Thread: (OT) OMG!!!! YESSSSSSSSS!!!! (New Job) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Congratulations Acadia!!
nurses are very underated in their pay for what they do. it is a calling, not a job.
i admire anyone who does this sometimes, thankless job.
hope you have many, many happy years there!
Thread: Poser and 4 gigs of RAM on XP SP3? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
thankyou, ghonma!
the /3GB switch allowed me to finish a scene that had proved unrenderable previously ( i have 3Gb of physical ram installed )
on advice from a very well paid and knowledgeable IT consultant, i nervously edited my .boot.ini on both machines, to full success.
the reason for the HU was that due to something unforseen, this action resulted in a boot up failure for my friend.
as i stated before, we subsequently found out that the Intel Centrino CPU is an oddity in that it will throw a fit if you use the /3GB switch.
of course the /3GB switch has no effect if the app you are using is not itself, ' large address aware'
as stated in the Microsoft document, the /3GB switch has no useful effect in a 64bit OS ( windows), in fact is detrimental to performance.
Thread: Poser and 4 gigs of RAM on XP SP3? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
as an heads up to all, a friend of mine has a Centrino CPU powered laptop/notebook, and to her cost found that trying the /3GB switch borks the whole boot up sequence in XP 32bit.
was informed by an IT tech co-worker that the Centrino series will not work properly if made 'large address' aware in a 32bit OS
Thread: Poser 8 promo.. Are things going bad ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
magazine reviews are not that reliable. simple economics, piss off the product vendor/creator/developer with poor reviews, lose their advertising = economic suicide.
at the least, the company will never let them have a product to review again = less interesting editorial = less readers= less circulation > magazine dies.
only reviews worth reading are those by actual everday users, on public forums.
Thread: Partner wanted | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Hi Richard,
you may get more interest if you started a thread in the Commons at DAZ3D.
this forum is not that busy. you would also get more response if you wanted them converted for Poser as well ( only real difference between the apps is the materials)
i am presuming that the vehicles, etc have not been UV mapped?
Thread: Go from DAZ to JPEG without losing quality | Forum: DAZ|Studio
if you want a decent quality
render larger than the viewport  ie:- render to file or new window.
for print render to at least 3000 pixels on the longer side. (depending on size of print)
for upload to most galleries render at 1200/1400 pixels on the longer side.
save as .tif format.
for upload to online gallery convert to .jpg using a good app
( 'export as' , from the file menu in PaintShopPro, 'save for web' in Photoshop, Gimp has something similar and i believe there is a free app called 'picture resizer' available)
most galleries have a file size limit of around 5/600 Kb.
a picture rendered at 3000 X 3000 pixels can still look good, on screen, compressed to 500Kb.
my usual render size for most images is 1200 pixels on the longest side.
hope that helps.
Thread: Poser's RAM usage | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
if the OS is still 32bit, adding more than 4Gb of ram is a pointless exercise ( if PC ).
AFAIKÂ Poser can only access up to 2Gb of ram as an application, but if it is 'large address aware'
using the /3GB switch in the boot.ini may help with the out of memory problem.
i had a problem with a scene in DS3A 32 bit, could not render it.( i have 3 Gb of physical ram installed ) altered the boot.ini to /3GB and the scene rendered fine.
Thread: ABSOLUTE newbie.... help please! | Forum: DAZ|Studio
there is a tip that stops the crash when doing a search.
find your  'application data'  folder. usually in the   **documents and SettingsAdministrator ** folder,
in that folder you should find a  DAZ3D  folder, open it and find the **'Studio3'  ** folder.
in that folder you should find 'resources' in that folder is one called  'ContentMapFiles', rename it and make a new empty folder with the original name.
if the resources folder is not there,
look in  ** DAZ3D  ** in Program Files.
no more crashes when searching for content!
hope you can follow that happy smiley
Thread: OT: what's your 3D strength / weakness? An informal poll | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
postwork, not being able to achieve much in any paint program( without snafuing everything ) limits me in the pictures i can create. so i tend to do more character portrait type images than anything else.
Thread: Poser 8 not working and ruining my computer | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
" parts of Internet Explorer have not been incorporated into Poser 8. The new Poser 8 library system was created with Adobe AIR. It uses IE components and the FlashPlayer for some functions"
sorry, you have contradicted yourself in that statement.
parts and components are the same thing.
and as the new library is a part of Poser 8, it is incorporated into the app.
and as the OP stated, Poser 7 works fine on his/her rig, ergo :- the app is the problem, not the OPs rig.
Thread: Poser 8 not working and ruining my computer | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
as the OP uses CCleaner, probably regularly, and they have a fairly new machine. the problems are unlikely to be caused by extraneous files and a bloated registry. nor should it need defragging just yet.
i have no idea how to explain all the xml files, but the problems with net access could well be laid at Poser8's door, for the simple reason that parts of MS Internet Explorer have been incorporated into the app, and it may well be messing with the OP's access ports.
Thread: it was nice playing with poser 8 until I started to try and seriously use it | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
apparently a complaint was made about the behaviour of some posters.
i have noticed a distinct lack of posts from a few people.
