Hello there. Btw, Welcome to both Renderosity and the Forum. With that said, I'm afraid that I'm another large image culprit. One of the things that I do to cut down image size is to go ahead and render at 920x760 or larger, then export as psd. Then when I take them into photoshop to add the title and copyright, I run a sharpen filter, reduce by 70% and check the image size and check to see if I lost any important detail. If not, and it's still big, I shrink it in small increments 'till I think it works. Keep a hand near the undo, but a lot of the time the detail lost by reduction is so small it wouldn't have been noticed anyway. If its to sharp after all that, I run a smart blur filter, verrrry carefully. Then flatten and post it. That said, I'm going to toddle off and take a look at your gallery. I'm DSL'd, big images don't scare me... Later.

Welcome. We enjoy new talent here (Hope no one mind me speaking in the collective) Nice work. Was the render in bryce? And if so, how did you get the wave pattern. Love to have that water mat...

Thread: obj format export | Forum: Bryce
Yeah it is. But it's a really nice looking dead end street... Somethin gon my wish list (Along with object export) is an option to have booleans either operate as they do now, OR, have them modify the geometry permanently as they do in other modelers. In spite of the dead end, I often find myself finishing objects in bryce because their boolean ops seem to be more stable than other programs.

Thread: rendering time for large picturesin Bryce 4 | Forum: Bryce
Yes, bryce files can get fairly large. I'm looking at my vault and noticing that my "Temple of the Lovers" file is 60mb and "Vampires in the Mist" is 35.5mb. It is worth it though. One thing that I have noticed is that on my machine, when I'm dealing with high ambience .mats or lots of transparence/reflection, imported meshes seem to render faster that bryce primitives. Don't know why, that's not what the tutorials tell me should happen. One way to speed up and cut file size is to: a) work w/o textures untill you get final positioning, b) one every thing is where you want it, eliminate the details that cant be seen. Then texture and render. With groups, work in solo mode as much as possible. Also, group complex objects: the raytracer calcs wether it hits the group, then the sub group, then the object. Wherever you can, use image textures. They don't necessarily cut down render time, but they're smaller than geometry. Hope this helps...

Thread: Help. I think I broke the chat room... *sorry* | Forum: Community Center
I was joking on the I broke it thing. I figured it was a server crash or something. Don't worry, Im not that sensitive. I did figure the header would draw notice to the problem if they didn't know yet though....

Thread: Chat room down? | Forum: Community Center
Yeah, I get the same thing. Since my internet explorer crashed just as I sent my reply on that, I may have broken it. Sorry 'bout that.

Good to have you aboard. That's a pretty nice image for an intro. We always appreciate new talent. (Hmmm, if my friends called me pus, I'd be shopping for new friends... chuckle) Keep the good stuff coming.

There are ton 'o bryce/poser sites out there, and as was said above, all of us are happy to give free advice. My e-mail is s_barnes@swbell.net, if you have a specific question, I'll be happy to take a stab at it or direct you to someone/somewhere you might find an answer. Welcome to Brycing & Renderosity! The people here are truly great.

Thread: I'm back! | Forum: Bryce
I understand completely. I had a harddrive go belly up and I lost a years woth of files, not jus art, but game & correspondence/business files... Fortunately I have multiple hd's. Unfortunately, the one that went was my vault (don't it figure?) It's good to have you back. It's small consolation, but look at it this way: Now you can do all new stuff that's better because of what you learned from the past efforts (Still bites, though!). Something that helps: get a CD burner and burn copies of scenes and images periodically, at this point its locking the door after the hosses are gone... but it'll keep you from going through it again. Blank CD's are CHEAP.

Thread: .OBP test, opinions | Forum: Bryce
Looks real good. 6 megs is possible to mail, but barely. I sent a 14meg guitar.obp to someone and my mail server freaked! (The zip was 10meg for 3 items) The fold on the blankets is good, I can never get mine to look real in max.

Well, that bites! Bee, please let me know if you see anything of mine over there. Right now I'm a bit busy to intentionally browse slow sites, but as soon as I get a free day I'll look also.

Thread: Help! Need a rose... | Forum: Bryce
Thanks everyone. I found a copy of aladdin, but I couldn't find Robin Woods rose in freestuff. I was short on time, so I may have overlooked it, but a search on Robin Woods & Rose (& variants) netted nothing. I e-mailed Bonestructure for Nerd's, we'll see how that works in my gravesite scene...
