Well now, jval, not to spawn any animosity, but maybe John at Corel wasn't speaking monosyllabically enough for you to understand. To restate, John said, "Corel has never released such information and likely will not release any information regarding any of its products that are in development until they reach the Beta stage." That means, NO, Brycetech's full of it. So, according to Corel, Brycetech is closing down his site based off of speculation only. I'm not involved with the politics, I don't care either way myself, only that controversy based off of speculation is an attention getting device more than anything. "There's nothing more exhilarating than pointing out the shortcomings of others.", to quote Randall from Clerks...
Thread: OT - How to ask questions if you're new to Bryce. | Forum: Bryce
Aye, I think the real issue here is ego backlashing. None of us are "THE Bryce Master", otherwise we wouldn't be here, we would have made our million dollars and be chillin out with spider monkeys instead of geeking on the internet. I own Bryce 3D(it moves!), Bryce 4, and Bryce 5 as well, but I originally bought my Bryce 3D(it moves!) from Half Price Books for WELL under half price. Does that make me a schmuck or a warez kid? I hope not, I like to thing it makes me a smart shopper. But in that case, someone had bought the program originally AT the retail price, and sold it to Half Price to pay their rent or whatever... So the Metacreations guys got their royalties, and everyone's happy. And as for the manual, it is easy reading, it might take an entire hour to digest it in it's entirety. I think that they did a great job on the Bryce 3D(it moves!) manual, and a stinky job on the Bryce 5 one... As long as we keep egotism and despite out of our posting, we should all be fine. We're artists not corporate execs, well, at least not here anyway! p.s. sorry about the (it moves!) joke, way outdated... I once got into it with a MAX user, he said 3DS was way better then Bryce and I didn't know anything about it, so all I could say was "No way, Bryce moves!"

Good stuff, I love the hourglass! Now, to finish it, you need to make it hollow... (laughs) There is a program which will eventually I assume, if not already, convert Bryce object files to other formats, it's called PolyTrans. I saw it in 3DArtist a while back, and it supported more 3D formats than any other util I've ever seen. All of them, I think, but I don't know if they made a Bryce switcher yet. Gonna go get the demo and see...
Thread: What's with Bryce 6? I've been gone for a long time. | Forum: Bryce
Aye, and you can definitely count on Corel to be silent about the whole topic... My guess is that Bryce 6 will be as radically different from 5 as Poser 5 is from the Pro Pack 4... Otherwise we'll probably all get sucked away by Curious Labs. Exponential innovation is the ticket, if NVidia can do it, why can't Corel? I'll email the guys at Corel and see if we can't put an end to this slander... (grins)

I agree with Aldaron, I get a lot of artifacting and unsmooth color transitions with the Cinepak codec, but I'm sure it would be great for camera footage. On the other end of things, try Adobe After Effects if you want some real editing/mixing power, I find it simple and effective...

Thread: Texture Tutorial | Forum: Bryce
Aye, I often run random images, even ones of questionable content, as separate channels in the Material Lab alongside my procedural textures. Chaos is the stuff of life... Must tame it!

Thread: Big problem with moving | Forum: Bryce
No criticism, nu-be, it's all good. It took me a full year to understand the ins-and-outs of positioning, and Bryce has actually helped me to learn other programs, like LightWave, a lot faster. Don't be afraid to venture your opinion, that's what these forums are for.
Thread: jpeg to mat, etc. | Forum: Bryce
Aye, Velvet, Aldaron, the reason you cannot import image files into the DTE directly is because the elements are NOT images. They are mathematical equations which create an image when combined. Does this make sense? When you shift click the "texture" element library on the right, you are actually looking at math, not images. As opposed to the library that rochr displayed, which is the material library. A ".jpg" file contains no fractal values, so will never work in this case...
Thread: July Challenge Entry - Atlantis 2.0 | Forum: Bryce
Aye, Rochr I'm using a similar machine, (AMD 1GHz) and it uses a Geforce 4 MX 420 with 64 MB DDR, and I'll tell you that it makes almost no difference as far as selection and manipulation of the wireframe mess... My older Pentium 3 uses a Riva TNT 16MB (PCI) and it easily keeps up in terms of layout speed. I don't think NVidia has any solutions yet for 2D acceleration, the GeForce is for games, period. Funny that they can accelerate Unreal up to 190 FPS but Bryce is still kicking at 1 frame in five hours! (laughs at self, maniacally almost!)
Thread: Continueing Render to disk...How Too? | Forum: Bryce
I'm curious, is Render to Disk faster? Is that why people use it? I've never timed it, and for some sick reason I enjoy watching the little white line move down one pixel every five minutes. I can't believe you've actually done that, Enforcer! Quite impresive, although almost as sick as watching a little white line for hours!
Thread: Making a laboratory scene... | Forum: Bryce
Aye, I see where you are coming from, CireNJ. Nobody was really accusing you of being anything, but from my POV images which contain other people's stuff are kinda lame, that's why I never post them. Then again, a movie producer doesn't make everything in his movies by hand, either, but you know what I'm getting at? The image above is NOT in my gallery for a reason... I didn't make any of the props in it, they were just on the Bryce disks for people like us to use as a learning tool. Good luck to you...
Thread: Exporting into 3DS-Max.. NEED HELP! | Forum: Bryce
Aye, although I heard that a new version of PolyTrans will be able to do convert .br5 files, but Lord Foo, PolyTrans costs MORE than Bryce, and as far as gaming goes Bryce is only good for making textures. Limits suck, and even worse is proprietary architecture. Good luck redoing your scene in Max!
