Oh, please don't do it in PDF. I won't read it. I absolutely hate adobe reader! It's one thing to read tutorials and white papers from it but not a newsletter! HTML would be best I think.

This is a great site. I especially like the "brightness" rule he has provided to assist our ability to see the correct colours. My monitor always sees normal things very dark (cause it's so old)and dark things not at all!
Thread: Why is Renderosity very slow? | Forum: Community Center
smerc, you're too funny (grinning) I also find Renderosity very slow, both from a cable connection and a T1 connection. Seems to me that Renderosity is using Apache servers which are fine, just not quite "beefy" enough for an enterprise sized hosting situation and traffic patterns! Could also be their pipeline is stuffed with all those extra 1's & 0's (smiles)time for a "burstable" solution me thinks! hmm, I suppose it could also be..... I'm just speculating about all the above. Will be interesting to see what we learn are the reasons! The best part though? In spite of the slowness, we all keep coming back :) What a wonderfully determined bunch we are ;)

I'm not a mind reader Jeff, all you needed to do was let me know that. I thought you were giving me the brush off. Still kind of think that. There are a few threads through out the forums that are talking about various mail/filter/bot problems. What was suggested above will most likely solve most of the other problems too. No need to reply to this post at all.

Jeff, have I ps'd you off or have I frightened you. Or, is it possible that none of the above posts interest or apply to you. If any of the surmises in the first sentence are applicable a quick and simple post from you stating such would have been a good thing. Being blatantly ignored is frustrating. I have deliberately tried to keep my posts light, cheerful and as helpful as possible. Now I'm getting down right ticked. Brenda (aka firefly)

(grinning) hmmm, he (Magetek) thinks that renderosity has a "verbosity" allowance just for me!! Geez!

I'm posting this on behalf of magetek. He got signed up but is now having difficulty posting too! He's tried twice and gotten bumped back out of the thread to the forum board. firefly end. Magetek start: I have tried that as well as turning off the junk mail filter settings. Hotmail will still not accept messages from here. Same thing with Excite. Most correctly configured mail servers will not accept mail messages without a To header field as the message is technically incorrect. Luckily (in this case) my ISP doesn't know how to spell the word configure much less implement it so I managed to sign up using one of my accounts from them. Usually messages are not placed in a user's dropbox immediately but go through one or more mail relays first and/or may have further processing done on them. Without the To field there is no way for the relay agent or processing agent to know who the message is destined for. You can test this by telneting to your SMTP server and typing the following: (Replace somedomain and someuser as appropriate) ... start session ... HELO somedomain MAIL FROM: someuser@somedomain RCPT TO: someuser@hotmail.com DATA Test . ... end session ... The above message will not get processed. ... start session ... HELO somedomain MAIL FROM: someuser@somedomain RCPT TO: someuser@hotmail.com DATA To: someuser@hotmail.com From: someuser@somedomain Date: Mon, 15 Apr 2002 12:00:00 -0500 Subject: Test Test . ... end session ... The above message will get processed even with junk mail filters turned on. Additionally using the address ebot@renderosity.com for sending signup links and notices to ones users is asking for trouble. I can see a lot of mail servers and/or email client rules set up to filter out the word 'bot'. I have quite a few filters set up on my server and bot is right near the top of the list. It may be better to use signup@renderosity.com or registration@renderosity.com for example for new users. It's a simple change (one line addition) to the mail script so I don't see what the problem is here. I agree with firefly about the loss of users. Most aren't going to want to change their (already working) email client settings in order to receive email.

Thanks for the offer JeffH, we already got him added by using a different email address. This isn't really about hand-adding people anymore, it's about correcting the renderosity script as noted in the thread! How many people on average sign-up on any given day. Multiply this be at least 2 and you have the figure of potential members. Now, I'm not sure what the math is of those members for making purchases is but to me that is a lot of potential Market Place customers that are also being dismissed by the current ebot mail system. You can see how this snowballs.......... From a marketing standpoint look at how many people are NOT seeing the adds and sponsors. Would'nt it be cool at sponsor renewal time to have doubled the size of viewers to the Bondware, Curious Labs and Worldbuilder branding? What's really sad though is when you stop and think about all the people who weren't able to sign up. They go away with a bad impression of renderosity; lame, elitist or broken..... This is really, really not good. Some of those people could be potential employers, sponsors etc. It might be worthwhile to copy this thread to the rest of the admin for their input or to the person(s) who look after the mail scripting. um, sorry to be your thorn of the day...

Sweets..... hmm, maybe I have some left over easter chocolate.... licking lips... Ok, now the secret is out!! Jeff or Clint, feel free to jump in here and tell us someone is going to be correcting that wayward little mailbot script (big smiles) pretty please??? I wonder how many artworld einsteins are looking to join up and have gotten frustrated and given up instead. That would be too bad :(

Oh, no, this thread has gotten so quiet and doesn't appear to be moving :( I hope it didn't get the director's cut

Gee, sounds like all the free mailers are looking for ways to make money. Hotmail is starting to lock accounts if they exceed 2mb and sends an advert for a larger box if you pay! Anyways, we put the login through a "real" email account and have discovered what the problem is. There actually seems to be two problems. Mail RFC's state there are specific required fields in an email. I believe they are: from, to, date and message ID. At least these are the ones that most mail servers require. Problem #1: the ebot script does not use the "to" field. A lot of mail servers and services require this as unspecified email is the first to get filtered. Problem #2: the word ebot is one word that is filtered hugely from various mail servers, another item filtered out for first line defense against spam. I expect this problem will grow given the trend to filter increasing amounts of spam. An idea worth thinking about would be changing the name ebot@renderosity to signup@renderosity and etc... Also, get the script to add a "to" line. Ok, you can wake up now (big grin)
