I am not positive that just copying all the contents of the Smith Micro 2010 and 2012 will work. It may; I just don't know.
But by copying the tree with your Runtimes you will save many hours of work.
In the future, there is an easier way you might look in to which is called "ghosting" your hard drive. This makes a copy of it in its entirety, and also has the advantage of effectively performing a defrag on the new disk you create.
Here is a link from ehow that tells you how to do it:
http://www.ehow.com/how_4450506_ghost-hard-drive.html
Note that much of the discussion talks about making ISO files onto optical Cds or DVD that you can restore, which in the past assumes you don't have a hard drive. But if you're ghosting a hard drive, even through usb, you're beyond that.
And a link from Wikipedia about the history:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_%28software%29
When you ghost a new drive from scratch you should be able to use it in your computer as if it is the original disk. You can ghost to larger disks, and the system will typically still work. There are some details that have to be correct, the Master/Slave jumper setting, whether your partition is active or not, but if you get into it the software should tell you. You should also be able to ghost IDE to Sata. It works fine for data, at least, and I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work for an operating system disk.
So, I would look at ghosting your disk and then setting the ghosted version aside as a master back-up. If your working disk fails, you could ghost it back to the same point as which you started.
Note: I would also look at registry back-up programs such as "erunt". This is supposed to work from Windows XP thru Windows7. Sometimes getting a disk to work is just a matter of retoring your registry to a previous point in time. Typically they say that if you use these kinds of programs they are effective if you run them immediately before you install new software. That way if you install something that does something unexpected, you can get back to where you were.

I am a Renderosity Fan, but I also believe in telling strengths where applicable; Another forum to post in is at Daz3D, New users, the commons, or nuts and bolts threads.

** ROPE ROOM SUGGESTION**
Quote - The cloth and the hair room go back to Poser5.
There are lots of requests to enhance both in the db now.Time, priority and available manhrs will determine what can be put in future Poser versions.
But face, cloth and hair room are certainly on the too long "todo" list.
Prop hair, figure hair, and dynamic hair, all have different purposes.
Over the years all have been improved.
And idea's are certainly welcome.
Put them also in the RDNA forum.
**(I) I would like to see a dedicated "Rope" Room. **
Rope is similar to cloth and hair but it is a unique object unto itself, and I think much of the process to do it already exists.
For starters I would like to be able to specify two points, a diameter and then a length.
Then I would like to be able to go into the equivalent of a cloth room and add gravity. Depending upon the length of the rope, the resulting curve should then droop realistically.
(II) A slightly more complicated version would take the above suggestion and allow the rope to drape over objects yet maintain it's diameter. Imagine (don't know why I'm choosing this example as I work with sailboats) taking a cable TV wire in a room. Fix one point at the outlet, the next on the TV. Then specify a long length and have it drape over the couch, the coffee table, the computer, the sleeping dog, the cat, the goat munching your homework, etc.
(III) The next level would be able to add knots. There is a knot-Tyer program available free that has *.obj output, but it is not Python coded. I would like to see something like this incorporated directly into Poser.
Here’s the link:
http://www.stevenabbott.co.uk/Knots/knottyer3d.html
(If I could add a place in Steve’s program such that I could import a jpeg to trace over that would be great; right now his graphic window is limited).
(IV) Finally, I would like to be able to draw a complicated rope path by hand and input it to a scene.
Here’s how that would work. Say, physically draw on paper the ‘squiggle’ that I wanted my rope path to look like. Then scan it and run a centerline trace so I now have a vector that is one line thick (say eps or equivalent). Then take that single line eps, place it where I want in my scene, and then apply rope attributes.
This is similar to how I used to draw cartoons and import them into Photoshop/Illustrator in the late 1990s.
The reason I want to do this is that sometimes I have a scene and it frustrates me that if I printed it out on paper in 2D I could draw the exact path of the rope that I want in two seconds. Since it's a print, the geometry would match if I could get it back into the machine. Given the things that I requested in I & II above that would give me a lot of flexibility in a short time.
Thread: So are you going to leave poser for V5, Gen ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Hi
I have spent quite a bit of time working with DS 4 now and I'm finally trying to get the hang of he interface but I'm not going to switch from Poser.
I've worked with Poser for many years, I know where everything is and don't have to spend half my time trying to find things.
I still say that Poser is always the least stable software on my computer, that's been true of every version I've had and 8 is no better. It still freezes and drives me nuts but it's the instability that I'm used to.
I still like and use the Jessi and James characters.
They always looked more natural to me.
They seem easier to create characters out of and of course all my hand made textures are for them, I don't want to start all over again.
Mike
I think you're right, Mike. The Jesse and James characters have been one of SM's better efforts, and rather than splashing out entirely new characters they might have spent more time on these like Daz did with V4. From morphs to encouraging artists to develop for them.
Thread: So are you going to leave poser for V5, Gen ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Of course , my answer is a big no.
And If Daz know that Genesis figures are going to be compatible with Poser in a near future, that's good, but if not, I think Daz has made a big mistake if they think that the most Poser users are going to ignore their application for a temporal figure, and the atmosphere that is breathed in some comments, threads ,... leads me to believe that Daz knows it.
Genesis is great, I don't test it, but I think that yes, it is a good product, better thant M4 and V4, yes better, but not incredibly better, and of course does not justify not using Poser anymore
And from the content creator point of view, I don't think thay are going to leave their Poser users only to support a figure, that for sure is going to change in 1 or 2 years.
I tend to agree with Adh3D, but I think a lot depends on Smith Micro and how much they're coasting vs doing state of the art development. I personally like Poser for their software and Daz for their Characters.
Smith Micro's change of the Content Paradise site was in my opinion, very poor. It lost creativity and vision. Heck now they even try to sell you a short term download insurance and pretend it is a service when Rosity and Daz and others have it for free! I and others consider this a tax and am annoyed whenever we have to uncheck their extra cost two-year "service" box. This doesn't bode well if it is a signal.
Daz is taking a risk by making characters that are not compatible, but their timing is probably good. I bought Poser8, but am still using Poser7 as the changes in 8 aren't significant enough yet to make me go through the hassle of loading it. Right now, while I don't want to switch, it is Smith Micro's race to lose.
To be fair to SM, though, Daz's risk is not completely artistic or creative. From what I hear it is almost like they are inserting more hard-line morality in their outlook. Look at the criticism beginning for "Ken and Barbie" characters. If Daz strikes the proper balance this could be good, but if it goes too far for the artistic community they could be out in the cold.
It is still early in the game. Maybe a completely different third party will arise?
Thread: What would cause my saved poses to be corrupt? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I don't know if this helps. I found an oddity in poses I would save with V4 in Poser 7, and it took a while to track down what was going on.
If you go to, say, the "Body" on V4++ and add any of those morphs (e.g. "Arms Down") and then create a pose, that pose appears to assume that you always have the "Arms Down" dial on the body morphs turned up to the exact position you previously set.
What this means is that if you now start with a blank V4++ character and add the pose you just saved you can get some pretty wierd reactions if you didn't remember to also turn up that "Arms Down" dial.
The result is that now I never use any of those "Arms Down" etc. in a character because the poses I save are then specific to that character and are no longer generic to V4.
Not sure if this applies to your situation.
Thread: my card is being charged more than the amount of purchase? | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
One more thing.
With the 15% charges, I am not clear yet who exactly is putting them on. I talk to the vendor and the vendor says it is the CC company. I talk to the CC company and they insist it is the vendor, that they have no control over it because they deal with so many vendors.
Oddly, right now I believe both the vendor and the CC company.
I had this happen with another vendor, who appeared to be putting on very large overcharges - like 25% or more (I don't remember exactly, I'd have to look). They insisted they weren't the problem. But after spending hours with the CC company and then repeatedly insisting to the vendor that it was on their end, it mysteriously first lowered then went away. I don't know that it wasn't on their end, but I have a feeling they did not know about it and it got fixed after they complained about it themselves.
Now, there is at least a third possibility. Many vendors use a service, such as verisign, that they have to deal with. I don't know exactly how that fits in.
I do know that over the weekend I made a $2.50 purchase on a gift card with exactly $2.50 left on it, for a 3D graphics product at a different company and the transaction went through flawlessly. That means not all companies are putting additional "holds," or the new term "tolerance amounts" that cause a card to be rejected.
And for the Record, I will say that Renderosity has been very, very good.
But something is definitely going on and it seems to be changing slightly from day to day.
Thread: my card is being charged more than the amount of purchase? | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
As an added FYI, it was through using the gift cards that I first found out that PayPal was taking an additional $1.00 for every transaction attempt (successful or failure) that they made and holding it for something like 4-8 days before reversing it.
That meant if you had a $100 debit card you could at best only make a $99 purchase on Paypal with it. If you typed in a number wrong and it was declined and you had to start again - another dollar, so you're down to $98. Since most people use credit cards, they would never know paypal was holding money off them since I don't think those temporary charges are required to be disclosed to you in your statements.
Paypal would eventually give the $1.00 back, but your $100 purchase, for which you clearly had the money, would have been rejected for an unspecified error and you would never know why unless you started asking a lot of questions.
That is why I stopped using Paypal once I found out about those games they seemed to be playing.
To be fair, I think Paypal has curtailed or eliminated that practice. But it doesn't mean others aren't doing variations of it.
Thread: my card is being charged more than the amount of purchase? | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
Something new appears to be going on with the credit and debit card companies. It is NOT transparent to the users. I am having repeated troubles with Gift Visa debit cards that I use, and it is for different reasons every time, ususally involving temporary overcharges that reverse.
What they are doing to Debit cards they are also doing to credit cards, it's just that most users don't see them like you do because the the games they appear to be playing are around charges that reverse.
Most credit card users never check their statements regularly.
I NEVER heard of or encountered a tolerance amount until a couple of weeks ago.
I use the gift cards for safety - both for me and for the vendor. There is a fixed amount on the card which I know is there and if the card number gets leaked or out elswhere there is a limited finite amout that fraudsters can access.
Thread: combining gift certs amounts | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
As a user I have encountered fabiana's problem in the past.
(1) How come gift certificates cannot just roll together and behave as a store credit?
(2) and how come Renderosity doesn't have the option of adding more than one gift certificate at check-out?
Thread: Reminder - Java Script Scrolling images: STILL PAINFUL | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
That helps quite a bit. I can verify it works in Firefox (Haven't tried IE yet).
Still twice as much clicking as just saving the image, which I can't imagine is that difficult to code into a tab. Also, not obvious to the average user without some playing around. In the GUI coding I remember, it was just a matter of telling them which commands you wanted in the tabs (include the 'save image as' option). I guess I'm a bit insistent because I believe the real fix is sooo easy. I still recommend this highly.
Meanwhile, now an order of magnitude better than I was able to do before your suggestion.
Thank you, this was very helpful.

Thread: Still annot Save your New Java Script Images | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
The short answer, apologetically, is no.
I can confirm that on another machine that has older version of IE (5 or 6) which is no longer stable the typical right click option does exist.
But As I said, I have to download IE and then make sure my registry is documented before hand and then load it on my machine. The only reason I will do this is for Renderosity, so I'm not anxious to do so, but it is a possibility. IE gave me conflict problems before with one of my antivirus programs and that is why I stopped using it.
I don't have this problem with Runtime DNA, etc. so I just wonder what the difference is. I really think it has to be something simple like a toggle.
If you can't help, at least thank you for listening and pointing out that a different browser can support saving jpegs.
Thread: Still annot Save your New Java Script Images | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
Note also that the image is much larger than the screen and you have to click around multiple times to see what's all there.
Thread: Still annot Save your New Java Script Images | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
Then what you see are my choices after right clicking.
No way to get the image.
Maybe it is a simple software fix to enable save as Jpeg?
Conditions:
Windows XP
Firefox:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.10) Gecko/20100914 Firefox/3.6.10
While I say I can use IE, I will have to make a special effort to download it and upgrade just for Renderosity.
Thank you.
Thread: Still annot Save your New Java Script Images | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
The big thing for me, though, would be the ability to directly download a Jpeg again, rather than have to have only the ability to Save a web page and then extract a Jpeg. In itself, if it worked as it is supposed to the Right-left scrolling doesn't really add anything from the up-down scrolling you had before. But if you like it and it keeps up with the Joneses, fine.
And so far the description and editorial tabs really don't seem to add much. Just make for more needless clicking. Maybe get rid of one of them so the editorial tab is already on the page?
