The responses appear to be missing the point that EClark was getting at. He wasn't asking about specifically how to make a perfect character or any such thing. He was asking, assuming all those conditions are met (which it can be safely implied is impossible), would the figure be a success if it were only Poser compatible. He was basically making a jab at DAZ for releasing the Genesis figure (initially, at least) as a DS-only compatible figure, and asking if the same scenario is even conceivable in reverse.
Would any other developer possess the hubris to do such a thing, and could anyone but DAZ get away with such shenanigans?
In the spirit of playing along with the original question, yes I do think it could be successful. Many (probably most) of the products for sale here in the Marketplace don't even mention whether they're DAZ Studio-compatible, and I'd assume most DS users just assume some possiblity of compatibility issues when they buy products or download freebies. Most serious hobbyist 3Ders will have Poser, and they'll buy it, and the vendors will then support it. Studio users will get what they paid for.

Are you running a newer version of Poser on an old system? Are you running an older version of Poser on a new system? Does your system meet the recommended system requirements?
When you purchase a Poser figure, the merchant should list what required products (M4, H4, M4 Morphs++) you need to have installed in order to use their product. If you're getting the error, it's probably because you're missing one of those things. As for the program freezing, even if you get an error, that shouldn't normally happen, so something may be less than ideal with your system. If it's an older version of Poser, you may try running it in Compatibility mode for an older version of Windows?
(also, if it's an old used box version you got from somewhere, you might also wanna check and see if there was a patch released that would fix some of the stability issues)

I may not have correctly understood, but if you're just looking for a way to organize your content, you could just go into the Libraries folder (in Windows) and create subdirectories manually. You shouldn't need to move the Geometry or texture files (unless they're in the same subdirectory as the prop itself, which is kinda unorthodox). That's what I do, so all my V4 clothes are in one place, all my vehicle props in one place, etc. Moving your Characters and Props into new subdirectories (within their correct Library) shouldn't affect how they work in Poser because they'll still be able to reference their geometry and texture files just as easily.
But then, I may be answering the wrong question.

Ooh, forgot to include the url for the SmithMicro page, in case anyone else has this problem:

Okay, I popped over to SmithMicro and found the solution in their ProductAnswers section. Apparently, even though I switched external drives, Poser keeps its preferences files locked away deep within the dark recesses of my Local Disk. So I had to close out Poser, go into C->UserName->AppData->Roaming->Poser 7, and then remove the preference files:
Poser.ini
LibraryPrefs.xml
UIPrefs_1600x900.xml
After that, I can happily report that Poser 7 is now working on my external drive... as well as can be expected!

Here's a screenshot of what I'm getting. All of the Libraries are completely blank, and whenever I click on them, I get that obnoxious error message.

I'd have to second Mattymanx. Poser does, in theory, allow everyone to have access to the tools they need to do their own illustrations, but you need a certain gift and skillset in order to be able to do so at a professional level. If I saw any of these covers in a bookstore, I'd probably look because I'm a Poser user and I'd be morbidly fascinated, but to most people it just looks like really cheap CG (which it sorta is).

Oh, okay. Gotcha!
I uninstalled Poser and disconnected the drive in frustration, but I'll give it another go later when I calm down!

Sooo... if I'm understanding this right (and I'm probably not), what you're recommending is, instead of installing it with the disc (which is what I did), I shoud just copy-paste my existing Poser 7 files from the E: drive to the F: drive?

Thanks for responding, rokket!
I installed it in F:Program Filese Frontier
Basically, just changed the C: to F: and left the rest alone.
