doug - it's hard to judge how they will come out. i usually use one fairly well calibrated monitor to make the adaption/selection of images to print - and then send them to photo finishing (without optimisation, of course- that would be deadly)... the outcome of the grain will mainly depend on the image size where you applied this kind of pw, shrinking 12MP to 10x15 cm prints makes no really sense...

I think it's a challenge created by the possibilities of digital photography. Formerly - with B/W - in the darkroom you had possibilities of manually manipulating areas, double exposures etc. I missed the phase - if it really existed - of colour darkroom (?) but now one immediately enters into the temptation of alienation of every shot. I did it with my digital gleanings last year where the results showed tremendous variances in appeal. I've no idea what is right (usually let it to the model to choose). Why not picking up Misha's idea?...

Thank you Misha et al. It finally comes down to the cultural context where somebody resides: to me the covering attitude of No.1 is "less nude" than the model really stripped bare in No. 2. Hence the only chance is to consent to formal rules as in the TOS and that's it. Period. Makes the choice of postings out of the actual series not easier BTW.

i don't know XP; but having once changed gamma settings of PSP (5 or 6 then) and actually working with 3 different PCs with different screens (plus an apple ibook since 3 weeks) i finally feel urged to read more about colour profiles; using a scanner or changing the white balance of digital shots (RAW) multiplies the things to consider - colour is no mystery but complicated (sigh) (may be of no acute help but has to be said imho ) (the version bottom/right looks best for me)

Doug: be warned to refer to focal length allways (if you are using a digital camera, for the sake of comaparability) rescaled to 35mm film format - the conversion factor depends on the camera type (i.c. the sensor size)....

the s5000 has a SuperCCD with 3MP and the S5500 a "normal" CCD with 4MP; the interpolated 6MP of the S5000 correspond qua technique to 4-5 MP of "normal" CCDs. So the images of the S5500 are 4MP at most! Usually the newer cameras have become quicker in shutter delay so if I had the choice I'd prefer the S5500 (I had the S5000 for testing over a weekend - quite content, but I was already in favor of the S7000 - even more content after 9 months as the smaller zoom range is sufficient for me )
