Well, that is interesting. I have installed the latest version of linux mint and I was able to install poser 2014, Daz Studio, both running but with some issues., I trying to fix this evening. Poser 11.2 is also installed, but it freezes right after the start. The UI is open, LaFemme is in the view port, but I can't do anything else. Would you care to explain your installation steps, maybe I have done something wrong. 12rounds posted at 6:12AM Mon, 16 December 2019 - #4373479
I''ve been running Poser in linux for over a decade. The newest Poser 11.2 worked right out of the box with a current stable wine. I have no Windows installations and have not had any for quite a while. My current system is Ubuntu 16.04 but it worked in a newer 18 series as well when I tried it. The only things so far that I have had faced are that I can not select my NVidia for GPU rendering (it's grayed out) and FireFly rendering (although FireFly rendering works ok with my Poser Pro 2014 in wine). Neither is of no consequence to me since I vastly prefer Superfly anyway. Just my two cents.

Thank you so far, the Tutorials come up quicker than I can trying them out. The Text tool needs an overhaul, don't you think? It's a bit stubborn and sometimes unpredictable in its results. I wish gimp had an layer effects dialog like PS had. There are most effects, like emboss and drop shadow, all in one dialog. I will trying the text to path tutorial later today, maybe I get it to work and letting you know. Have a nice one.
Thread: A new Graphic Card for an old fellow... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Glad you ask! Yesterday my nvidia RTX 1050 Ti arrived from Amazon. I mounted the thing into my old fellow and they are working just fine together. Poser, DS and Blender are quite happy with the new card. Regardless of the fact that this card is not the newest and strongest in the portfolio, I can say, it cuts the render time in poser in half. DS is new to me, therefore i can't say anything substantial, but the preview is fast and accurate as hell. I use Blender to build things so the render time is actually not that much of a deal, but I've done some testing in cycles and Evi. Looks very good and it renders pretty fast as well. So, it seems, i made a good purchase because of a good advice.

I did not mean that your comment was bad or wrong. I actually thought it was funny. Just wanted to share some additional details on this topic. I stopped using Photoshop at the point where they introduced the cloud system, not so much because of the monthly payment, that is actually cheaper then purchasing a new bundle every time they make a new version. The thing is, you always have to have a internet connection to work with the Program. There is a timeout of 12 days, if I recall correctly, after this time the Program will refuse to work. That's like a gun, pointing to my head. I call that blackmailing. After this was a given fact, I searched for an alternative and found Gimp. It was not that good back then, but it does the job. Nowadays, after the big update earlier this year, it works better, has its flaws, but it has all I need. So, no offense!

Sure, the name has a double meaning. And a lot of Photoshop enthusiasts has call names on gimp. There is even a small group of Gimp users who want to grab the code and re-name the Program. But nonetheless, it's a great piece of software and it's free in more than one way.

"Bring out the gimp." "the gimp's sleeping." "Well, I guess you'll have to wake him up, now won't you?"

EClark1894 You aren't oversharing, but you are sometimes to quick to follow. I got my copy of the latest Gimp and I'm reinstalling my plugins right now. And I appreciate every tutorial that you suggested. There is a very good tutorial channel on YouTube called mygimptutorials from a german guy by the name of Michael. He is quite a Gimp geek and the tuts are in german, so maybe some germans her in the Forum might know him as well. I was searching for a variety of topics this morning, one was advice for a new Graphics card and the other topic was the backing of body morphs on a poser figure. I remembered that I have seen something that a guy named Tony Vilters did on his YouTube channel. But all the content is gone. I also remember, that you know the guy from the former Poser Forum on SM. Do you know why he deleted all his stuff. Hope nothing severe is happened. Thank for the Tutorials so far. I stay tuned for more.

Thread: Anyone here watching - or has watched - Dark? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Its not that easy to talk about a movie or a TV-Series without giving to much away or to spoil the whole thing. Therefore i just talked about the 80s. The funny thing is, after i watched the show the first time, i was trying to recreate the enterance of the tunnel/bunker for a project of mine, but it turned out to difficult for my modelling skills.

I'm german and i have seen the entire first season.
I liked it very much. The time frame for the story is the 80s in Germany and all revolves around an atomic power plant and a little town near by.
Born in the late 60s, i was a teenager in that time, like most of the characters in Dark.
I can relate to them, it was like watching a part of my one history.
I don't know if some of you know this, but this periode of time was full of fear and depression, because of a potential nuclear holocaust during the cold war here in europe.
This feeling is very well captured and i would recommend Dark as a must-watch.
I have not seen models or scenes inspiriert by the series yet, but my favorit scenery was the bunker and the tech-chair-thing.

@EClark1894 The Beta-Testing by members of the Forum is a really good idea. I will keep that in mind if i have something worth sharing. Thanks again. @EnglishBob Ah, that rings a bell. The program version C4D r12 is about 9 years old and i tryed many plugins for it, but i don't remember all of them. I most likely heard of the Riptide Plugin and i will check it out. I do remember that i had years ago the problem that a obj file in C4D can have more then one Material, but after importing this obj file into poser, it has only one material left. In this context i might have come across Riptide. Thank you as well!
Thread: So, You Survived Halloween 2019... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Her in Germany Halloween is and was not a big thing. But i have made the observation that the amount of visits to my door is dependend on if i have candy stored or not. Everytime i did not makt it to the supermarket to buy some sweets for the kids, they come as a crowd and i hand out some money, like 50 Cents each or so, to not let them down. Last year i was prepared, i had candy, something called Lakritz, very popular, some chocolates and Gummibärchen (if you don't know the latter, google it, a live without them is not a live!) And you probably guessed it... no one showed up. To test this hypothesis, we moved to another place this year and my wife purchased some candy without letting me know about it. It worked, no one visits our door, i from now on will call this the Blackbonner Theorie of correlation beween the amount of sweets in a home and the numbers of kids how knocks on this homes door. Or in short terms, the Halloween Contradiction.

@EClark1894 Okay, i get that. So, what do i have to do to avoid this? More specific ask, is there a program, that handles vertex and faces like poser does? Or did i do the right thing with my little work around i described earlier? I mean, it works for me, but the next step would be to create a free prop or a product to sell it here on Renderosity. I don't want to mess up other peoples work with a broken item of mine.

Thanks to all of you. There is lots of stuff I have to check now. @eclark1894 Yes, I use Cinema 4D r12 for building my props and i re-imported the obj file to create the morphs. I noticed that the c4d obj file is smaller in terms of the amount of kilobits. After my work around [import the file, exporting it back without touching it at all] the file size is significantly higher. If I open the file next to the original once in c4d there is no difference in faces or poly count. The geometry is still the same. Hm...strange?! I sometimes have made very special experiences with my poser version because I use a german licence on a PC, set to the german keyboard and language. This has previously caused problems a native English user did not experience. For example, in my version OP 11.1 there was no way to use the 3d-path tool. It was simply not available, not even grayed out, it was literally not in the build. I had to change the keyboard and system language to get it to work. Nowadays the problem is solved, it works properly now in the german version. But again, thank you all for your thoughts and ideas.
