Thread: Help : render with no name !!! | Forum: Bryce
Thread: Check out my website | Forum: Bryce
I liked the way it looked and the way it worked. Nice renders, too. I liked your reflectivity on your shiny, industrial objects.

OH, whew, that's a lake. Cool. I thought it was a tornado and accompanying Bryce police storm system coming from West Texas into New Mexico to wipe out all heretical pockets.

I would like to reply here, just so we can keep the mood light (no pun intended, actually). I have been a little disturbed lately about this duking it out over varioius topics on this forum, and, like Claymor, I thought, oh, no ... I must confess: I am a Southern Baptist minister (minister of music, to be specific), and, though I'm not all that terrific, I would say I'm an artist. I liked this humor and understood each of the jokes as they applied to each of these groups. It is lighthearted and fun, and I, for one, was glad to have something that was meant truly in the spirit of fun, except that dadburned committee part; that does really stink sometimes. ;0) The Baptist chicken part, well, you just can't have enough fried chicken, can you? That said, I'm not sure you could get the committees to agree on Original or Extra Crispy, and the seniors always would go for the legs and thighs special, whereas I prefer breasts. Well, now that is an interesting statement, taken out of context, isn't it. Maybe I should stop while I'm ahead. lol. Seriously, great little chuckle maker, electroglyph. Thanks for sharing it.
Thread: My Birthday today.... 29 years old for the last 15 years. | Forum: Bryce
I'm always just happy to see that there actually is someone older than I on Renderosity. ;^) (though not by much...) Seriously, though, happy birthday. Incidentally, that kitten still above is from a rather funny animation that someone sent to me the other day. Have any of you seen it? I confess that I laughed out loud right there in my office. The picture is funny enough; it's just something about the sound that got me laughing. Good day, oldsters everywhere.
Thread: Totally Off Topic - Brits rule the Waves | Forum: Bryce
I hear Hyacinth Bucket singing Rule Brittania ... "'Rule Brittania, Brittania, rule the waves,' Sing with me, Richard ...." Cool achievement, seriously. Ellen is pretty energetic. Congratulations to all you islanders.

I got 10. The Manchester thing got me, because I figured in his condition law wouldn't apply anyway. Oh, well, I have to outthink myself now and then.
Thread: "Generic Error" 100 percent reproducable ... Why?? | Forum: Bryce
This is something I am going to file away in my memory for later. Good advice. Worth a try. This model, though, already is smooth. I'd have to figure out how to modify it and try all over. I just want to say how appreciative I am that you guys would try to help me get to the bottom of this. And it sounds like I'm not all alone either, so that actually makes me feel a bit better. I'm going to keep working on it.

No, unfortunately, I don't think it's Wingss fault. The model was created in Wings, sent piece by piece to UVMapper, re-assembled in Rhino and exported as a whole to .obj via Rhino, a process I've done many times without problems. Actually, the Wings .objs always seem to be a little cleaner than the Rhino-generated ones. I have a feeling that, if I'd gone direct from Wings to UV Mapper and not to Rhino then it may have been cleaner meshes, but re-assembling various parts in Bryce is a royal pain. They're odd sizes and I can't get them back together seamlessly. Rhino imports all .objs the same size as they were originally and they are put back together after mapping without seams. Aldaron, thanks for that bit of info., but, unfortunately, these are about 1024 on the largest side. I'm thinking, though, that this seems to be an .obj problem.

Hey, I just went over there, and Darlisa, one of the cool people of all time, suggested the file names, including dot and extension, may not be over 32 characters or Bryce will crash. Some of my texture maps were, in fact, too long, so I changed all the names, reloaded each image on an object by object basis, and voila! ... It still crashes. Can you believe it? Same error. No change. AAAAAAarrrgh. This is weird, because I've never had it happen before that I can recall, and I've had MUCH bigger scenes, much more bizarre collections of textures and flat-out near-corrupt .objs, and Bryce has liked them all. Then here's this one that just won't save at all.

Oh, BTW, I've attempted this same procedures on three different computers, two of them PCs and one a laptop, and two different OSes, including Win2K and Windows XP. Same result.
Thread: A lousy start on a new year. | Forum: Bryce
Wow, Rudy, I'm sorry to hear about that. And what a pretty cat. I know they mean so much to us. We recently went to Colorado to visit my parents for Christmas and left our three cats at the house in New Mexico. They were well taken care of and had plenty to eat and drink. But our youngest, an 18-month-old male black cat, died for no apparent reason. He just crawled up into the chair, laid down and passed away. We got home and my 10-year-old daughter found him. Our four kids cried their eyes out, and our first night home was spent burying and mourning. It's bad, but what was worse is that nobody seemed to care that we'd lost this precious part of our family. My mother-in-law just said, "well now you only have two cats, so that's more normal." !! Well, I'm here to tell you that I really feel for you. My whole family does. I think it's cool that you've already had so much heartfelt response to your venting, as you put it. We pray for people and their animals, so we'll add you and your buddy to our prayer list. John
