I do not use modern Photoshop because it is taking my money week in, week out. I prefer to buy things and own them wherever possible - like hard-copies of books. Then, when I want o take them from the shelf I can do so, without relying on external connections and the whims of publishers. DRM using the cloud is definitely not for me, and neither is a subscription service. I have thoroughly enjoyed being addicted to DS for a year or so, but once the pleasure wears off, I am out of here. Why can't companies realise that the people they have on baord should be cherished?

Thread: Passing characters from Poser to DS (and vice-versa) | Forum: New Poser Users Help
Thanks. So, if I understand this, I create a character in Poser, but I can't transfer that character to DS. Does the same apply to things like clothes, hair, etc?

@hborre, I was thinking of people. I generally use G2 and G3F. Is this what you mean?

Thread: missing smart content | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Try clicking on the Default element. I will be surprised if non Daz items show up - I usually seem to end up searching My Library through explorer (Windows) and noting the location of files before going to them through the Daz Contents pane. I also sometimes simply click on an item, which then opens DS with the item in it and then somehow becomes visible - If you want belt and braces save it as a Daz Content/My Library whatever. Another useful tip is to search the Poser part of Daz in the Content pane - again, I find things I can't find otherwise. Hope this helps.

Thread: Anyone else having trouble buying artists work due unrelated advertising | Forum: Community Center
I am pretty sure that the new site and layout is affecting my use. I am buying fewer items, and have simply become confused by the complex Byzantine structure. The adverts are annoying and lead me to close down far more readily. And frankly, they are not making me stronger Herr Nietzsche!

I'm interested to hear that you unzip direct to My Library. So often I have bought stuff and then not immediately unzipped it. I have found that having it in a discreet folder section allows me to easily confirm whether the unzip has happened. It is a bit of hassle, but it does seem to work for me, and I can also check those unzipped files to identify a specific object or whatever and see the directory structure, since DIM doesn't usually help with third-party stuff as efficiently as with Daz items.

Thread: CANNOT IMPORT ITEMS I BOUGHT FROM RENDEROSITY | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I usually unzip to a specific 'unzipped' folder, keeping the basic name of the original file (to check I have actually unzipped rather than simply downloaded). I then copy the resulting files across to My Library, but check that they are in a vaguely similar structure first. You can have (say) Runtime/Runtime folders, but it is best to avoid it if you can. I have some, mainly due (I think) to ignorance when beginning. You will probably be asked about whether to save or discard duplicate license files. I usually say keep both as they are for different makers and products usually. Mind, finding the right license can then be a fag if you are so minded. If new to this, and therefore able to be sensible rather than wildly excitably enthusiastic, I recommend immediately renaming the relevant license to reflect the specific package, but it's up to you.

Not sure whether it will do what you want, but look at http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/artzone/pub/software/symmetry/start
Alternatiely copy the item as suggested above and change the horizontal scale (probably the X-scale) to -100% as suggested by cunningf
I am assuming DS rather than Poser....

Thread: CHANGES MADE TO TOS | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Thanks. I thought they might be new, but of course one rarely revisits the TOS after initial checks!
Terms like trolling are slightly new to people like me, but I hope that it does not prevent robust discussions. In the academic world heated argument is often the flame in which new ideas are forged.

I am not a fan of subscription based pricing or cloud availability. So far CS6 works like charm for me. CS2 would be too old for me, now that I am used to CS6.
You and me both. As you get older you realise that subscription-based service is a means for a supplier to fleece you and continually amend the rulels of the game. As for so-called cloud storage, it is madness on more than one count. 1. it works well enough if you have good access to broadband services. six miles from a population centre of 12000 or more I am licky to get 2.4mbs download and 0.4mbs upload, which is not conducive to using the cloud.
Free online services (and even non-free ones) are prone to suddenly changing thins. It is possible to without warning find (as I have family who did) that literally thousands of images have suddenly disappeared because the company closes, or changes its rules.
Online services are hacked. This is not to say that offline, private, ones aren't, but if data theft is the aim, it is probably more productive to hit the big organisations than the 750gb hard drive of Agatha Shuttlebotham in Lesser Wapping in the Wold.
I have found that I can often find myself in situations where there is simply no access to the Internet, and I don't have to be miles off the beaten track. Much of the UK has no mobile phone signals, and even more does not have even 3G, let alone 4G. Yet the industry and government are constantly putting more access and more power and more usability into the hands of the same conurbations where other forms of access to data and communications are rife.
I have not found a good reason to move forward from those Photoshop programs I have been able to buy outright, and frankly, if it becomes necessary to do so, I shall move to much cheaper ones that are not generally less endowed (and do some things far better), such as Photo Plus. It is a pity, because for whatever reason PS(E) is my go-to program, but I don't know for how much longer.

Thread: Cup sizes and Dials | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I have Measure Metrics, but have never been terribly successful using it. I doubt if that is the fault of the program though - I think you have to register, and I probably forgot, and I am hopeless at reading instructions - not to mention actually working at making the program do what I want. I don't think it was a lot of money, so if it helps, try it - perhaps even ask the merchant. I'm pretty sure that cup size was not a parameter, though. But despite being intensely interested in female anatomy and underwear since childhood, I can't in all honestly say I have ever truly understood the arcane mysteries of women's bra sizes (and I suspect a lot of women don't either - no offence intended).
I am old enough to recall the 36-24-36 norm, like you, although it never really appealed to me.The Venus de Milo is said to be 51, 38, 47, which would be about 32, 24, 30, so nothing like 36, 24, 36 - not that the hips can be other than an estimate. Even so, she is one of the classical beauties, although I always preferred the Nike of Samothrace, whose vital statistics do not seem to have been measured.....
I certainly dislike the overblown features that are so prevalent in the world of 3D models and imagery - women are rarely like them. Massive mammalian attributes are anathema.to me, and I so wish that more natural lips were available as the norm - I find it difficult to impossible to get lips that do not look as if they are pouty. A recently-issued figure has what in the UK are described as trout lips. I will not be buying that figure, because the lips are taken to absurd (and I think ugly) proportions.
But we all have different tastes, so who am I to point a finger, let alone many?

Thread: Download a free stuff to my dazstudio 4.8 | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I wonder whether escalibur47 is atually asking how to download DIM (Download Install Manager) and then DS 4.8? If so, as I recall, you go to the Daz website and follow the download instructions. Once you have Dim installed on your computer opening it will reveal the files which are available for downloading, including (presumably) DS 4.8. Almost all stuff bought through the Daz site works through the DIM and they are also easily findable in the Content Management System (CMS) of DS.
The problem, as stated, arises with files downloaded through other suppliers, of which Renderosity is in my view the main contender. The structures are rarely (although I think it is improving) quite the same as native Daz ones, and they don't normally have the metadata that makes them easily discoverable in DS CMS. I have found that opening items through Windows Explorer, using DS as the program for opening them, often makes them visible for at least that session, and you can, of course, save them as scene subsets which DS CMS then finds, but it is a fag. You can also add the metadat yourself, but even I with a brain the sizeof a planet (admittedly, a small one) have not been able to confidently master that, largely because it is long-winded, takes ages and is not easy to remember.
Normally for downloading files from third-parties, I unzip them to a specific folder within an overall 'unzipped files' folder normally giving the folder the same name as the base item (eg wombat-by-malwat - which does not exist). It can be a single unzip or it may be several, depending on the complexity and the producer's whims. Then I examine that folder, and hopefully it will be nice and simple with just Runtime as the main folder and then sub-folders such as Documentation, Textures, etc. I usuall copy these sub-folders lock, stock and barrel into the 'My Daz 3D Library' which for reasons best known to others is in C:/Users/Public/Public Documents (I think that is the default setting, and have not messed with it).
With luck and a fair breeze, I may then find files.......I strongly advise making notes of what you buy as I have several thousand models and don't remember most of them. Fortunately sites like Daz and Renderosity tell you if you have already bought something.
Hope this helps, and if anything is wrong with my cunnignsystem, perhaps someone will tell me!

Thanks Kimberly.
PS, it took me ages to get the thumbnail and main image right, even though both seemed to be at the right size at my end. Is there an idiot's process I can follow? For example, a really small thumbnail was still too large despite really dropping the quality.
