Thanks Kupa. Despite my complaints above, as a computer programmer and user for nearly fifteen years, I understand that any large change, improvement, or additions to an application are going to be fraught with unknowns and problems that'll only be weeded out by testing in the real world. I have to commend you guys on a great improvement overall. Although I have had Poser 4 Pro Pack since May and now Poser 5, I tally my total use at less than a month due to other engagements over the past three months or so. There is much to learn and master, but with your and the excellent Renderosity people's help, it should be mostly painless and definitely fun! Kuroyume

ceba: Yes, they're the specs you need to run P5 at any speed greater than slow. :) I have a dual 1GHz P3, 1.3GB RAM, 50GB HD (How did you afford that laptop? What was it, like $4000?) I'm using W2K Pro and there are definitely issues beyond 'cleaning system'. My install is fresh, as in reformat and reinstall, and only two months old. All drivers, patches, service packs (SP3), and firmware so uptodate that they haven't been released yet. ;0) Loading Hires Don crashes P5 every time on my system, the interface is dying on occassion, and things aren't totally working or correct (invisible material image maps that suddenly appear, eventually; material room can't decide on a compact scene display or the full one; parameters/properties palette keeps appearing when and where it shouldn't; some darn error appears at startup every once in a while; new dial values sometimes take 20-30 seconds to react). Things that I donot see in P4 Pro on the same system. Kuroyume

Is it the texture that distinguishes Hires Don from his siblings? Kuroyume

Thread: Poser 5 Figure Templates available!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thank you all for downloading and putting them to use! As for the net, some of the problem may be at my end. The machine that is serving the site is on a wireless network and there is some ongoing loss of connection to the WAP which was supposed to be fixed by a firmware patch to it. The only advice is to keep trying the site and I'll keep a watch for another patch. Kuroyume

Thread: Poser 5 Cloth Room | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If I read the manual correctly, the Create Simulation will "pre-drape" the cloth over the collision objects. "Calculate Drape: Clicking the Calculate Drape button calculates the cloth object's draping behavior and caches the simulation. When calculating the simulation, cached drape settlings are added before beginning cloth simulations, meaning that the settled cloth drape is at frame 1 before the simulation begins." What I get from this is that before any dynamics are added for animation effects (collision, motion, wind), the cloth is draped over objects that are set for collision with the drape. So you should be able to get a 'still image' of the draped cloth even without adding animation dynamics. Beyond that I can only guess since I'm not up to the point of playing with the cloth room. Thread: YAFRQ (Yet Another Face Room Question) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, okay. :) You can find the face texture that is being used in the Poser5/Runtime/textures/faceroom directory. Make a copy and load it into your fave paint program. The first thing that you'll notice is that the neckline is much lighter than the rest of the figure. You have a choice here: 1. Color the rest of the head texture to match that lighter color (or fade it more smoothly into the rest) OR 2. Darken the neckline and match that color up in the body texture. There aren't many real choices. The face texture must be fixed as the face room always does this. Check the Runtime/heads directory to see why this is happening. There is a transparency image that lets the default texture beneath bleed through at the neckline. You could edit this transparency image so that neckline is included in the face room texturing. Don't know what the results will be. As I am working with Asian figures, the default Don texture really sucks. I'm sticking with the smooth, tanned face created by the Face Room and creating a body texture to match. Good luck and let us know if you find any nifty ways around this. Kuroyume

Thread: YAFRQ (Yet Another Face Room Question) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Someone just answered that for me. Just apply the shape and not the texture in the Face Room. That way, you'll be using the default texture map for the character, which does not have that problem. Kuroyume

Thread: P5 rendering not too bad... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The effect is 'a sunny day', so there is a lot of light. The hair is black roots with bleached-blonde tips. Yes, it was draft firefly. I'll check the settings. There is a long way to go before all of this makes sense. Nearly read the manual - still have to thoroughly read the Materials and rendering sections. Kuroyume

Thread: P5 rendering not too bad... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks! I swear that he was wearing a choker during render. :) That's why I opted to make the texture templates for the P5 figures - to get some control over the texture and get rid of the default ones. I hope this isn't something that needs to be figured out in the Materials Room (darn shaders). That could take months... Kuroyume

Thread: RENDEROSITY DOWN tomorrow from 6-8 AM server time | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well... Oookay... I'll still have cigarettes and coffee... beer and assorted snacks... Yeah, that's it. Ummm, it shouldn't be a problem without Renderosity for ... just ... two ... hours. Right? Will there be an alternative site that fulfills that craving while you're down? Ok, nevermind. ;) Kuroyume P.S.: Best of luck!!
