearranging files/folders within a zip file so that they install correctly. And please, place any documentation into its own-labeled folder within a primary folder called Documentation.
Thread: Smart Content does work when installing from ZIP | Forum: DAZ|Studio
SpookieLilOne posted at 8:39 AM Fri, 2 September 2022 - #4443820That's correct. I wish all vendors would structure .zip files in such a way you could copy the zip file into the ..\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\Downloads and let DIM install them in the off-line (not logged in) mode. It works. I've done it before. Vendors would just have to be more careful about file names and directory structure within the zip file.As long as the product has sutiable metadata and that metadata is added to the database it will appear in Smart Content. Smart Content is not limited to Daz store items, except for the ability to isntall content through Daz Studio.Smart Content is only designed to pull in content purchased through Daz site and linked with your login information.
