Virus, Notice that your link entitled 'Renderosity' on your site actually links to http://www.renderocity.com which is Catharina's site. You may want to check out the Rendo Referral program at Jeff's link above & update the link. Tim

Virus, I hear you and understand your position. For those sites that have referrer links to Renderosity and are near the top of the web resources, we will manually transition you to the new system in a fair way. Thanks for linking to Renderosity & please update your link to include your referral id to reflect future activity. If other sites fall in this category, please contact me, Tim
Thread: Geocities membership needed for downloads? | Forum: Community Center
This is an interesting point. We've avoided the hosting of the Free Stuff in the past because of bandwidth usage. Do you think people would be interested in paying a small amount monthly for a no-hassle place to store their files? Could be a premium membership kind of arrangement that would include file space. Thread: "Members Only" How LAME!! | Forum: Community Center
We have heard from several artists who refer prospective customers to the Renderosity gallery to review their work. Obviously, we don't want to hinder this process, so the membership requirement for viewing the galleries has been removed. We continue to learn how to best serve the members here. Sometimes that will involve missteps as we try to find the balance the between the needs of the members and the revenues required to keep this site viable. As long as we maintain good communications, I'm sure that balance will occur. Tim Choate

STORM - you raise a fair question. We haven't had the circulation audited yet because as you know that cost a considerable amount of money and this site does not make much money at the present time. It seems unlikely that an audit would change that in the short term. So I think that leaves you saying you don't trust us to tell the truth. That's fair, but let's consider some circumstantial data. How long ago was it that Jack posted a message stating the membership had reached 25,000 and then a few weeks later he posted that it had reached 27,000. Did you believe him? Do you suspect that we are in collusion somehow? If you plot that growth trajectory where do you think it might put us about now in terms of members? Tim

I think the goal has to be to make this a place where the majority of the people feel comfortable and know they will not be subjected to insults or foul language just for having an opinion or question. The public trial was one way to create an awareness of the problem but maybe not the best way. Several people have asked why the article on the Dillinger vote was taken down. The reason is that the intent was not to embarrass anyone but rather to have the community members have input on what type of site they want this to be. There certainly are Jackites in the mix that will cause trouble for any reason and we have attempted to even let their voices be heard as long as it didn't become personal attacks or vulgarities. Time will tell whether this was a wise decision. Tim Choate

Double submission of forms is a common problem in all web applications. We don't have a good solution for it either. The only way would be compare the exact text of the messages.
Thread: An Observation | Forum: Community Center
The purpose of the vote was not to humiliate the member in question, it was to let the community have an opinion about how people should conduct themselves here. That was accomplished. The member has been banned and life goes on.
Thread: Renderosity Store & Our Private Info | Forum: Community Center
How do you guys feel about a member vote on the topic of banning Dillinger from the community based upon his anti-social behavior?

The private info required to process Credit Card transactions in the Store is never stored in a database. That's why it has to be re-entered each time.
