Is there a limit to the amount of sub parented items that are then parented to main items. Example; The Outer flashingsor skirt parented to the ceiling which is then parented to the roof which is then parented to the Bottom Floor. Theres a big family for ya. Children, Parents, Grand Parents, Great Grand Parents Great-Great Grand Parents. Just how deep can it get? Scott
Thread: parenting questions | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Sorry It took me two days to get back to this.
I've been getting my ducks in a row, so to speak.
I've had problems doing it both ways.
1st the error I spoke of getting.
It is after parenting everything via "HE" to my Bottom floor.
The error "Multiple Root Actors found, check parenting".
My only option then is "OK" then all my nails loosen & my house goes haywire. :)
I believe I solved this.
6 of the items were figures I created from Parented props then loaded onto me house. My work around was to create a new figure from these, though it took one texture accross it's materials, (see below), it was one material so no biggie.
I parented the remaining props to the bottom floor and now can move the entire house from it. :) Very good big step forward.
If I try to make a new figure either from "HE" or export, my new figure comes out all wood, no other textures. (I can live with loosing trancparencies and reflections re; as Geep stated).
As a test I created a new creation using those props with multiple textures and exported to an obj. Once again it came in with one texture.
The textures are in two or possibly three different locations all within Posers main texture folder.
Can't think of any other possible reasons.
Next to other things on my agenda these next few days I'ld realy like to figure this out.
MINFIG.
All previous trys included moving all figures & props.
I haven't tryed to do this excluding the 6 figures I speak of above. I will ASAP.
Parenting everything makes Poser unstable, good word. ")
And then when saving or closing... Crash. :(
I have been succesful at using MINFIG and definetly see it's use in past & future projects. Many Thanks.
Hopefully I will figure out this current prob thus widening it's usefullness. Thanks.
One other note maybe of importance...
Using Poser 6 & a Mac
Much & many Thanks! Scott
Thread: Changing poses moves the postion of my figure? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It was the 1st reply. Many thanks to all. I have a habit of, when wanting to move an entire charactor selecting their hip to do so. I've also been working with Angelynas Wings & that habit is selecting the wing base to position it, apply a pose and I would have to repostion the wings to the figures back again. :( When applying a pose I now make sure "Body" is selected. This did the trick. :) Thankyou All!!! :) Scott
Thread: Objects Files Questions | Forum: Poser Technical
Hey SAMS3D. I have a few of your freebies. ") Great Stuff! Many thanks!!! Unfortunetly my Solidworks expert, brother/engineer is in another state. We do e-mail back and forth but both being real busy sometimes there are gaps between replys. I am waiting now to hear back about all above replys. Many Thanks. Before his Company switched over to Solidworks he was using AutoCad. Do you think this is a better program for making items that can be used "flawlessly" in Poser? You have some great items available! Were they AutoCad? I know nothing about this end of it and am craving to know more. Between the 2 of us I think we can create some incredible stuff. I've given up twice already but as you can see I'm still interested. Thanks Huge for adding in here. I really appreciate it. UV mapper (the full version) unfortunetly is only avail on PC's. I have one here at home but it's not a strong machine, the simplest things take years.;) So I don't even look at it. The only place I can use UVM is at work and it's tuff most times to putt everything aside to figure things out. I will have to look into that a bit more when I get back to work over this weekend. Miss Nancy; yes it's definetly only showing one material. CAGE; He said that their were no options when saving it to obj. The plugin he got 3rd party so I'm not sure if maybe their might be some other better plugin or not. Thanks to all! Scott

Yes very good. But what if the objects I select are different textures and some with TMaps? Unless I'm doing something wrong my new obj is coming in using only one of the original items textures on it all. Scott

Can't wait for it's arrival. ") Hope you do well with it. And thanks for the above notes. I had also wondered about "chains of items" coming along. You know this house I built from Primitives. Having big trouble with parenting it. Mostly it's all loaded primitives with the "properganda scale" (spelling) having allready been fixed in an editor but some parts I parented & saved as new figures & loaded for other walls ect. Is there an easy way to group the whole thing so it can be moved as one? I will edit it in text but it's confusing as all, there must be some other "easy" way. :/ Scott

I hadn't noticed the other morning... This is your Feebie.Thanks. :)
WOW!
Text editing. Yikes.
I'll need some time to digest all this.
See link.
Other then parenting some of these props structures together, I gave up trying to parent it all together.
My hopes were to parent everything to the floor but when I do I get a "same root name error" or something to that effect & then certain items get thrown out of place.
I previously changed all the scale names in a text editor so nothing resizes but still I can not parent it all into one.
I haven't tryed yet parenting them to your minfig.
I imagine I will get the same root name error.
I'll work more on this folowing your notes & I'll get over to PoserPros and take a look at that thread to.
Many Thanks!
Scott

I was going to reply to this yesterday but decided I needed to do a few more tests first.
I spend more time adjusting lights then any other single thing. So I had a good set why mess about trying to recreate them?
Some day maybe I'll understand better what I'm doing and then create new light sets on the fly.
Till then... This was just what I needed, it helped alot.
As lesbentley stated internal names need to be changed.
Originaly the new set removed some of my old lights & eventualy Poser crashed. No biggie I've been through much worse.
In the long run it worked great!
I'm now curious what else I can use this for.
Anyway Thanks to SVDL for the link & lesbentley for the assurance I wasn't crazy.")
A great addition to my library.

I think your on to something here. :) The results were very interesting. But... What if p1 & p2 have different textures? I exported my house and imported it, it came in with one texture, the Redwood. Looked nice. :) But not quite what I wanted. By changing the propagatingScale I was able to parent most of the sections together, Roofs, Decks ect. but when parenting it all to say the 1st floor I got an error something about multiple somethings. Darn I should of written it down. My drum kit worked without exporting. It's 27 parented figures I can load it into any file flawlessly. The house... A different story. Basicaly I've been just starting with the house file adding figures & doing a save as. Don't worry about late chimes. I'm closer now. I can feel it. Thanks. Scott

I bought it. I loaded it. I rendered it. Then I explored it. ") I don't know how this will go but I'm thinking I could create Transparencies to get better camera views in the hull. Either way it's going to work just great for what I need it for. Haven't pushed the envelpe yet as far as rendering goes but I am most definetly happy with what I've rendered so far & the purchase for sure. Thanks Huge for the positive thoughts. Scott

On Febuary 18 or maybe it was a day earlyer, I put together the props for the above image. That's when I got the idea to give this a try.I began putting together another house but when parenting it together I messed it up beyond repair and had to start again.
That probably put me at Feb 22 as the begining day.
A couple hours a day but missed a few days here and there and was away last weekend.
Hmmm... I'ld have to say Two weeks maybe 20 to 25 hours ball park figure. That includes much learning & test renders to.
Lighting is always a pain. Render adjust, render adjust, ect...
And now the "fun" part. Adding figures that should slow things up a bit.

Thanks again.

Excellent! I must admit I haven't spent enough time reading what's available here. It's a tad confusing spread out in these forum style pages. But your knowledge of Poser is very vast & your layouts very fun! Thus I can not wait for it all neatly on cd. ") And whats that I read over on your site? CD Dedicated to... And here with all your knowledge I thought you were Larry. ;) Scott
