Thread: How did he do this? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Lzh is an archive standard actually rather better than .zip but which got left behind. The original utility is the DOS program lha.exe, but most archiving programs should support this format.
Thread: Vicky 2.0 and a question (well, rant really) on Vicky in general | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
One thing I don't like about Vicky is that she's such a pain to import into Bryce. I understand the need to make the head texture a separate file, but it was a bad design decision to put the interior mouth parts in the body texture. It makes it uneccessarily hard to select all the body parts that use each texture file. A little more thought could have avoided this problem.

I wish some things could be uninvented - mass downloaders, bulk emailers, pop-up windows ... all things that just cause trouble. Best wishes, Lannie!

Thread: Poser to Bryce, do I need to upgrade? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
1)Bryce 4 does read the figure names properly. There is still some work to be done when using Bryce 4, but really it does make life a bit easier. Also you should get an upgrade price rather than having to pay the full cost. 2) But Bryce 3 is still quite usable even with very complex scenes. (I've done five figures, all with clothes and props, in a setting with several thousand objects, without too much difficulty.) Here are some tips: A - Bryce always imports an .obj so that the largest dimension is 40.96. In Poser, create a prop that is a vertical stick bigger than anything else. Include it in all your exports. As soon as you import into Bryce, delete the stick. But all your imports will be correctly scaled! Note: you need to do this in Bryce 4 as well, so get into the habit. B - If you do this, you can open a new Bryce document for each figure while you texture them, and then copy and paste them all into your final scene. C - Alternatively, don't forget solo mode. It can be a life-saver. 3) Make sure you have Bryce 3.1 and not 3.0. Doing this in 3.0 is a nightmare because the selection tool is buggy.

This could just save me SOOOOO much work. I can't wait to try it out. Many thanks to CJ Cigas for making it, and jade for sharing the information. Without this forum I would never have known about it. I'm happy! I'm happy!
Thread: March Challange Entries | Forum: Bryce
Sorry, but it says 1900-1950, not 1914-1918/1939-1945 (for Europe) or 1917-1918/1941-1945 (for USA). This is not my idea of history!
Thread: 1,000 downloads! wow! (and update on upcoming Free stuff) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm sure I don't need to say that many people will download free stuff just in case they want it someday, but would only buy the same item if they really needed it. So don't expect 4,000 sales ...
Thread: March Challange Entries | Forum: Bryce
But really! City scene 1900-1950?? And all anyone can think of is war and destruction? Since when do aerial combat pictures constitute a "city scene"? Or a few shattered buildings in a muddy landscape, for that matter? I think februus wins by default for having the only picture that looks remotely like a city scene, even if it is in ruins, but really, what a gloomy lot. Perhaps if the theme was WW2 battles, all the entries would be happy families listening to the radio :)
Thread: newbie needs help ... imported poser textures | Forum: Bryce
Bryce seems to do odd things reading a mtl file. It sets the diffusion channel to the texture, and a strength of maybe 80; ambience is black with a strength of 100 and specularity is 100 whether you want an oily look or not. I've never found a way of fixing this automatically, so I have to adjust it by hand. Set diffusion and ambience to the texture and juggle around to get sensible settings depending on your image.

Thread: poser textures......Art ?or just textures | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hmm - seems to me it depends what you consider art. Is a texture expressive of anything? Or just pretty? Or just something skillfully done? I can't see myself framing a printout of a Poser texture file any time soon.
Thread: Should I post this to freestuff? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
These look very nice and I would find them useful also; thanks Eric! BTW Has anyone ever seen anyone answer a request like this with a response "no, this is boring, don't post it"? Just wondering ... :)
