You guys should submit bugs to DAZ's bug tracker about scenes that render slower. Otherwise you are just whining uselessly. Make the complaints pay off for the users. Report issues.

Thread: shaders? | Forum: DAZ|Studio
It supports renderman compliant shaders. I think at this point the issue is that no one is using them with DS.
Thread: bryce turbo import plugin | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I don't think the Bryce Demo is a Trial, either. It's save disabled and has watermarked renders.

I don't think the Turbo Importer comes free with the demo. I think the Turbo Importer is also in demo form that comes with the demo.
Thread: Which vid card gives a nice kick in the pants? | Forum: DAZ|Studio
The NVidia cards are always quite safe. ATI has pretty poor support of OpenGL. I have an NVidia FX5950 and I can load in a million polygons worth of models at once and still move around with barely any performance hit. I have textures on almost all those models as well. One reason you may notice slowdowns is if you have a bunch of textures that are 2048x2048 or bigger loading in. Unless you have a lot of RAM on your video card and on your system, you will get to a point where you can't hold anymore textures and your system will suddenly seize up. At that point, it is shifting to virtual memory which is incredibly slow. I actually don't know how a mac handles it when you run out of system and video memory, my experiences are mainly with a PC. Basically, using lower resolution textures will give you a major performance jump. You can use a free program that can run through a folder of images and batch resample or you could do it by hand. I don't think there is a way in DAZ|Studio for you to set the maximum size yourself right now.

Maybe the poser content directory isn't set up. Did you make sure that the poser content was set up as a Poser content directory instead of a studio content directory? Also, I believe you have to select the folder that contains the Runtime, not the actual Runtime itself.
Thread: Attention Fellow Animators: DAZ Mimic 3.0 has been released!! | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Oh, do you mean the issue of Pro versus the basic version of Mimic? If so, I see what you are saying. Sorry if I missed that.

What's wrong with the upgrade price? I believe that if you are a Platinum Club member you save 30%, making it, what, $40?
Thread: How is Daz Studio better than Poser? | Forum: DAZ|Studio
aeilkema, you should read that link more carefully.
The answers posted to your questions came from someone moderating the forum, not a DAZ official spokesperson. That means all your issues with DAZ are based on a person's opinion. Yes, that person is affiliated with DAZ in the sense that they are a moderator on the forum, but they aren't an in-house employee, as far as I know. I believe they are just artists that became affiliated with DAZ and ended up being part of their moderator team when DAZ opened their forums.
As far as I can tell, the only true thing you have based your dislike of DAZ on is that you actually like Vue better than you like Poser, which is completely fair, but doesn't reflect on DAZ as a company one single bit. It only reflects on the product, which DAZ just bought and had nothing to do with past development. The rest appears to be information that you take meaning from and claim it as fact. That is a bit unfair.
You may want to contact DAZ and say that they lost a customer because of some comments by some of their forum moderators. If they validate all the comments, then you have good cause to shun DAZ and go another route completely. If they don't validate the comments, then I would think that you need to seriously consider whether you have a good reason to turn your back on them.
I understand that those that are looking for a Poser killer are disappointed in DAZ|Studio. It appears that it isn't a Poser killer. I don't see DAZ running ads where they say "Switch from Poser to DAZ|Studio and we'll give you $100 cash!"
For those that do want a Poser killer, guess you will have to wait and see what sort of add-ons appear for Studio in the future.
Anyway, write to DAZ. I'm sure all of us here are more interested in fact than the sort of information running rampant in forums.
Thread: Adding Content | Forum: DAZ|Studio
go under the Preferences, Poser directories, and do a search or add them manually. At least, I think that is how you would do it...

"I thought I had taken care of that problem: http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=5680" That's a nice start.

I also think the lack of Python scripts available has much to do with the fact that users have to have Pro Pack not just Poser 4.

And yes, it is understandable for DAZ to build their own app. It would have been beneficial even if Curious Labs wasn't so shaky, though, I would imagine. If that barrier to getting new customers gets removed by having free software, all the new customers have to do is buy content. It seems like a pretty good strategy whether Poser is strong or not. :)
Thread: How is Daz Studio better than Poser? | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I don't actually see how they are creating a Poser 4 like program. People are drawing that parallel, but if a free program that is in it's beta is comparable to Poser 4, then I think that's pretty incredible.
Since the program will be modular, the program could easily (if programmers decide to do it) be expanded to even surpass what Poser 5 does. None of us know for sure if that is what DAZ is planning, though. Maybe they aren't even comparing it to Poser 5 at all and are just trying to create a program that can do all the things they and the community want content to be able to do. There may be overlap with Poser 5 functionality there, maybe there won't be much though. We just don't know.
Look at other communities that have an SDK, most plugins are free, depending on how major they are. LW's community has a huge free plugin base, and then the ones that add a lot of functionality to the software usually have to be paid for, but wow are they worth it! The strength of an app like DAZ|Studio won't necessarily be what it offers out of the box (although that will be huge). What could be one of it's larger strengths will be it's community of developers, DAZ included. And that strength will be determined by DAZ and how they deal with the whole development/SDK issue.
