figures rigged with P7 type tools/conventions will work in DS4 ( as in DS3 etc)
figures rigged like Miki3 do not work in DS ( but can have the rigging tweaked to do so)
anything that uses PMD will work up to DS3 ( with a script from the Freepozitory)
.pp2, ,cr2, ,hr2 etc work fine in all versions of DS.
Poser procedurals/shaders do not work in DS, ordinary materials/textures do ( need adjustment in Surfaces usually)
lights and cameras do work in DS, but not in a predictable way ( and any lights with images attached will not show the image, native DS default lights have no channel to plug an image file into)
dzShader lights CAN have a channel for an image, and of course the 'uberlights' do have a channel to plug images into.
magnets do work in DS ( they get converted to D-Form, but may not do exactly the same as in Poser)
nearly forgot, MT5 and MC6 files do not work in DS ( but can sometimes be converted to .pz2, then they work, but without any of the procedural/shaders, just the basic texture, if applicable)
hope this helps
Thread: How do you think the new Daz 4 compares to Poser? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
M5/V5/K5 etc, will just be 'shapes' for Genesis. the Genesis figure WILL NOT WORK IN POSER.
DAZ are NOT going to make Genesis compatible with Poser. SM will have to adopt the Figures technology in the next version ( if they want to,of course)
do not bank on EVER seeing a Dynamic Cloth creation plug-in ( not Optitex based, anyway)

Quote - > Quote - Judging by the 'strong' reactions to the $99 price of the Autofit plugin they are probably rethinking the whole strategy as we type!
<> another plugin. Is this core functionality? If so, why is this a "plugin"?
well, depends on your definition of 'core functions'
if you want to use the outfits, hairs etc that you already have, on the new figure, yes it is 'core'
but, if you only want to buy all new outfits/hairs etc for the new figure, no it is not 'core'
BUT bear (sp?) in mind that new outfits/hairs/characters are going to be in very short supply, possibly for a very long time.
on inside info that i have recieved about projected price points, very few smaller merchants are going to fork out for the tools necessary to create outfits etc for the Genesis figure, knowing full well that the actual market be be less than 50% of the current market for earlier DAZ figures.

Quote - > Quote - well, the new tabs take up way more screen than they should, the tabs are now set up so that you have to open up to 3 extra tabs to do what can be done in the parameters tab of DS3 ( ie, separate tabs for cameras, posing, lights etc.) you can no longer select surfaces in the surface tab, without having the object selected in scene tab,
Genesis is a huge heavy figure ( the last RC download was over 430Mb, with only one outfit and a couple of lightweight hairs included with the figure) as opposed to the 'no content' DS3A ( with basic V4 a wig and at least the bikini) that is a 100Mb download.
the GUI has very limited choice in layout styles and configuration.
the Genesis figure appears in your 'Programs' folder as a separate .exe.
the new CMS installs as a WINDOWS SERVICE to your startup folder ( and will be basically useless to any established user as it relies on meta data tagging for the products, which none of the current store products have, except possibly the newest releases)
it has been stated, by a DEVELOPER, that DAZ3D cannot guarantee the stability of DS4, if the service is stopped or uninstalled.
pricing structure ( people are going to get a rude shock when they see the pricepoint of the various versions),
there will be 5 versions in total. one really crippled 'online only' version, a 'free' Express version ( again, crippled) DS4 Standard ( 'free' for a short time, then 'pay for') again, with likely LESS features than current DS3 free, DS4A, with at least one essential plugin ( the Autofit)and possibly the basic Dynamic Cloth PLAYER and DS4 Pro, with content creation tools etc.
Wow, there's so much misinformation in your post I'm not even going to bother correcting you!
Coldrake
exactly where am i wrong? DS4 is out, no dynamic cloth player ( for one thing)
the tabs ARE set up in the way i said.
the CMS works exactly the way i said, company reps have stated in a public forum, that DAZ3D will not offer support when stopping/deleting the CMS causes the program to be unstable.
it has very limited functionality, because no meta data exists for store content
( except newer releases, possibly)
compared to DS2/DS3 GUI has very limited styles/configurations.
unimesh genesis DOES appear in the installed programs list.
400Mb plus download > 100Mb DS3A download.
my friend, you come pretty damn close to calling me a liar, not good.
maybe you can actually backup your near slander with some facts?

Quote - Why exactly don't you like the new version? I mean, I'm a loyal Poser user and while I have DS3A, there are a few things that have kept me from using it. I'm just curious to see if others have the same reasons ;). If we could do that without having a major Daz-bashing contest, that would be awesome...lol.
FWIW, the reason I use Poser rather than DS is because of 1: The DS plugin structure. I just don't like it. It does work well for some programs like Vue, but for core functionality (which I consider to be advanced shaders and dynamic cloth for example) I don't want it coming from 3rd parties where the plugin could either be broken with a core program update or a vendor who is here today and gone tomorrow. 2: As nuts as Poser's material room makes me, a lot of it still makes some sense. The DS materials are incomprehensible.
Those are my biggest two. I'm not too keen on the DS interface, but I can muddle my way thru it and I'm sure in time I'd get used to it, but the other stuff bugs me enough that I won't even stick with it that long ;).

Thread: Can't install DAZ content | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
always choose 'daz studio' to install to. also, with W7 you must have the runtimes outside the Program Files area. Vista and W7 does not like any wtriteback to the Program Files.
there will be no issues with Poser's built in runtime as that is part of the initial install.
but any extra content will need an external runtime, otherwise W7 is likely to shunt your new content off to a hidden temp folder.
scripts etc, must still be installed to the core app.
also, if you use some of thiose handy python scripts by D3D, you might need to get a .dll file off the net and install it to the appropriate folder in the (x86) folder. ( sorry, cannot remember the actual name of the .dll atmo, but W7 64 bit does not have it on install )

Thread: Poser 7 external runtime help required. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Reinstalled Poser 7. Didn't change a thing. 3anson, what is SR3? I tried the other methods prescribed by yourself beforehand to no avail.
SR3 >>> Service Release 3
if there is a runtime folder inside a runtime folder, Poser will only recognise the first runtime folder it sees. if that folder only contains another "runtime" folder, Poser will not see anything except the outer runtime folder.
Thread: Poser 7 external runtime help required. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
make sure you have SR3 installed.
to add a runtime in P7 , you must select the actual 'Runtime'
for instance , if you have a 'Characters' runtime , find it in the browse window, and click on the containing folder (ie Characters) then select 'Runtime' and accept it.
Poser will then recognise the library as "Characters"
typical pathing >>> " F:/Characters/Runtime/.................
always choose 'Runtime' as the folder to add, Poser will recognise the library and name it accordingly

The other problem with Windows 7 is the folder Document and Settings that has the access forbiden and you even can't know what is inside. All the trash is inside this folder and this folder grows for ever. I don't know how to make this folder have the access open to clean all the trash inside.
i too was puzzled about these folders. on asking a couple of code jockeys, they told me that they are nothing but 'placeholders' that redirect queries etc to the new folder setup in W7. access is totally locked because nothing is actually inside them except a little bit of OS coding. my thoughts are that they are needed for older legacy bits of the OS to work properly.

try rendering in a 'separate process' , you can set it with a tick box in the render tab of 'general preferences' ( from the 'edit' menu) you can also set how many threads on your CPU that Poser can use.
