I have P5 and Windows XP- I have no problems, I repeat no problems, rendering animations. I find P5 much better than P4 and SR3 fixed the AVI texture problems which was my only real complaint. Sorry TalonGE, I suspect there's something wrong with your system, not Poser 5- and I think you should follow ceba's advice. Wipe your system, reload Windows and then Poser 5 and see if it works. If it doesn't, flame away! I suspect Poser 5 runs for the majority of people who bought it, whom you don't hear from because they are happy with it. By the way, have you told CL about the problems you are having. I did that with the AVI texture problem, they asked me to send them an example, which I did, and there was a fix for it in the next release.

Or did you mean to join two halves of a model together? i.e. head of a skull with the body of a man.

You need to think how you are going to use this prop. If it's just going to sit on a table with the pieces on it,then one single sided square with a single texture that shows the whole board will do it. If you want to be able to fold the board up, then you'll need two rectangular, very flat boxes and you'll need something like UVMapper to create a texture template. Can't think why you'd want to model each square seperately, unless you wanted the playing squares to sort of explode, scattering themselves everywhere.

I'm not so sure it's luck, I suspect those with problems are running Win 98 or ME. I find it runs great on Windows XP and I prefer P5 to P4. I should add, however, that I have not used many of the new features. I love the new materials room and the ability to use AVI files as textures. DAZ studio is currently only vapourware- vapourware always sounds good. I predict it won't run well on Windows 98/ME either plus it will need a decent Graphics card which Poser doesn't. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to it's release but I think it's wrong to assume it will be better than Poser 5 as soon as it's released. From what I've read, it will only do a fraction of what Poser 5 can do but will expand in modules. It will take time for it to equal Poser 5 in functionality.
Thread: DAZ SITE WARNING---update | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I had an ongoing problem with the Michael 2 Trenchcoat and was suprised, as I am based in the UK, to get a long distance call one evening from DAZ support to sort it out- which they did. It's great when you find a company that gives good support, it's a shame it's so rare. It's nice to hear other's have recieved the same level of service. I always look in DAZ's store first when I'm looking to buy a model.

Thread: Bullet Time help | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It's been a while since I saw the Matrix, so I hope I am visualising the correct effect. How about creating lots of bullets that follow the same path, each one frame behind the other, and then make each bullet slightly more transparent than the one in front of it?
Thread: nodes???? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
In poser 5, nodes are the windows you can add in the material editor which create textures. See Chapter 34 of the Poser 5 Reference Manual.

Oh yeah, it's well known that you can't use Poser without spending hours looking at lingerie. ;0)

Unless a texture is shared by more than one object, then I don't put it in the texture folder, I put it in the figure/props folder. That way, when tidying up, deleting that folder will also get rid of the textures associated with it. Also, when a texture cannot be found, that's the first place Poser looks for it.

Thread: Need advice | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The best starting tutorial is in the Poser 4 manual. If you purchase P5, contact Curious Labs for a copy of the P4 Manual. It's much more useful to a starter than the P5 Handbook. The P5 handbook is frustratingly placed inbetween a user guide and a manual and so, is neither! In fact many of Poser 5's features are inadequately covered. I found Poser not difficult to start using and got quick and fairly good results. However, like writing a novel (so I'm told), you can keep going back to a poser scene and improve it. There's so much to poser that you will find yourself learning more and more as time goes on and keep achieving better results. And if you get stuck, just post your question here and someone will help you.
Thread: Is there an easy way to get rid of an entire animation routine ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Alternatively, if you want to create a new PZ3 that continues from where you left off (usefull if you are creating animation scenes that are over 999 frames), then select all the squares under 150 and drag them to position 1. Then select all the squares from 2 to 999 and hit the delete key. Then save the file as the new file name. If you save it over the original file, it is customary to shout "Doh!" and then slap your forehead. :0)
