This stuff is modeled in Hexagon, and rendered in Modo.http://www.thebest3d.com/3dstickers/Catalog-Images/catalog.html you certainly can create well in Hexagon. But Carrara is great for it too. They each are tools with merits. Try either and decide which you like more. $20 is nothing.

Also depends on the partition type of the file system ... Fat32. Is a problem. Stay with NTFS

Good stuff Mark, thanks. Do you ever post on Steam? There are many indie gamer developers there and a bunch could use your insights on Carrara+Unity, Unreal 4 and the free Torque engine too. We see quite a number of users there. Does Renderosity have a group for all game developers and their various game engines? Would be good. I made a few threads for some of the game engines under Howler 9.6 at Steam but it would better suit the gamedev community to have it easy to find and focus on the gamedev engines

I think the market will decide if it hits DAZ3D in their pockets or not, when merchants threaten to pull products. I used Bryce Pro 7.x ( wow, was it 5 already) and until recently, Hexagon 2.5 - which does not launch in my 64-bit system Windows 8.1.
Hex 2.5 won't launch on Windows 8.1? hm... I'll have to check on mine and see. Got more details about your config or errors seen?

Michel Agullo started with Amapi,One of his first creations, inspired by Pierre Bretagnolle's Amapi-phant:
Putting this on T-shirts is still a good idea.
of course, after so many washes, it can fade.
But elephants, much like Master Chief and the other 116 of them, they never die, they just go missing in action.
Michel later went on to Hexagon, and stayed with it: Hexagon for modeling, Modo for rendering. Even though Modo is a great modeler too, he keeps using Hexagon. Once you use a tool to its fullest extent, it's not about the tool, it's about the artist.See? the elephant has survived:
The tool never dies. I still use Amapi.
Here in San Diego, Hexagon is not gone - it is alive and very yummy. http://hexagonerestaurant.com
Sorry, had to add this joke. The Papillotte de Saumon was just too delicious.

Really? Spam?
Someone asks for help and I spend time looking for an answer and that's the perception?
What's going on?

Ah, yes I see, and it certainly adds a level of speed and flexibility. It's different.
We don't really do volumetrics either, it's particles that cover the areas in a way to mimic volumetrics. I guess you could say it's a hybrid between real volumetrics and your still images.
By-the-way, if they are in Jpeg, how do you manage to put transparency on it? or do you rather use the same image as both the color channel (greyscale clouds) and the opacity mask?
Would you let me have a sample to play with in PD Howler? like to place it behind our mountains?

Can you post one sample file?
Try googling for something with R+, R-, dvd recovery, data corrption
http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/free-file-recovery-software/recover-cd-dvd-disk.html
If their free software can't do it, I'd contact them to ask if they have a tool that can or a technique they can tell you about.

ah, sweet, would be interesting to turn them into volumetric 3D. We can map a bunch of such particles across the images, based on dark vs. bright elements. Then stack it up and look at it from slightly different angles. or add full twist and motion too. If you want me to try that on 2-3 Jpegs?
