You did not say what the problem is with your hard drive. If it is the case that it has become 'unbootable' because the operating system got corrupted it might still work as a data disk. In that case you might try bringing it up in an external usb drive such as 'Thermaltake'. Similarly it might be worth attempting a recovery effort for the data and not worry about the operating system, but obviously after a major crash I would not trust a disk for the long term.
I once had a HD that crashed. I Ghosted the drive to a clean disk even though it was corrupt (never work on the original disk if the data are important - make sector by sector copies and work on them). It took me three tries in learning what settings would work, but I got the data back and then quickly transferred it to another HD. If I remember correctly it was exactly your scenario, but with my Poser 7 set-up.
I say 'Ghost' but it might have been from an equivalent program. 'Ghost' used to be the gold standard.
You might take a look at some of the utilities that come with UBCD (Ultimate Boot CD, which is actually a DVD). Once you get your new disk working make an ultimate boot cd for your computer. The way it works is you follow their instructions to get what is needed from your computer for booting and then add some of the 'free' utilities of your choice to your Ultimate Boot CD for your computer.
When that's done you can boot your computer without any hard disk in it at all. It will be slow, and you may have to call out to create a virtual disk made of your hardware's ram memory, but it should work.
Once you're running try some of the disk clone programs they offer (I vaguely remember a "true"-something or other disk clone) and try cloning your old HD to a clean one that is either new or good used.
Here's the link to the UBCD site:

I would write the vendor to let them know there is an interest in their product. Falls into the worst case category 'couldn't hurt.'
It is possible that it is old enough that the vendor just didn't think it was worth the time to add especially if it is an expired item.
Edit: I just took a look. It's actually a pretty neat little model. But I also noticed that the vendor doesn't have any active models, which is all the more reason to lob in a request. Maybe they'll be pleasantly surprised!
Thread: Is there a way to quickly edit the Shopping Cart? | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
Nope. Doesn't work. Sorry.
I'm talking about the cart. The wishlist has turned into a Long-term wishlist and is too long to be used for specific sales (there isn't a way to sort a wishlist for ONLY items that appear in, say, the 'buried treasure' sale, for example.
So the cart becomes both cart and temporary sales wishlist.
There is no way I can see of editing a cart easily. There are only the 'Continue Shopping' and 'Proceed to Checkout' buttons.
Each item has to be dealt with individually.

I'll look for it. It took me about half an hour to delete all the 'Wishlist' items for the sale before first buying a gift certificate, so that would be helpful (figure an average of 5-10 seconds per spinning ball deletion, and start with an Enormous wishlist this time of about $500 that had to be severely paired back, and assume that every half dozen items or so you have to take a pause in the robotic-like routine)...
I've made the recommendation before that Rendo might consider having multiple 'wishlists' that can be ported to a cart.
There is a long-term wishlist that gets big.
But for any given sale of any length, I ususally have to go through it, create a list of all the potential items I want, then whittle it down to what I can afford. When there is a sale that lasts multiple weeks or crosses budget cycles then it would be nice to keep the items in the sale wishlist.
Thank you for the response. Sorry you have to work today. Hope you get outside and the weather is nice!
Thread: Buried Treasure Paging Question (102 pages - how to get to page 54? etc.) | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
D'oh! (Smacks head). Now that I've asked the question, after a couple of days of pain, one easy work-around has presented itself:
Go to the page line (eg http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?TopID=526860&page_number=75) and manually type in the page number (eg page 75 in this instance).

Why doesn't Renderosity simply offer a 'convert to Store credit' option for gift-cards?
I believe this would solve a lot of problems and make it more attractive to put money in when you have it in budget.
Thread: A suggestion for your "from the past" sales events | Forum: Suggestion Box
Here's an example this week where an interesting product was brought back (note also the positive reviews):

And Renderosity does have the base product in their inventory:
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/sweater-set-for-v4/53033
... but like a pussycat staring at a sealed can of tuna, I can see it but I cannot get at it!

Vendors and Renderosity please note.
I like the concept of bringing back deleted items. I hope it continues and I hope that deleted items will 'reappear' more than once. There is only so big a pocket book and because I do not buy it this time doesn't mean I don't want it, rather only that I have to choose between items.
I also agree with Winterclaw. Perhaps one suggestion might be for the vendor to note to Renderosity whether the item required is available and then for Rendo to alert the primary vendor to the opportunity that another vendor may be providing with the add-on. If you do this regularly perhaps the process may be automated so that there is no burden on vendors since in theory the site already knows whether a companion item is available or not.
Thread: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Two good suggestions and a method towards diagnosis. Sorry for the delay; I'm not always here.
It is a set that I bought. The mirror looks flat, but may not be. Not sure what is meant by ' a carefully designed normal map applied.'
I did 'borrow' the reflections material from a mirror that was working on another set so I tend to suspect the mesh here.
I'll see if I can get a screen capt of the mat room settings. I'm wondering now if I have a spherical reflection map applied someplace and it is inverting?
Also I will see if I can separate out the mirror mesh - or turn it off independently - and replace it with a poser plane prop.

I just had some trouble with a Rich-a-bri SET scene yesterday after loading SR5. Don't know if it was related or coincidence, but it was the first time I encountered this phenomena.
I had a character sitting at a table. With AO on I would get lighter gray shadows where instead they should have been darker gray. Imagine a table leg with table and shadow. Then imagine turning AO on and the area close to the leg that would normally be darker suddenly showed up as a lighter ring. Same around Character shoes, etc.
I played around with Ray Tracing vs Depth mapping, but eventually just turned off the AO function for now until I figure out what is going on.
Thread: Simple Question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Absolutely! I still use V3 regularly and it is still an important character in my character stable. I didn't know there was a low resolution version and would like to get my hands on it, especially if standard V3 clothing will fit on the lo-res version.
V3 (and A3 M3 Variants - I consider in the same category) have/has some advantages over V4 and because the figure is an earlier generation often helps to lower the size of scenes. I have a lot of items with cross support for V3.
V3 gives some visual relief to a scene with V4 characters as it is slightly different and I think it is still a good strong mesh.
Good prices on sales in the last couple of years have led me to pick up a lot of stuff for V3, and it is the 'stuff' too that is important.
Thread: I Don't Like Random Timing for 48 Hour Sales! | Forum: Suggestion Box
One of the good things about DAZ is that when they have convoluted sales, quite often they make up for their complexity by having a cumulative 'Catch-Up' Sale at the end. So, if a customer got 'burned' when prices changed the company ultimately gets the opportunity to redeem themselves.
I'd like Renderosity to consider giving me and others the opportunity to buy some of the 48 hour stuff missed today in a catch-up sale before the single use coupon expires on April 30th.
Thread: I Don't Like Random Timing for 48 Hour Sales! | Forum: Suggestion Box
Finally, here, perhaps is a useful suggestion. When you have a sale, the expiring time may be on a single page in the fine print. But the products you have on sale only have a date listed on the product page. When I am going through products that are part of a special sale I have no idea that there may be only a short time left or all day. The assumption when I see that an item expires April 24th is that it expires 11:59PM April 24th. Sometimes I never even go through the sale promo page - just through my wishlist and that triggers me to look at what else might be of interest.
If you're going to put a product on sale, and you expect me to time it to a random minute, please let me know the time, preferably both on the product page and in my cart.
Don't emulate DAZ on some of their things. They got too complicated with their promotions and that, combined with too many unlabled items that don't work easily in Poser (unless you read the details AFTER you click to the product page), is why Rendo gets more of my money typically. It is a function of time spent. My time is valuable to me. If I spend too much time figuring out a sale and don't get anything I lose interest. If I get burned once or twice spending time with no reward, I'll still come back. If it looks like I may likely get burned on a regular basis, I won't.
Thread: I Don't Like Random Timing for 48 Hour Sales! | Forum: Suggestion Box
Actually make that closer to $150. With the 24% off it was a little over 100. I really wanted the Phil C stuff on sale, too. By coincidence stuff I had been looking at over a longer period of time was in that 48 random hours.
Please stick to 11:59pm time endings. To me it is really stupid and not fun to do random times unless you don't have anything better to do than sit on this site all day and read the fine print that goes along with your sales. Hey if, you like that, here's an idea: start a sale on Day one. Have it valid Days 1, 3 and 5. Then start a second sale on day 2. Have it valid days 2, 4, and 6. Then run a third sale, have it valid during the even hours on days 1, 3 and five and on the odd hours during days 2, 4, and 6. Give PRIME 30% off $30 if they buy something between the half hour and the full hour, except the hour before and after 12:00. Then repeat for the remaining days of the month with different vendors. Sound fun?
I really needed the money for other things, anyway. This was (almost) an impulse buy, I'm just sorry I spent all my time carefully going through the sales list and correllating it with my budget. Sorry, Phil, Sorry Madddelerium, Sorry Vanda51, Sorry Zeddicuss, Sorry isle-avalon, Sorry Pixieluna, Sorry Simon 3D... and more. That's time from Rendo I can't get back.

I agree. I use Poser, too. Doesn't help me to get excited and spend time on something only to find I cannot use it!
