Yeah excellent point nomuse, about lighting and shadow.
edit: that's also a good point about more recent Poser releases having more and better clothing. In my experience clothing is generally much harder to draw from memory than human anatomy. (or should I say "render" from memory, since we are talking to a sculptor?)

Thread: Poser Artist for Figure References | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I think a) it's a tall order and b) there isn't enough money in it. If it was otherwise it would've been done already. I think a high degree of simulation would be necessary to accurately model a human. Bones float a bit. Tendons deform skin. Muscles contract and expand and deform skin. Think of all that goes on in just the ribcage in breathing. Anatomists still don't agree on how many muscles there are in the human face! Poser is old tech in a lot of ways. The whole bump mapping/normal mapping thing is still light years away from being properly realized in Poser & Poser content. This suggests to me the obvious, that Poser is a niche app mostly used by hobbyists. Spending a few grand might get you something better. :)

In days of globalization you never know from where your money comes Lol. You never know who's stealing it, either. Why are you defending Brazilian hackers, and Brazil's cyber-crime problem?

Grimtwist, you and I are in the minority of folks whose interest in Poser is actually in line with what it's best at! I use it for reference too. It's a godsend for that. Be advised though, Poser (and presumably DAZ Studio) are only going to give you problematic reference. As far as I can tell Poser solves two problems almost perfectly: Perspective Proportion You have the advantage of being able to always go back and choose another perspective, which is great, and you'll always get accurate figure proportions. What Poser won't do is give you anatomically correct musculature. It also won't give you anatomically precise joints. There are lots of little musculature problems with every figure I've ever used, and they're exacerbated by posing (the more extreme the pose the worse the problem). If you know your anatomy though, and you want to save time on proportion and perspective, then I heartily endorse Poser (Poser 4 is good enough for your purposes btw). I suggest you look into how much computer power you'll need to be happy running Poser. I've yet to have a system that ran it fast enough, which is frustrating.

Ah, okay that makes sense, though I should point out that the morph pack does inject them if you use the red all head morphs INJ.
Thread: Ingenue V and V3 Morphs | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Okay, I reinstalled the head morphs and it seems I was mistaken. There's no folder named "expressions" installed. In fact, judging by these folders and the morphs listed within, there are no expressions morphs. Still, injecting all the morphs at once injects the "non-existent" expression morphs too, and now they're at least working. Thanks again.

Thanks fellas. Sounds like my expression morphs have gone AWOL. I wish I knew where the heck my poser disc was...

edit: I wrote this only after reading the first post, then I read all the other posts about unique naming. Oh, well. :)
While the subject is up, I'd like to add my .02.
Folks, please NAME your files uniquely! I'm referring to readme's and such here - "readme" just doesn't cut it. EVERY product has a readme, not just yours. Please put the name of the product somewhere in the filename (preceding is best imho). This way we don't have to rename your file to make it unique, and we can just dump it where we put such things.
This is a huge pet peeve of mine, and it goes way beyond Poser or even 3D content. File distribution is one of those areas where one person (the producer) can save many people (the consumer) work with virtually no effort. When producers fail to do this, the five seconds it takes to correct the error is multiplied by the number of consumers who downloaded the product.
Similarly, I wish producers would organize their directory structures properly. Take Kozaburo as an example. Here we have a producer who has taken the (probably inordinate) time to give us irreplaceably valuable products for free, and he won't take the time to standardize his directory structures. I just had to reinstall all of his hair recently and I extracted all of his files at once. There were five or so directories where his hair ended up. Five! It may sound like I'm nitpicking here, but I'm not. It's not that I object to the thirty seconds of work required to fix it. What I object to is the idea of hundreds or even thousands of people ALL having to put in thirty seconds of work each to fix it when the producer could have done all of that work in thirty seconds. There's also the principle of the thing; my God man, you put all of that work into those beautiful creations, and you can't name the readmes uniquely, or standardize your directory structure?
Obviously, I don't want to pick on Koz here. I just used his work as an example because it's something just about everyone uses and it fits my peeve to a "t."
