Thread: Help with "bones" :) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Hi Amy,
Yes ... stay tuned. ... ... And thank you for the question.
The chain I am making has 10 links ... but we can use it to make a different chain with any number of links. We could reduce it to 5 links or make it have 20, 30, 40, 50, etc. links.
How many links do you want in your chain? ... ;=]Another GOOD question ... BTW. ...
cheers,
dr geep

Hi Dr Geep,
Could you show me how to do that? I just need to know the technique, then I can make it longer... Target is 120 links!
Let's say the original group consists of 2 ring only. How to make it to 4?

It looks very detailed. Just look at the texture in the zip file. Wow! It is impressive, I don't know how long did you take to make that texture. Too bad, I don't have Vue. Is it possible for you to export the cart into Wavefront OBJ format?

Nice artwork. I wonder if it is done in DAZ|Studio. LOL!
Anyway, I've found DAZ|Studio is easier, if you just use it for scene and posing. You still need Poser to create contents for Poser.

Dr Geep, thank you for these tutorial links. Now, I get some idea what these parameters mean.

Quote - Ok. I deleted that awful mess I made.
Before I try another method, I'd like to try this bone one again but with less links and a smaller scale to see if that makes a difference.
How do I do all of this again using just 2 links and then making it grow into 24 or more at the end? And how do I start with smaller links so that one link doesn't take up my whole working window?
Geez, if I ever get this chain made, and if I were a vendor at Turbosquid, based on their method of pricing (by time), my chain would sell for thousands of dollars!! I'd be rich!
You can feel free to use mine. It already has 24 rings. You just need to resize it using the scale of the chain character.
I hope it is what you need.

Quote - This is not easy to do because adding a bone to an existing figure can cause problems with the joint parameters and other things associated with the figure.
Creating Morph Targets (MTs) for a figure is a better way to go and, also, allows for more variables.
The reason why I asked that question is the bone system we tried to build in this tutorial can become the bone system for the tail. If I can attached it to the hip, it will be perfect. Too bad, it seems that we can't.
Quote - Yes, rescaling body parts can be tricky because it can affect the joint parameters which are difficult to adjust properly.
One possibility is to export the figure as an object, make the modifications to the geometry in an external (outside of Poser) modeling program, e.g., Carrara, et al. Then import the modified figure back into Poser and create the required bone structure for the new figure.
Do you have any tutorial about the joint parameters?

I have no problem with it too.
Are you using Windows?
I used to have an ATI Radeon, I have to turn of the hardware acceleration in Windows for Blender. You may find my posting in http://blenderartists.org/forum/ about that.
There is another way, but it simply uses the MS OpenGL driver instead of the ATI OpenGL driver. You can find the DLL from Microsoft site and drop it in you Blender directory. Blender will use it instead of using the one installed with your ATI video card. With that, it is not necessary to turn off the hardware acceleration.
I would like to suggest that you turn of the hardware acceleration in Windows and try again. If it is OK, then take the next step.

You may want to convert the Aiko 3's sci-fi and fantasy clothing to Victoria 3. I don't think with Victoria 4 getting popular, no one is going to make new stuff for Victoria 3. I made a character morph for Victoria 3 SAE, but I'm using the same morph on Aiko 3 because I found that there are more free sci-fi and fantasy stuff for Aiko 3 than Victoria 3.

Ask away ... ;=] ............. I'm listening ...
I would like to know the proper way to add bone to existing character. For example, turn Aiko 3 into a cat-like character, with the tail and ears controlled by bones because I think it is better than using morphs for these parts.
I've found that it is hard to resize/scale the bone in the existing character. For example, I want to change the length of the arms. I wonder if changing the scale of the body part is the only way of achieving the result.

Dr Geep's tutorials are easy to understand. Thank you very much. After you finished this one, I would like to ask you about character morphing.

Hi Dr Geep,
I wonder if there is a better way to extend the chain I've made with more rings. Currently, I have 24 rings, let say I want to make it to 48 or 72. I don't think no one want to repeat the same steps for 120 rings. Can we join characters in Poser?

Quote - People put clothes on their poser figures?? Yeah, you can do that in Blender. OBJ is the way to go.
Incidently, there have been problems with Blender and vertex order in the past for creating morph targets. You may have to use a different script than the built-in obj import/export scripts. Things also may not go into groups the way Poser likes them, either, I've had to manually edit that in an obj file before. I'm not sure if that's still true in the most recent version of Blender, but it's something to keep in mind if you have problems.
Yes, people put clothing on Poser figures, otherwise, it is naked.
FYI, with Blender 2.44 and above. The problems with Blender and vertex order for creating morph targets is gone, all you need to do is specify that as "Morph Target" by using the "Morph Target" button in the OBJ Import and OBJ Export.
If you want to have the groups in the way you can use it in Poser, you have to uncheck the "Objects" button, but select "Object Groups" and/or "Material Groups" depends on how you organized your objects in Blender. I use both buttons all the time. Of course, you may want to edit the name of your groups after it is exported. You will need to do the renaming for conforming clothing because the group name generated by Blender does not match the bone name in Poser.
